I agree with you 100%! I got a traditional career at an early age but I worked for a year and went travelling- I worked in other fields and I don't have any regrets. I do plan to retire at age 50. As a mother, I will not pressure my children to study traditional careers. I want them to enjoy and have a balanced life. My love, this life is too short and so many of my friends in their 30's and 40's are becoming ill due to their 9-5. Once again, thank you very much! Keep up the good work!
Love 💕 this video! Everyone don’t have to go to school and sit in the office especially abroad! Any job you use your hands to do pays way more than sitting behind the desk in certain fields but our people look down on such jobs.. I see the Latino community cashing out daily cos that’s one thing they are good at! I have an Uncle here in the states who works for the city as a plumber.. has his own private practice and makes good money!
As a professionally trained Chef, i currently work in the catering department in 1 of the biggest NHS Trust, but I am doing it cause i just came and looking to start my own soon. The issue is there are many things i can do in the industry that am still confused which to focus on. Eg, i can make wedding cakes, cook both continental and local meals, can make canapés, desserts, a bit of decoration, even crochet and can sew too.😂😂😂. Am that handy but have done more cakes and catering. Hoping to get a balance so i can fly.
“I have been following your videos from the first one and really appreciate everything you’ve shared. I’ve never liked 9-to-5 jobs, which is why I ran my own perfume business in Nigeria instead of working for someone else. Since moving to Canada, finding a job has been challenging because I don’t have experience in any professional career. However, I’m working on a business idea while also upskilling myself.
So true! Especially as an immigrant, the pressure and responsibilities are huge. You often end up choosing based on the quickest qualifications or the money…if you’re lucky enough to avoid the career your parents chose for you 🤣
The trouble with being a builder is retirement… you can’t move around as quickly / energetic as when you were younger. I’d be curious as to your comments about this vs for example using your accounting skills / chartered surveyor skills etc… On the flipside, one could say that while you have done those jobs that require you to exert physical acumen, that, over a period of time you potentially have accumulated enough financial strength to have various investments that could possibly fund your retirement, otherwise the educated ones may find that they can thrive better in retirement because of the expertise, experience, knowledge and culture that they have amassed during all the time that they did corporate work. Very curious to hear your comment about this.
A builder who invests wisely (property+SIPP) can retire well in their 50s. Provided they have the knowledge about personal finance and long term planning.
My first degree, i did because of pressure. 💁🏿💁🏿 I wanted something totally different aligning with what i was good at. My father said no and disn't even speak to me for weeks. Right now, i don't work in that field and he despises my job. However, the job he despises bring me more money than his. Oh and he doesn't hesitate to ask me for money. 🙄🙄 Our people look down on jobs that essential to society just coz you don't need a degree. Apprenticeships have got alot of my white friends and their families so far!!!
Do we want to make a living or want status or rank because of the level of my education? If without higher education I can make a living, be independent and be able to give to those in need here and there when I can then I don't need it

Love to hear this! Flexibility shows strength and resilience
Just because our African parents want the best for us, doesn’t mean that their advice is suitable for our lives.
Absolutely 💯
