Last year I used a similar size plastic container without any plants and stones. As a substrate was used mixture of coco fiber and perlite. My Veiled Chameleon successfully laid 65 eggs. Thanks for the video. Keep it up.

I love your videos. Helpful, not preachy, not paralyzing with too much information. My girls are almost a year old, so I’d expect they’ll probably be of age to lay (infertile) eggs soon. I am trying to make it comfortable for them when they feel the need.

I love that you add vegetation to your laying bin... this is something I have always done for security for them to feel safe. I've never used rocks but I have in fact taken like a 2 in wide and 10 inch Long Branch and vertically stuck it in the sand and more often than not they will dig next to that Branch submerged in the dirt vertically. I'm constantly looking to improve and make the laying experience better with each species. One thing I've always wondered given the opportunity with the chameleon, in the wild do they lay directly in the sunlight or do they stick to the shady areas.? Something I've often wondered about with all of the popular species

Good question on the open vs shaded. I would assume protected, but have seen chameleons laying in the open. I'll check around and see if I can get a good answer to this question.

@chamaleonacademy hey, my veiled chamaleon have it's bin with the mix in, and a live plant. She has bumps on the back part or her belly. And has being going down to the bin couple of times during the day. But has not lay eggs. She's been like this 3-5 days. Should I fo something else or just wait.?

I just wanted to say you look like Elon Musk... Great video though, would just soil be ok? I see a lot of things say sand and soil.

I have a female panther chameleon I think is gravid and I am worried she might be getting egg bound. The set up I have is a bioactive enclosure. So the bottom is all sand and soil. 1/2 and half with sand to one side and soil on the other and in the middle they are mixed equal parts. My goal was for her set up to be as close to nature as possible. For awhile I also had a bin of just moist sand in there as well seeing if for some reason she wanted a BIN. I also have a few plants but theres also lots of privacy and space to dig. I do have cats and dogs, but I keep her in my office and try to keep them out. The next step may be the vet but I have heard a lot of people say the vet made theirs worse/more stressed. I do believe we have a great exotics vet near me, so if I have to at least theres a reputable one. I believe she was still young but about full size when I got her and that was 7 months ago. I haven't ever SEEN her lay anything or any holes dug. She has only been on the bottom once in the morning and that was recently so I am hoping maybe she's looking for a spot?

Should a lay bin stay in the tank at all times for females or only when they are gravid?

Only necessary when gravid. Otherwise it just gathers water and poop. Unless it has another function in the cage I take them out

The laying bin is only necessary when she is wanting to lay eggs . You can remove it otherwise.

Is this your pet you saw lay eggs? You can just leave them in the ground if you don’t want to do anything with them. Do you know if they are fertile?
