You forgot one thing to take in account. Your operative system and the background services and such on your system don't leave a clean 2 GB RAM, so even if GTA 4 requirements are around 1.5 GB of RAM, it won't have that due to windows, and you can clearly see the bottleneck already from GTA SA
This is an interesting comparison, but in my opinion, with the mention of the requirements for GTA IV, you are missing one relatively important detail: the operating system. It seems that the requirements for the game are also actually nested with the requirements for the actual operating system. I had no performance problems in San Andreas on a computer with a 1GHz Celeron processor and 1GB DDR1 RAM that was running XP (i.e. a very mediocre system for the San Andreas era)... but they suddenly appeared when I later tried to run SA on a Samsung netbook (quad-core 1GHz processor) with 2GB RAM running Windows 7 (32-bit), although in theory it was a much more powerful computer, on which performance problems with the old game simply should not have arisen. ...So I find the lags when launching GTA IV quite natural: although you meet the recommendations regarding the required amount of RAM, your OS can take up much more memory than it was supposed by the developers at the time of release of the game.

I have played GTA 4 on 2GB of ram. It works fine for the most part. The big thing I think is the version of windows and whats running. My spare machine is a high end Windows XP machine. Its 100% doable but I think we have to remember at the time they most likely were using XP machines with some Vista sprinkled in at release. XP was very dominant in 2008 in terms of marketshare.

GTA IV in general is a pretty clunky game to run no matter how beefy your pc is. It'll always run like shit, its almost impossible to get smooth gameplay without modding it. GTA V runs way better than IV, despite being twice in size. The only reason why I still play IV is because of its amazing story and characters.
I was using this pc spec untill 2020: i3-2100 3gb ddr3 1033 mhz ram (1gb + 2gb) Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 (1gb) 180 gb 7200rpm hdd It was painful, but GTA4 was actually playable on medium settings at 30-40 fps. Also couldn't even run more modern games, such as GTA 5, as my GPU lacked DirectX 11 support. There is a list of some games that I played on that system: Crysis 1 Crysis 2 All Assassin's Creed games till 4 (Black Flag) GTA 4 Skyrim Far Cry 2 Far Cry 3 Bioshock Fear Euro Truck Simulator The Forest Dead Space NFS Pro Street Race driver GRID CSGO (until 2019, after that it was unplayable) Mirror's Edge Battlefield 3 And many more
Can you include GTA 1, London and 2 in a future video. They’ll probably run fast on 2 GB of RAM just like GTA 5 running on 32 GB since they came out in 1997 and 1998 with mostly 2D sprites.
I used to play GTA V with 4 GB RAM and at around 15-20 FPS :) But now I'm getting over 120+ FPS and finally I can play heist missions with my friends :D
My first computer in summer of 2001 or when I was 9 years of age was a 750 Mhz Pentium 3 with Windows 2000 and had 256 mb ram, a Nvidia GeForce MX 400 64 mb video ram graphics card, Direct X 9 and a DVD drive. It could play GTA 3 (20-24 fps average) and could surprisingly but barely play GTA Vice City (12-15 fps average) and this was on lowest settings. I played these games in early 2004 along with MGS2 (also barely played on that computer [12-15 fps average and lowest settings], when I was 12 thanks to my cousin. It could not play GTA San Andreas though. Those were still fun times playing these games.
@@haruokumura2977 --- True that GTA Vice City is more optimized than GTA 3. But, GTA Vice City techically requires an 800 Mhz Pentium 3 processor or better while GTA 3 requires a 450 Mhz Pentium 2 or 3 or better. Also GTA 3 requires 96 mb ram while GTA Vice City requires 128 mb RAM. Also, for GTA 3 you need at least 16 mb video ram and 32 mb video RAM for GTA Vice City. Yes, GTA Vice City was much more optimized for PC than GTA 3 is. But, my former processor was a bit terrible for both GTA 3 and GTA Vice City.
First PC I had was got 2 GB ram in it (2010). Then I have increased it to 3 GB. A few years laters to play some games with my brother we bought a Laptop which has 4 GB ram in it (2019-2020). A 2 years later my PC was just died. Then I continued with the laptop. And now, we got a new PC that is has 16 GB ram.. (2023)
I had a PC with 524 Mb of RAM for over than 5 years 2013-2019 Changed with a kind of newer One in 2020-2021 that Just had over 2 GB and now a good One with 16
The reason why GTA 4 didn't run well despite it required 1.8gb of ram is because of the processes you were running and heck even later windows versions eat alot of the ram which makes it difficult for the game to take a good part of the 2gb of ram and hence there's a reason why games run so well on 512mb ram on consoles but can barely do well with 4gb ram.
Exactly. Also, GTA 4 would've been much better if he didn't use screen recorder apps, because these thing affect the game fps. Instead, he should record the gameplay by connecting HDMI to other computer (capture card required)
my first pc in 2004(back when i was just born) had 128MB ram(installed one more 128MB) and first laptop in 2008(just the time schooling started) had 2gb ram which was upgraded to 4gb ,4 years later
My first PC had 4MiB of RAM (386 CPU with actual VGA class card and monochrome monitor). My first non-PC computer had 64KiB of RAM (it was Commodore 64). My first console had 2KiB (NES clone) and the first console I've ever played (but didn't own) had no RAM at all. It was analog TV pong game. My main PC today has 64GiB, which is unbelievable amount compared to these old machines. And I plan to upgrade to 128GiB this winter. Crazy.
@@whoishaktan VMs, AI, compilation, RAM drives, etc. I also like to run my machines swapless to prolong the life of SSDs. 128 gigs might be an overkill for a desktop machine now, but that changes pretty fast.
We used to have a PC running on Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM and 120GB PATA HDD. Played games on it like Road Rash, House of the Dead 2, Miniclip Collection, CnC Red Alert 2. This was on 2007
Which version of Windows did you run with? If it was Windows 10, that could be what caused the stuttering in GTA 4. On something like Windows XP, Vista, or 7, that RAM amount would probably be more than okay. I used to play GTA 4 on Windows 7 with 1.5 GB RAM without stuttering.
What operating system did you try running these on? If you used Windows 10, the performance issues you had with both 4 and 5 might be caused by the fact that windows 10 uses more ram than previous versions of windows.
Also bandicam uses lots of ram like already even in gta 3 1.5gb of ram were used its because of windows and bandicam you are absolutly correct and me too😋
And this is literally me. I have a 10 year old laptop and it has 2 gb ram. I have tried gta 3, gta vc, gta sa, and I got 50 to 93 fps but in gta 4 it started to get 2-3 fps if I am looking straight towards building and I will get 15 fps only while looking down to the road. And I know how it would be like if I had gta 5. My ram and cpu would have exploded.🔥🔥
Okay, my pc specs are "Intel pentium dual core E5700, 6GB Ram, intel G41 express chipset (integrated graphics)". My father bought it back in 2013 and am still using it and I don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon. I don't play games much except occasionally playing Aoe2, gta sa, gta vice. My pc runs these games pretty well. UA-cam in chrome also runs pretty good. However lags when playing video above 720p resolution. If I ever upgrade someday I'll buy the best cpu, graphics card and everything and see my reaction.
I don't have a dedicated one on my PC, so it has 128 mb RAM. But recently, I bought the Arkham Trilogy, so I just to see if it would run, I downloaded Asylum, but already imagining the lag, I installed LSE(Low Spec Expirience) and... impressively, in the program's most basic configuration, it ran smoothly.
I bought my first ever pc with 16gb ram and intel core i5 rtx 4060 it will arrive in a couple of days my big brother bought gta 5 for free a couple of years ago from epic games i think from his phone
I was able to play gta v at a little more than 50fps in medium graphics, the problem was that I have lag in some scenes, my pc had a core 2 duo e8500, 2gb ddr2 ram and a gtx 750ti (obviously towards bottleneck because it wasn't using all the gpu, i was doing performance tests on that processor).
Every gta player can realte how much we feel sad at the end mission especially in gta 4 I felt very bad 😞😭 soooo good you must try gta 4 it's story is best of all reply if you can relate👍

It was painful, but GTA4 was actually playable on medium settings at 30-40 fps. Also couldn't even run more modern games, such as GTA 5, as my GPU lacked DirectX 11 support. There is a list of some games that I played on that system:
Crysis 1
Crysis 2
All Assassin's Creed games till 4 (Black Flag)
GTA 4
Skyrim
Far Cry 2
Far Cry 3
Bioshock
Fear
Euro Truck Simulator
The Forest
Dead Space
NFS Pro Street
Race driver GRID
CSGO (until 2019, after that it was unplayable)
Mirror's Edge
Battlefield 3
And many more
GTA 4 has worst PC optimization ...it's funky even in a better pc
gta runs on DirectX 10 too so you cold run it on a gts 250
Gta san Andreas is our childhood game😊😊😊😊😊😊
2:41 I was be like "My god" 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀
Can you include GTA 1, London and 2 in a future video. They’ll probably run fast on 2 GB of RAM just like GTA 5 running on 32 GB since they came out in 1997 and 1998 with mostly 2D sprites.
Those games aren't even for sell now.

Dude GTA San Andreas Is Goated Aint gonna lie, It's my favorite, CJ is hella undderrated
I used to play GTA V with 4 GB RAM and at around 15-20 FPS :) But now I'm getting over 120+ FPS and finally I can play heist missions with my friends :D
Did you had graphics card or without it?
@@aniket_nandy I had for 512 mb.
Those were still fun times playing these games.
it's weird how 3 ran better than vc, vc is a lot more optimized than 3
@@haruokumura2977 --- True that GTA Vice City is more optimized than GTA 3.
GTA V looks like it was made for the PS1
High fps in GTA 3 water wave is insane fast

Damn, i cant wait to see gta 6 run with 2gigs of ram
What are your pc specs? Other than “2GB RAM”
Like what cpu gpu and HDD (or SSD) did you use?
First PC I had was got 2 GB ram in it (2010). Then I have increased it to 3 GB. A few years laters to play some games with my brother we bought a Laptop which has 4 GB ram in it (2019-2020). A 2 years later my PC was just died. Then I continued with the laptop. And now, we got a new PC that is has 16 GB ram.. (2023)
I got pc with 16 gb ram in 2023 too
I had a PC with 524 Mb of RAM for over than 5 years 2013-2019

I remember playing vice city on my cousins old laptop it was sofun
My first PC had 4MiB of RAM (386 CPU with actual VGA class card and monochrome monitor). My first non-PC computer had 64KiB of RAM (it was Commodore 64). My first console had 2KiB (NES clone) and the first console I've ever played (but didn't own) had no RAM at all. It was analog TV pong game. My main PC today has 64GiB, which is unbelievable amount compared to these old machines. And I plan to upgrade to 128GiB this winter. Crazy.
you've came a long way
yeah you’ve come a long way but why do you need 128 gigs of ram for
@@whoishaktan VMs, AI, compilation, RAM drives, etc. I also like to run my machines swapless to prolong the life of SSDs. 128 gigs might be an overkill for a desktop machine now, but that changes pretty fast.

ah, yes, playing games with 2gb of ram and thinking 30 fps was crazy high was my favourite pass time when i was 11
We used to have a PC running on Pentium 4 with 1GB RAM and 120GB PATA HDD.
I struggled to play with 2GB Ram in windows 7…
I still playing GTA san Andreas on my 1 GB Ram pc 😎👍🏻
What operating system did you try running these on? If you used Windows 10, the performance issues you had with both 4 and 5 might be caused by the fact that windows 10 uses more ram than previous versions of windows.
Also bandicam uses lots of ram like already even in gta 3 1.5gb of ram were used its because of windows and bandicam you are absolutly correct and me too😋
bruh windows 10 is wayyyyyyyyyy faster than windows 11
My current PC is 6-7 years old and originally used to had 8Gb ram but now its modified and now there is 16Gb

yea bro , my pc running gta 5 4:25
