We started downloading baby sounds to play on and off during the day so the dogs could get used to the sounds. I was worried they would stress when the baby cried. Not sure if it was the reason but they were totally unbothered by the commotion. My husband also brought home baby blankets with her smell on them before we came home from the hospital so they could recognize her smell. Amazing how well they adapted really
I know this might sound like an odd thing to say, but I can't imagine how proud your parents must be of both of you for having created such an amazing life together, business together, partnership together, and are now able to see all of the rewards for your hard work and dedication.. I cannot wait to see how the next chapter unfolds for you as a family.❤
My babies both slept through loud noises and dogs barking. My sister told me to not be quiet so they don't have to need it to be quiet to go to sleep. My dog was my first baby and when we brought my son home my dog just smelled him and slept right beside him💜. Such a beautiful friendship. I'm so excited for you all!!
I’m an overthinker too! Even on my 3rd pregnancy I still stress out lol but with the hot and cold, my grandma taught me to always feel their feet. If they’re feet are nice and warm baby is good, if they’re cold add another layer, if they’re sweaty take off a layer. It really works! Hope that helps 😘 I already know you’re going to be an amazing mum 💙
You would be surprised how much you just instinctively pick up on when you have your baby! You’re going to be fine ❤️ can’t wait to see you as a mumma 🥰
Tip for clothing layering - However many layers you have on + 1. Rascal & friends nappies are great (if you don't like Huggies) we use cloth now but R&F were the only ones that didn't give my boy a rash.
I am a mum of 3. I have a few tips… All ways dress baby in natural fabrics. So like wool muslin cotton, merino etc. Make sure blankets are natural aswell. Babies can not regulate there temp like adults. Never wrap baby in fleece or mink i know the blankets look nice but always go natural trust me. Clothes! Dont over do it for clothes, babies grow sooooo fast so fast. You will find you wont use everything you buy. Stock up on nappies and wipes. Its nice to have everything on hand! Never go for gold formulas…gold is really rich if you find baby spews alot its generally the type of formula your buying! I was always told a singlet, then on top a long sleeve then a cardigan on top of that and a swaddle/wrap! Newborns like to be secure thats how they are in the womb. The nurses at the hospital will give you tips. They will teach you how to wrap a baby, But because you are a new mum the nurses can be pretty full on! I know your cutie doggys are your babies! But trust me dogs are still dogs. Your dogs need to know that the baby is above them when it comes to hierarchy. Dogs will get jelous! Alot of your time will go into baby. Dogs need to know where they sit in the family. I know your going natural birth wise. I was supposed to aswell but i had an emergency csection. Make sure your midwife prepares you for every scenario! Thats all i can think of so far i know theres more stuff! My youngest is 2 it feels like its been a life time since i had a newborn lol You guys are going to be great parents! All the best x
Tip for in Labour? 1. Listen to your body. She knows what she’s doing. 2. Listen to your midwife she also knows what she’s doing 😂 You and Hamish are probably bursting at the seams with Love right now… That feeling only intensifies when babe is born. I’m so excited for you both. Congratulations 💕
The hydrogel breast discs were a life saver!! Pop them in the fridge closer to your due date for when you get home from hospital ☺️ that and lanolin cream! Take the cream to hospital!!
Gaia baby powder is the best!! definitely safe for use on baby. Sudocream is used by most and really good for nappy rash, but baby powder is good for all other nappies.
Buy the portable spectra hospital grade electric pump- you won't regret it! Even comes with a cup holder (possibly its a bottle holder, but i put my drinks in it haha). And you can decorate it with stickers to make it cute. And join some pumping groups on facebook as they're a wealth of knowledge and support. My biggest learning was getting the right size cups for my pump, as they make a huge difference in comfort while using the pump, as well as effectiveness of milk extraction.
My advice is get a manual pump! It’s so much easier than an electric pump and you get way more milk out! I have an electric pump and it was so much work to get it out, hook it up and sit and pump, so I got a manual and never looked back! Just throwing that out there 🙂
I’ve been following for years and it’s so exciting to watch your family growing! I’m also a first time mom, it’s such an exciting time! 🥰 If I could recommend anything for new moms it would be to take a course or find more information on proper car seat safety! I was absolutely shocked to learn how most aftermarket car seat products and seat protectors are unsafe for use, and how common it is to have an improper installation! Car seat safety was a big stress for me and I felt much more confident after doing my own research…one less thing for me to have anxiety about 😅 Wishing you, Hamish and babe the best! Thank you for always sharing ❤️
Definitely recommend the silverets from baby love!! They are just little silver nip covers that help heal from the cracks and damage in the beginning. My midwife told me about them and a few friends so decided to get some and they worked so well!!! Also please be careful adding extras to car seats ❤️
Hi, any medela electric pumps are good. Haakaa hand pumps also great for getting let down going or to use on the side you're not feeding from. for bottles Dr Brown are really good! With formulas it can be really overwhelming all the different options and benefits etc. best thing is just to go for a number 1. Someone else mentioned but go for one more layer of clothing than you, natural breathable fibers and you can feel the back of neck/shoulder blade area for a quick temp check. All tips and tricks from a neonatal nurse ☺️
I’ve been watching shan since 2013 when I first subscribed to her and I’m still here and she is pregnant with her first child and IM HERE FOR IT! Congratulations once again to you and Hamish on baby boy💙💙😍 xo
I borrowed an electric pump from the hospital but I'm pretty sure it was the Medela brand I had been told was a good brand to go with. Bottles are handy to have even if breast feeding doesn't go well because you can still pump and use the bottle. It doesn't mean you have to go straight to formula. I did everything with my two kids, breast fed for as long as I could, pumped for awhile and then formula fed. Fed is best :) The Haaka brand is really good too, I used the manual pump for when I was feeding on one side and had the pump on the other side, like not attached but underneath to catch any milk that leaked out while I fed my daughter on the other side, if that makes sense. For layering for sure get wool layers so either knitted stuff that you put over top of a bodysuit or get some merino bodysuits :)
Was also told as a guide baby usually has one more layer than you have on, but also to touch either their back or chest to feel their temperature because babies circulation isn’t as good as ours their hands and feet are always colder than the rest of their body! Also random but one thing I loved using for my new born was a muka pito tie for the umbilical cord, ends up drying it way quicker than the plastic clips so falls off before it gets really smelly. They’re a Maori practice and are made of harakeke, they work really well, google them 😊
Milkbar pump is awesome! It is portable which comes in handy not having to be plugged in all the time and comes with a card to measure for the correct flange size 🥰
Heyyy Shaan just a suggestion, u should do a connecting door to the beauty room from your office! Or a secret door inside the Cupboard maybe? For easy access u know.. Hehe would be nice though! Like narnia😜
Thanks for all the updates! I'm a mom of 5 and my 1st would wake up if a pin dropped! Then a friend told me to play a lot of loud music when the baby's a infant that way they're used to the sounds and won't wake up so easily.... sure enough, worked like a charm with the others!
With postnatal care, I used tena pants, although period undies would probably be similar and I went through an obscene amount of pads for the first couple of weeks. I also got pretty bad hair loss after my last 2 so have a little look into that if that’s something you may worry about. And nesting was my absolute favourite thing about pregnancy! I repacked baby’s hospital bag at least once a week 💖
Thanks for all the updates! It’s so lively if you to share ❤️ We adore you and see so excited for y’all’s journey! I’ve been watching you almost since day on your beauty channel! A long time ❤️
Oh my goodness, I feel like it was just yesterday I was watching your wedding video 🥺 I am so excited to be apart of your new journey of both Hamish and you being parents ❤️ I feel like I have been waiting my whole life for this moment 🤣 (long time follower, like 2015-16) My advice to you Shan is to take everyone else’s advice with a grain of salt unless you have asked for it, you will have your own mother’s intuition and you will know what’s right/what will work for your baby, family and life x As for doggies barking, my little one got use to my dog barking even the vacuum being on xx
I’m a Nicu nurse in WGN Nz heads up milk bar pumps are super strong which isn’t for your nips most enjoy medela pump or unimom double. Also for layering golden rule is always layer your baby 1 more layer than you ie If you have a long sleeve top and a jumper he needs a singlet long sleeve outfit and woollens. Think he’s due in winter so invest in lots of merino and no fleece that makes babies sweat because they can’t regulate there own temp very well. I see so many babies underdressed in the winter😬
I was always told we weren’t allowed anything under medium rare. also you ll probably fill that bin super quickly with clothes. I go through so many clothes in a day with my daughter. As for dressing them always add one more layer than what you have for yourself. Baby will get used to their surroundings. I don’t use powder just bum cream.
Congratulations shan and Hamish! I used the madela pump both of my pregnancies and it worked perfectly both times. Would definitely recommend. Enjoy the journey. ❤️
I think it's personal preference with baby powder. I didn't use it but I know people who did. Usually you add an extra layer to baby compared to what you wear. My winter baby would wear a singlet, onesie and a knitted vest for when we were at home chilling or a knitted cardi. But you'll be surprised on the natural mama instincts that'll kick in 🥰
Thanks for the update Shan! Always happy to see your bright face. 💜 P.S. Hamish going "marriage is soooo different to not being married" had me in giggles. My partner and I have the exact same sentiment!
I used sudocrem or other barrier creams rather than the powder. It used to be the thing to do and I'm not really sure about the reasons why but I was recommended just to use a bit of barrier cream. And keeping them warm/cool is super stressful but just layer them up that way you can take off bits and pieces if they get too warm. The advice of adding an extra layer than what you are wearing is pretty good in general, but I found my girl runs a bit hot like me so more often than not she's wearing the same layers as me. You'll just get used to what they need over time.
We didn't really enjoy huggies nappies, several times baby would leak through also on two occasions when i opened the nappies they had a very strong chemically smell. See how you go, you may like them but they didnt work for us
Totally almost spat out my drink at your ‘RIP my vagina’ comment! STM here and due with bubs #2 in 6 weeks! I’m so excited for you guys - being parents is the best!!!!
Hey Shan, re dressing baby. Rule of thumb is one more layer than you. If unsure then it is safest to underdress than overdress, if baby needs another layer they will wake up but if baby overheats that's dangerous. Feel inbetween baby's shoulder blades or chest if you think they are too hot. Merino singlets and onesies are great, if baby did sweat it will wick away the moisture so they do not get a cold chill from it. You take into account what you dress them in, thickness of swaddles and temperature of room ect. If baby needs warming up, strip baby to nappy and place on your bare chest with blankets over. Skin to skin is quickest way to warm baby.
House is looking awesome! Very exciting, we moved into our new build just before Christmas 😊 as far as electric pumps go, check out the Milkbar one its so good!
I swear it feels like you just got married! How has it already been a year?! You’re absolutely glowing! I’m so happy for your new adventures! It’s going to turn out beautiful!
Congrats mummy. You defs remind me of myself when i was pregs with my first, i over prepared because i had no idea what i was in for, knew nothing about babies and would worry if i would be a good mum but let me tell ya Shan, it will all come so natural. You were made for this, literally lol you will become such a pro without any of those extra things you have. All you need is love and your good to go. Btw, currently carrying my third and I STILL don’t know what i’m doing lol so don’t worry too much and honestly enjoy it as much as you can!! Your life will change and you’ll be so much more relaxed than you ever were before 😉😉👌🏻 All the best Shannon & Hamish ☺️☺️ xxo
So sorry to hear about your dog , I have a Maltese x toy poodle she is 5 At 2year 9months we found out she had bladder stones , she has since had 2 surgery’s as they come back hers are called struvite we now give her medication twice daily to avoid more surgery’s such a long journey , I live in Perth Western Australia , Can I ask what your vets plan is with your dog
the plan is a change in diet - hes on a more expensive food now haha that helps the PH levels and should shop more from forming. they also sent away the stones to a place in the USA to examine and plan from there
@@shaaanxovlogs Yes that is what my vet did however my doggy is a rare one n was harder to keep under control and unfortunately took 3 different vets to figure out , now on special food plus tablet twice daily , Hoping all goes well with your dog and if you have any questions ask away I wish I had someone when I was going through it with my dog as it was a long 2 years n quite expensive just to get to we’re we are today , Also massive congrats on Baby Boy 💙
Girl I thought our baby laundry basket was huge at first but let me tell you…that thing is never empty 😅 babies go through lots of clothes, blankets, burp cloths, etc. etc…😅 LOVE your vlogs!
My little girl didn't flinch once through our dogs barking. My partner thought she may have been deaf but I reassured him that it was just because she was used to hearing it in the womb!
I recommend holding off until baby is here, you may be a natural, have a good flow and the Haaka or hand expressing may be enough. But if that's not the case invest in a good pump. I personally had a Mandela electric pump it was worth money and saved my hands😅 Also, "Dont be too hard on yourself, not everyone gets it" you're doing an amazing job bringing a beautiful baby into the world. Good Luck with Labour, You got this😉
Hey Shannon, you should check in to a baby mattress called the Newton Baby Mattress. It’s made out of material that’s breathable. In case your baby roll’s over in the night. It’s on the pricier side but worth it for your peace of mind. They have a website just not sure they ship to New Zealand. 😊
Electric pump all the way if not breastfeeding. I had my sons room done at 4 months and oh I’m glad I did. Awe the day I had my son I was measuring 21 weeks lol.
Hot tip! Make his bed like this - mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet.. Rule of thumb with dressing bub, one layer more than you. Boys tend to leak more out of the nappy (even when their lil fella is pointing down!). Also middle of the nights spews
Not me having a 2 yo and a 3 month old wanting another baby cos I miss how exciting it is being pregnant the nestinggg 😂😂 I would have loved this vid when I was hapu uggh organisation on fleek 💯💯🔥 also you can make a postpartum healing spray for ol Mere instead of spending heaps on them online I used witch hazel, water and a couple drops of lavender and it was so good 😊
Hi. So excited for your growing family! Your baby boy will be sooo adorable I am sure. I watch a vlogger by the name of Tara Henderson and she has four children (all very little). She is probably the most organized person I have ever seen. She definitely has videos of all the needed baby items and honestly she has it all down to a science. I recommend you check her out but especially earlier vlogs about baby products. Hugs Diana
My boys 6 months and I always worry about dressing him, you can generally tell if they're hot or cold by feeling their chest or back but theres also a really good image online recommends what to dress baby in depending on the temperature
If you dress your baby and you feel his back or chest ...if he's hot take off a layer if he's feeling cold put on a layer X that's how I used to do it X so excited for your journey being a family and a mum is the best x
I haven’t been following the house journey every episode so maybe I’m being stupid asking. But how come they are doing the kitchen and living room upstairs? X
Shannon, you are positively glowing. How are you feeling. This is dixie from texas, hamish is going to have a little man running around. You have to post vlogs with the baby and of the baby.
My doctor said that your babies temperature runs like mamas body so if youre hot the baby is probably hot and if you’re cold baby is probably cold, also their cheeks get a tint of pink when they are hot but their hands and feet are always cold even if they are comfy , my doctor said fleece is a no go unless it’s super cold like snow because they can easily over heat
Hi shan, your baby is going to come out of you, so if you're hot, he's hot. If you're cold he will be cold. Go off how you feel ❤️ he is of you, after all 🥰 you're going to be such a great mum, it will definitely come naturally 😊
Aw your little man is going to be so loved! I hope all goes well for you 🥰 I always feel awkward giving advice as you may find there will be a never ending string of unsolicited advice about parenting🙄 but if your asking for recommendations, I found the “Milkbar Advanced Flow Double Electric Breast Pump (hospital grade)” was really good especially when working from home when used with their pumping bra as it meant you could have hands free, might be good for when you’re editing videos and what not 🥰 General rule of thumb for dressing babies in NZ (I too stressed about if my son was too hot/cold before he arrived) is to dress them in one layer more than you are wearing. Merino wool is a great breathable and temperature regulating fabric, as well as cotton fabrics too. Also for great kiwi maternity/breastfeeding clothing (targeted more for active wear, not that it needs to be used as active wear 😬) check out Cadenshae. Material feels lovely, great support in bras & pants, and better yet they have baby body suits which are so cute to match with your mini!
Best advice i was given when I had kids was to always have an extra layer on baby than you do! Also none of us know wtf we're doing first time round so you're not on your own 😂
We started downloading baby sounds to play on and off during the day so the dogs could get used to the sounds. I was worried they would stress when the baby cried. Not sure if it was the reason but they were totally unbothered by the commotion. My husband also brought home baby blankets with her smell on them before we came home from the hospital so they could recognize her smell. Amazing how well they adapted really

Shannon was the first makeup UA-camr I ever watched I remember being 13 and watching all her nyx lip swatches 😭😍💕 soooo happy to see this !!!!
What timing! Yay, so happy to see these updates, and 1 year, time flies😂 You guys were made for each other couldn't imagine you apart!🥰

Swear by R&F for my twinnies
I am a mum of 3. I have a few tips…
All ways dress baby in natural fabrics.

Thats all i can think of so far i know theres more stuff! My youngest is 2 it feels like its been a life time since i had a newborn lol
You guys are going to be great parents! All the best x
Tip for in Labour? 1. Listen to your body. She knows what she’s doing. 2. Listen to your midwife she also knows what she’s doing 😂
You and Hamish are probably bursting at the seams with Love right now… That feeling only intensifies when babe is born.
I’m so excited for you both. Congratulations 💕
Always exciting watching you organise and prepare for your new life and baby, especially with all the updates you give us as well, not a boring vlog!
YES to the baby outfit vlog! You look absolutely glowing 🤍🦋

Omg zeus is the CUTEST dog. I am obsessed with his ears 😍😭😍😭😍
Your vlogs are my FAVE!!! Love keeping up with what’s going on in your beautiful life!
You have that pregnancy glow 😍! So excited to see how you decorate your house etc once it’s built 😍❣️
Why so much can’t wait for more blogs and more baby can’t talk so excited for you guys
Your baby bump is soooo beautiful Shannon! 💚 I’m loving how organised you are already! Such a magical time!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😘
I can feel your excitement. It’s super cute xx
Buy the portable spectra hospital grade electric pump- you won't regret it! Even comes with a cup holder (possibly its a bottle holder, but i put my drinks in it haha). House is amazing and massive ! Well done on being able to achieve so much so young :)
Your skin is so perfect at the moment too beautiful as always ♡
You should get the book what to expect when you’re expecting. Love the organization you do.
You are going to be the most amazing Mother, you just are such a beautiful soul. Beautiful inside and out 💕✨
Baby Powder is amazing for getting wet sand off there skin! Its pretty much all i use it for. Beach bag essential
Happy Anniversary! Love seeing the house progress 🙌
The elvie pump is amazing. You can pump while doing other things since it is cordless !!! So convenient
I’ve been watching shan since 2013 when I first subscribed to her and I’m still here and she is pregnant with her first child and IM HERE FOR IT! Congratulations once again to you and Hamish on baby boy💙💙😍 xo
First time in so long that I was asleep when you posted 😭 Least I have a new video to watch as I get ready for uni!

I never needed powder and it can cause respiratory issues. Also, for layering, just go one layer up from what you would wear.

My advice to you Shan is to take everyone else’s advice with a grain of salt unless you have asked for it, you will have your own mother’s intuition and you will know what’s right/what will work for your baby, family and life x
As for doggies barking, my little one got use to my dog barking even the vacuum being on xx

See how you go, you may like them but they didnt work for us
I really recommend the adult diapers, they work so well after birth!! 🥰🥰
Congratulations on your pregnancy.
Totally almost spat out my drink at your ‘RIP my vagina’ comment! STM here and due with bubs #2 in 6 weeks! I’m so excited for you guys - being parents is the best!!!!
Pelvic floor exercises are your best friend!!
Shan asking Ham to film how tall the house is compared to her is ADORABLE.
House is looking awesome! Very exciting, we moved into our new build just before Christmas 😊 as far as electric pumps go, check out the Milkbar one its so good!
i remember when your shoes were in that shelving!
Omg!!!! I’ve been off UA-cam for awhile…. Congrats to you mama!!!!!
Your life will change and you’ll be so much more relaxed than you ever were before 😉😉👌🏻
All the best Shannon & Hamish ☺️☺️ xxo
You look so gorgeous Shaan😍💗
My little girl didn't flinch once through our dogs barking. My partner thought she may have been deaf but I reassured him that it was just because she was used to hearing it in the womb!
I recommend holding off until baby is here, you may be a natural, have a good flow and the Haaka or hand expressing may be enough.
But if that's not the case invest in a good pump. I personally had a Mandela electric pump it was worth money and saved my hands😅
Also, "Dont be too hard on yourself, not everyone gets it" you're doing an amazing job bringing a beautiful baby into the world.
Mattress protector on your bed too! Waters breaking (smells like sperm and it's like straw coloured. it's nasty) and leaky boob stains 🤣
Not me having a 2 yo and a 3 month old wanting another baby cos I miss how exciting it is being pregnant the nestinggg 😂😂 I would have loved this vid when I was hapu uggh organisation on fleek 💯💯🔥 also you can make a postpartum healing spray for ol Mere instead of spending heaps on them online I used witch hazel, water and a couple drops of lavender and it was so good 😊
Aww girl u will know by just knowing, same like how we know what cry means what lol. It's crazy how our brains change and adapt to motherhood
Hugs
Diana
My boys 6 months and I always worry about dressing him, you can generally tell if they're hot or cold by feeling their chest or back but theres also a really good image online recommends what to dress baby in depending on the temperature
Was always told when I had my son, whatever you're wearing add an extra layer to baby 🥰
Spectra breast pump, they have hospital grade ones which is soooo good! Highly recommend 👏
Milkbar electric breast pumps are awesome! Best one I’ve tried.
Where is your white dress from? I am due 7 June and it looks like such a comfy dress! 😍
Where did you buy your nappy bag and baby coat hangers ?
How are you guys going with the whole gib shortage in nz atm. We need some just to do our garage ceiling and couldn’t get any
Where did you get the drawer organisers from? They fit perfectly!
Those hydrogel breast pads are an absolute life saver for the first few weeks!
Oh shyatt oh shyatt! This is going to fast lol I blinked and boom he’s here 🤯 why am I nervous? I have my own 😂
Hi shan, your baby is going to come out of you, so if you're hot, he's hot. If you're cold he will be cold. Go off how you feel ❤️ he is of you, after all 🥰 you're going to be such a great mum, it will definitely come naturally 😊
Hi! I’m from the US so maybe I’m not familiar with what you were saying, but at the end where did you say you got those baby items??
Aw your little man is going to be so loved! I hope all goes well for you 🥰
I always feel awkward giving advice as you may find there will be a never ending string of unsolicited advice about parenting🙄 but if your asking for recommendations, I found the “Milkbar Advanced Flow Double Electric Breast Pump (hospital grade)” was really good especially when working from home when used with their pumping bra as it meant you could have hands free, might be good for when you’re editing videos and what not 🥰
General rule of thumb for dressing babies in NZ (I too stressed about if my son was too hot/cold before he arrived) is to dress them in one layer more than you are wearing.
Where did you get the storage boxes from inside the drawers? 🥰
Congratulations mama!!🥰🥰
Best advice i was given when I had kids was to always have an extra layer on baby than you do! Also none of us know wtf we're doing first time round so you're not on your own 😂
That’s right! I remember that rule of thumb. Also just take into account the seasons.
Yes this is also what plunket will tell you 😊
