    Many ways of doing it and yours is a good as any. I like to put the cement bag on some sand and cut through with an old saw 👍👍

    • @dannyhill896
      @dannyhill896 6 років тому +4

      J D11 it’ll go off in your sand and make it lumpy

    • @JD-uh9od
      @JD-uh9od 6 років тому

      It stays in the bag the same as in stu’s video. The sand allows the saw to cut all the way through.

    • @dannyhill896
      @dannyhill896 6 років тому

      J D11 yeah but if you cut it all the way through cement is gonna fall out into the sand and contaminate it I’ve seen lads do it before I know what they do you use the sand to make a clean cut instead of cutting the top like the video

    • @paulmcfadyen689
      @paulmcfadyen689 6 років тому +3

      Danny Hill what does it matter? You're likely going to chuck the sand straight in the mixer anyway.

      I just use a Stanley knife, an ever sharp Stanley knife, a couple of wipes on a diamond sharpening stone, keeps it sharp, and is quicker than changing the blade, cut through the bag, pull up and cut the bottom of the bag, job done, I prefer to use the waterproof bags, because they don’t go off in the bag, I keep a full bag though and if there is a half bag left, it goes in the full bag, then can be wrapped up and stored.

    Remembered seeing this video a good few months back and was mixing up some floor leveling compound tonight. Watched it again to refresh my memory and it works perfect every time, nice one Stu, accurate measure for half a bag, and saved on a lot of mess which kept me on the good side of the Mrs! Cheers!

    I’ve done that for years. I like it a lot. It is very efficient and effective when working in moderate large and fast projects. Good technique. Thanks for sharing it.

    I do it with a shovel. The old big bags were good to cut in half. Usually shovel off the top of a bag with 16/18 sand, then the full bag.

  • @lifesforliving88
    @lifesforliving88 4 роки тому +1

    Or a more accurate way is to use buckets 4 level full buckets of sand to 1 level full bucket of cement...
    Put 2 sand in and then 1 cement then another 2 sand in it will mix nicely and evenly and will always have the same colour ( as long as you use same sand and cement)
    Also when you add your plas add it direct to you mix and not to water in your bucket ( I know stu werent mentioning plas in this video... its just for your personal reference)

    Ahaha I remember getting taught that in my first day those water proof bags behind your best using an old handsaw. Some times see blokes cutting it on top of the sand makes you cringe cause there gonna reck the sand doing that

    • @Stucrompton1
      @Stucrompton1  6 років тому +1

      Yes I agree Dan best to not do it this j the sand and you can still cut plastic bag cement with a trowel, nice and tidy

    • @elliottbates62
      @elliottbates62 4 роки тому

      Used to be 50kg in the old days. Had to reduce the weight to 25kg a bag about 20 years ago for health and safety reasons, so people can lift them. Load of bollocks

      50 kilos is a little heavy to carry by yourself but construction brazilian workers handle it very well.

    4 bags of sand to 1 of cement doesn't actually give you a 4:1 mix. Your sand bags are almost certainly well under 25kg (generally more like 22.5kg) and sand is denser than cement. Put those two factors together and you're getting a volume ratio of about 50:17 litres, which is almost exactly 3:1. Good strong mortar, but money down the drain for most purposes.

    • @fishmut
      @fishmut 2 роки тому

      Volume and weight are 2 different things , 4 to 1 is volume nothing said about weight for the mix , how ever please yourself.

    I thought you got the apprentice to hold it above his head (as a test of strength) then slice it .
    What's left on the ground/bag is about half a bag,the young lad will be wearing the other half.
