    Hey everyone! Sorry about the weird audio. Just to make sure we were being safe, we had to film in an open-air setting. Because it was raining, we had to go to a local parking garage, hence the weird echoes and noises.
    Hopefully you guys are able to still hear us!

    WOW WOW WOW what great info from start to end men! solid job. I have a 2011sti and live in Alaska so I will be keeping my stock car hight due to heavy snow, and there are as many dirt roads as there are paved, so underbelly clearance is absolutely a must. I will be running new coilers but staying with close to stock alignment and and stance. Now I am armed with the info I need to shop. I am looking at 265/35 18s and 35 offset as well. My question is I have the stock tire pressure transmitter for tire pressure out of my factory rims. Are they all standard sizes? another words, will they fit the new rims or are they manufacturer specific? Thank you for taking the time (-:

    Great informative video. Earned a Sub. I just ordered Option Labs 18x9.5 +35 for my 2020 STi and this came in extremely handy. QQ. I plan on putting Ohlins on in spring/summer. Currently on stock suspension. I understand from the video and reading the posts that either 255/35, 255/40 and 265/35 will work fine on a stock setup with my new wheels. When I put the Ohlins on that will lower the car about 1". Will that still hold true with the aforementioned tire sizes? Our roads are pretty bad here and having a little more sidewall is always beneficial. Leaning towards the 255/40 or 265/35 for that reason...just want to ensure fitment w/o rubbing and going crazy with camber. I have a different HPDE setup, so I'm looking for street use. TIA

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  3 роки тому +2

      Hey that's an awesome plan!
      For that exact wheel setup, with a 1" drop, you could easily run either 255/35 or 265/35. Especially with ohlins that run high spring rates 8k or 10k or higher, the spring travel will be limited compared to stock. If you plan on really slamming it and taking away more of the wheel gap, 255/35 will let the wheel tuck in a bit easier. 265/35 is meatier and might need a fender roll to tuck more. 265/35 would also be a tiny bit more comfortable on bad roads. You could also combat rubbing issues with more camber, but that has effects on handling and performance once you go farther than 4degrees.

    • @bowhun2r
      @bowhun2r 3 роки тому +2

      @@WRXGarage Thank you for the fast response. I'll go with the 265/35 and I do not planning on slamming it... max would be an 1" or less with the Ohlins. I'll enjoy the stock suspension with the new wheel/tire setup until I get time for the suspension. Good info. Thanks and Happy New Year (Gotta be better than 2020...).

      Winter tires really aren't any different for fit. Only difference is you generally want a taller side wall and thinner tread. I.e. 255/40 or 245/45 on 18x9.5 or 235/50 on 17x8.

    What’s up guys, this is a great video and very informative... I just have a quick question and some help. So I have some wheels from my previous car that fortunately got totaled, lucky for me I bought a 2018 STI. The wheels I was running on my previous car where 19x9.5 +22, tires are 245/40/19.. I tried them on my STI and they poked A LOT... I really liked that looked and was thinking about getting the s209 fender flares to fill in that poke. I just don’t know if those tires are going to be rubbing on my stock fenders on a stock suspension with that tire size and Im really thinking of rolling/cutting my fenders as a last resort, what are my options here?... really hope this reaches out to you guys and thanks in advanced

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  3 роки тому +1

      The s209 fender flares are not designed for function!! You'd have to heavily modify them and cut your fenders to make room. Just keep that in mind

    • @darkaceadrian
      @darkaceadrian 3 роки тому

      I’m sorry but I don’t quite understand they’re not design for function? What does that mean? I know subiespeed sells some OLM S209 fender flares that just glue onto the stock fenders and makes the car about 1.7 inches wider... and it doesn’t require cutting the stock fenders

    • @darkaceadrian
      @darkaceadrian 3 роки тому

      I just don’t know if that wheel and tire combo is going to be rubbing on a stock suspension

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  3 роки тому +1

      Fender flares are designed to replace the outer lip of the fender, you're supposed to cut off the oem fender underneath to make room for larger wheels/tires. With these tape on ones, they aren't designed to do that, only bump the fender out visually. Which means adding them without cutting the fender underneath will actually make your wheels fit worse

    Is the bolt pattern on the 2015- >> Subaru really 5x114.3? Cause I have wheels that are for that bolt pattern but when I put the lug nuts on it, it won’t screw all the way. I don’t want to force it or else I may strip the threads. So I just end up putting the stock lugs, while still works.

    Got a ‘20 STI, and currently looking at the enkei rpf1 wheels at 18x9 +38offset. I want somewhere between flush or a negligibly small poke out. I don’t want to increase drag… haha I see the +35 option is popular as well… Prolly go with 255/40/18s. I want a meatier tire. I came from muscle cars and miss the deep dish wheel option… but was wondering what you guys think of this hypothetical set up on a stock STI suspension. Will it rub? I don’t want to roll anything, i dont want any spacers or what nots. If I get coil overs later, set at 1/2-1in lower, will my decision still be optimum? I could shoot for the 9.5in width, or the smaller 245s, but feel 255/40s would counter the smaller diameter wheel and potentially even give me a taller tire.

      Poke will depend more on the wheel offset than the tire size. 18x9.5 +35 or +38 is the perfect amount of poke. As for tire size on that wheel, 255/35 or 265/35 are both good options.

    Could you guys please recommend the most aggressive as ‘poke-like’ as possible setup for a stock 2016 wrx? Im looking at getting some rays te37 sl’s and can only find them offered in 18x9.5 +22. They dont seem to offer +35 offset in the black editions for some reason… What tyres would you recommend running on these?

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  2 роки тому

      18x9.5 +22 is more agressive than +35. If that's what you're looking for, that's the most agressive you could possibly run in my opinion. Even with that, you'll likely rub in the rears with stock suspension because it's soft. As for tires, 255/35 is probably your best option

    • @mahjong234
      @mahjong234 2 роки тому

      @@WRXGarage ahh for some reason i thought the +22's were a less aggresive option... If I wanted the +22's to work then what would be the least modified setup that i'd have to run (i.e. what kind of suspension upgrades would you recommend) ? Could I get lower profile tyres say 245's? Would that potentially negate the possibility of rubbing? Sorry in advance if all of this sounds pretty uninformed... For context i'm a bit of an airhead when it comes to car stuff, having said that, I enjoy modifying my car lol, current modifications are process west intercooler, CAI, cobb access port tuned and a bunch of other random stuff done to the car. However i've not touched my suspension and am only now looking to upgrade my wheels but it's proving to be more of a headache than I expected. Offset is the distance from the center of the wheel to the back of the wheels hub face. The lower the number, the closer the hub face is to the center of the wheel, which means the face of the wheel sticks out. You'd probably have to camber the crap out of +22 with a 9.5" wheel to not rub. The stock suspension is too soft to run agressive setups

    I came here hoping for a specific answer but still didn’t find it. I’m only having RCE Yellow lowering springs installed over the factory WRX springs. But I hear mixed reviews whether 265/35 will rub on 18x9.5+38 wedsports rims. I don’t wanna roll my fenders, I love the slimmer sidewall look but I also want my wheel protected from chips. I will be tracking it eventually so the tires can’t be stretched either. Any answers on whether 265 will fit without issues?

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  Рік тому +2

      This is a good question... The lowering springs will lower your car a little less than 1 inch (22mm).. with 265 tires and those spec of wheels I'd guess you might have some rubbing issues in the rear, unless you add lower control arms for a little bit more camber in the rear. If you run 255/35 instead I bet you'd be fine. If you want the 265s, either roll your fenders a tiny bit or add more camber to the rears with LCAs

      Sounds to me like your math is a bit off.. the difference in sidewall height between 245/35 and 285/35 is massive. Remember that "35" sidewall is a ratio not a measurement. Also, 245/35 is going to be very very stretched on an 18x9.5 wheel. Unless you're talking about a staggered wheel setup too..
      From my understanding, staggered setups are basically only for Subarus that do the quarter mile. for a street car, and even most track cars, you don't need to run tires wider than 275 at the absolute maximum, some say 265 is the max.

      Depends on the wheel size! Assuming 9.5" wheels, the 265/35 will just have a bit more grip, but also have a taller sidewall so will actually be more comfortable on the road. 255/35 will technically have less sidewall flex when hard cornering so there's a bit of tradeoff.

      Depends on wheel width, suspension, tires, etc. Stock suspension? Rolles fenders? Max camber you'd like to run?

      @@WRXGarage looking to get rpf1 18x9.5 maybe Im lowered on bc coilovers and have rear camber adjustments but I would like to keep the camber stock and not roll fenders

      You'd probably be best off with +35 at the most aggressive. You could possibly pull off +22 but you'd have to stretch the tires and camber around 4 degrees without rolling the fenders!

      @@WRXGarage ok I think I’ma go with 18x9.5 +35 all around and for tires what size would you recommend with this wheel , I don’t want rubber bands as tire or have huge sidewalls either

      255/35 is usually the best option for 9.5" wheels! You could also go with 255/40 for a thicker sidewall or 265/35 for a bulkier tire shoulder.
