- On-Sighting: You don't know anything about the route other than the grade, if you lunge for that hold, will you stick it, will you fall, or is it even a hold at all, what could be better than that. This video's emphasis is on On-Sighting, but starts with a caving trip as well, and shows the first 2 weeks of our 3rd month of Chasing Vertical.
Enjoy, subscribe if you aren't already and I post every few days of Instagram and Facebook under @matheson_brown (instagram) and Chasing Vertical with Matheson Brown (facebook) so check those out if you haven't already.
Also we are always looking at potential 3rd members so if you are interested in joining us feel free to send me a message on Instagram or Facebook

You're too kind. Also which one of you is it that manages the channel now btw?
@@MathesonBrown Allan ya skuzz
I enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, we will try :D
Great video as usual Matheson :)
Thanks a bunch Chris, glad you liked it
You're doing great! By the way, how long are the bolts that are in the rock? What kind of process to secure them in the rock? If you ever have time to discuss some of the technical points of how you climb, what you do with the rope, etc., that'd be really interesting. Stay safe!
Walking Writer most of the ones in the video look like expansion bolts, the most modern technique is a sort of rock cement/glue. Length can vary but around 4 inches
@@sil8127 Hey, thanks for the info! I know nothing about rock climbing and was following the channel after seeing his AT post a while back. Was curious about what's holding you climbers up there. Only four inches? I'll stick to walking! :-D
Yea Simon is right they are expansion bolts, and to be honest its hard to know how long they have been left in the rock. Sometimes routes get re-bolted if they old ones are very very old, but for the most part they stay in there for a really long while. Its not often that they come out, but it is known to happen on the odd occasion.
As for the rope ones you get to the top, you clip into a few more bolts, then lower back down. At the bottom you untie and then pull the rope back through and you are ready to go again. I might even do a video about the basics of Outdoor rock climbing some time.
Hey dude if you are going to post videos about climbing please use some sort of backup while abseiling. There have been far to many injuries and death because of people not using back ups, prusics is preferable. Cheers.
Hey man, very fair comment. One thing, almost all of the shots where somebody is lowering, we have somebody on fireman’s belay. But sometimes we do have neither and I appreciate you saying something, I’ll be more onto it.
Cheers
Wreckless?😂
Is that not a word? hahaha
