The Beyond Sausages are the best sausages for sure. I thought Field Roast to be too dense and dry. The Simple Franks by Loma Linda fry up the best. Hotdogs should be a little juicy.
I am newly Vegan , I just found you guys and I’m obsessed! You guys are so helpful and knowledgeable . Thank you so much for this channel. What a blessing !!! 💗💜💖
I just tried the beyond meat hot sausage yesterday for a GOT party and I threw it in a vegan Mac n cheese and my non vegan friends were so surprised. They were like this is vegan cheese and sausage?!? They loved it lol Your mac n cheese video helped me pick the right combination so thanks for all the videos! Love your videos, Monday’s are now scheduled on my calendar for Vegan View 😉
I soak my smart dogs in heavily salted water for 24 hours and then grill them! It reminds me of eating “dirty water” hot dogs from the food carts in NYC.. delicious, nostalgic and cruelty free!
I LOVE ya'lls vibe. You're all super sweet, and seem to be genuinely kind-hearted souls. Thank you SO much for everything you do. We, a family of 5, are transitioning to vegan. I'm hoping to get rid of chronic migraines, lots of extra weight, and improve overall health of my entire family.
The smart dogs are always my go to. Love putting mustard and hot pickled peppers on top. Also, use puff pastry and make pigs n a blanket with them which is a kid favorite
I actually just made the Beyond Brats last night for my meat eating aunts. They both freaked out over them and said it reminded them of the Oktoberfest beer brats we used to get in Wisconsin and they would eat them again. Another win for vegan meat! I also like the smart dogs when I'm craving something nostalgic.
I prefer the Simple Franks, but Big Franks are good. TBH the Super-Links are the closest thing to a proper hotdog, but they aren't vegan. Big Franks are giant vegan Vienna sausages and Simple Franks are soft, smoky soy dogs--sooo good fried on a bun and dressed up. Sadly if you aren't fortunate enough to find these products locally, you can get them on Amazon. They're expensive, but they last a LONG time on the shelf. Try them!
If you have an Aldi in your area, they have great vegan jumbo dogs that are very similar to the Lightlife dogs but cheaper! I also recently took carrot dogs to a camp out and I (and my non vegan mother) were BLOWN away! I ❤️ hotdogs. Love this video!
I'm British (where we have hot dogs, but they aren't as much of a 'thing') and what I've got from this video is that Americans have a LOT of different sausage references 😂 Brat, Ball Park, OktoberFest, Breakfast.... The list seems to go on and on So many different sausages for so many different occasions!!!
So I’m from the Chicago/Milwaukee area (grew up in both) and I’ve tried all of these except the Tofu Pups. IMO the field roast ones are the most like a Chicago-style dog (like from Portillo’s) and the beyond meat brats are like Wisconsin-style beer brats (which I used to be able to pack away lol). I was personally really disappointed with the tofurky “beer brats” when I tried them about a year ago, so I’ll always reach for the beyond brats & burgers for midwestern bbq’s!
We use the lightlife smart dogs for mini corn dog nuggets (using a mini muffin pan), the field roast for hotdogs (tonight’s dinner actually!) and the beyond meat ones as brats- they’re our faves🤤
Lightlife was what was widely available for us for a while, but those Field Roast dogs are now more available and they are soooooo good. They’re worth the extra cost. I have young kids whose dad is not vegan, so they (unfortunately) are still consuming meat products when they’re with him and his family. They say “we eat nothing fake in our house.” 😔 But that also means that my girls know what the meat option tastes like all too well and their palette is constantly comparing the two. I find the Field Roast to be eaten by my kids without complaint or weird face, and my 5 year old will actually ask for them cold, straight out of the fridge. 😳
I can relate to the struggle of kids going between a vegan and non-vegan house. It's difficult to convince kids to eat the vegan mock meats when they still consume animal products. Especially if the other parent's attitude toward veganism is negative.
Personally I’m a big fan of yellow mustard and mayonnaise on a hot dog. Sauerkraut, onions, and brown mustard on brats. The WI girl in me loves the Beyond brats! I use them in my beer brat chili and top with sauerkraut and vegan sour cream 😋😋😋 Also, the Beyond brats I’ve learned you can’t cook in beer or the exterior gets gooey, so cook the onions you plan to top them with in beer and it’s 🔥🔥🔥
The field roast is the best “hot dog”in the traditional sense. The Beyond sausage reminds me of a hot link and is excellent with mustard and sauerkraut and I believe is the most versatile. The Smart Dog reminds me of bologna and I actual prefer it uncooked with saltines.
Light Life and Field Roast are part of the same company if anyone was wondering and they used to be owned by ConAgra. Currently owned by a Canadian Meat Packaging company
Nisha casually talking about grinding all the animal parts GAG lol. I actually just had my first vegan hot dog on Saturday at Cincy Vegfest. I just have not gone out of my way to try one since I was not a big hot dog gal, but let me tell you it was so good. It was Cincinnati style with the chili/meaty sauce on top and violife cheddar cheese. Yummy!
The Beyond Brats are awesome grilled and topped with peppers & onions on them too. I also love that they are gluten free which is hard to come by in most vegan alternatives. I just recently bought 3 kinds of vegan hot dogs to have a taste test with my family. So it's extra funny to me that you just did this video.
I love vegan hotdogs and mac and cheese. My sister said are you wanting meat now? But I feel like if theres a fake meat you like, no matter how realistic it is, its still missing that yuck yuck factor of meat and is never really like it and that's why its good. Like i specifically like vegan meats. Ya know what I mean?
In Australia, using a sausage on a hot dog bun is called a Sausage Dog. I really like the Field Roast Apple & Sage ones for my Sausage Dogs with bbq sauce and mustard.
I dont know about the states but in canada they sell reusable cooking sheet that are meant for barbecues and you even get the grill lines on the food when using them. Its a really good option when you dont want your food mingling with animal fat and it doesnt stick like foil and you can wash it and reuse it multiple times
The Beyond Brats are a huge hit in our house. I'm so glad they're more readily available in my area now. The Aldi Earth Grown jumbo dogs are the fave for basic kiddie hot dogs. They have that little extra saltiness that I think the Smartdogs slightly fall short on.
1.Beyond is absolutely the best! Definitely more sausage than hot dog but with out a doubt the best flavor for me. 2. Smart dog when dressed like hotdog is 2nd best for me 3.Tofurky is a solid 3rd place. Like any of these if it's prepared right it is good, especially it's your only option but I'd say the other two are much better. Haven't had tofu pups Field roast is the absolute worst of the ones I've tried, at first it doesn't taste bad but I've tried many different field roast products and they all have the grossest aftertaste.
I hated the beyond sausage but I cut it up into slices and warmed it up on a pan. I only cooked two and threw away the other two. Im just not into fake meats and stuff! I might try field roast next time! Thank you!
Thanks Ladies! I didn’t know all of these existed! Yummmmmm! I eat hot dogs a lot, I mean a lot ! My husband makes them for me, he makes them in a corn tortilla with vegan melty cheese in the microwave then ketchup and hot sauce then he rolls them up and I eat two of them! I use Light Life( not the tofu ones ) Now I’m interested in a few of the ones you taste tested😋! Btw, I love your individual channels too! ❤️Kathy
I usually get Smart Dogs! My favorite toppings are sauerkraut, FYH swiss cheese, brown mustard, and FYH 1000 Island to create my own reuben hot dog. A vegan frozen dessert taste test video would be awesome! Like ice cream, gelato, ice cream bars/sandwiches. Perfect for summer! Or pizza! 🍕✨🍦 Love your channel so much - it’s inspired countless recipes, Taco Bell trips, mac n cheese lunches, and also makes trying new items (like oat milk) much easier and low risk since I’ve already heard a variety of feedback from you ladies! Thank you! 💕
So only some of Loma Linda's items are vegan, but I've found their products are great considering they're all shelf-stable. Some of their ready-to-eat pouches aren't bad, and some of their meat analogues are nice as well. I love it for the convenience. It's great to have a pantry filled with long-term storable foods that are all plant-based.
Smart dogs are my go to barbecues, perfect for parties especially if everyone else is eating regular hot dogs so I don’t feel like I’m being super different. I ate so many of them last summer. Also love the beyond sausage with grilled onion and some good mustard 😋
Love the Italian tofurkey one with pasta. The light life are easier to find and just nostalgic. Perfect for BBQs. The sage field roast are another go to, but I have yet to find the beyond sausage to share with my non veg friends 😁
Beyond Sausage Brats, have a "Brat" texture as in German Brats. Good with onions and brown mustard. Serve on a good roll and grill with a crispy crust.
My favourite vegan sausage/hotdog is Fry's. They have a lot of different sausages too, like spicy curry, classic hotdog, boerewors (south african classic), etc
The Beyond Brats are definitely brats style... if one is looking for that then they are spot on. You guys did really good and stayed on target with trying to choose a 'hot dog' because that was what I think the taste test was supposed to be about. Glad to know as far as adults- the Frankfurters are the one to have. Thanks!
Well done, ladies, thank you. The one thing you might have mentioned, since it's important to many people for health reasons, is salt content. And if memory serves, one of your two highest-rated hot dogs, the Field Roast, has among the highest, with a whopping 710 mg. sodium per link. Also, since not everyone grills them, perhaps a mention of how they'd taste boiled or pan-fried?
So what kind of buns do you guys use? I have a hard time finding vegan ones. The “is it vegan” app usually says, “not sure” so I don’t buy them. Thanks.
Most hotdog buns and conventional breads in the super market are vegan...many just have a cross contamination warning for allergies. If it says CONTAINS: milk, it is not vegan. If it says MAY CONTAIN: milk, then it is a vegan product with an allergy warning due to shared processing equipment. Hope this is helpful!!!
About 4 years ago, I started trying the substitute meats and I really like the light life ones. When I was pregnant, not sure if my taste buds saw things differently during that time in my life, but I tried the field roast breakfast links. I think they were an apple-something flavor, and I hated them. They cost too much much for me to try them again even 4 years later. I still buy the lightlife hotdogs though and my non-vegan husband and 4 year old like them too. I like Dijon and relish on mine.
Lightlife veg sausage in the tube makes great patties for a breakfast sausage with a pinch of salt and I love to add maple syrup too... Aldi hot dogs are the best ones I have ever found for vegan dogs you should all check them out... very realistic and better than smart dog
I'm not sure if this is a new product, but Field Roast has a signature stadium dog now and it's soooo good! My boyfriend loves it (he's not vegan). You guys need to try it!
How about one on the best vegan frozen hors d'oeuvres? Amy's margherita pizza swirls, Field Roast mini corn dogs, Gardein crabless cakes, Tofurky pockets, Quorn fishless sticks, Dr. Praeger's kale puffs, etc.
Yay highlight to my monday! ALSO I actually really enjoy the yves hot dog (they're really accessible in Toronto) I think they're very traditional tasting! But the field roast sausages I don't think that they're amazing but not a traditional hotdog! Such a good idea about the aluminum foil!
I think the beer brat is supposed to be like a weisswurst as opposed to a hot dog 🙂. So good with a German mustard or spicy brown or sauerkraut like Nikki said!
@@TheVeganView Im not even sure which Yves dog was the best, but it was one type in particular. I personally try not to eat any of the gf ones bc of all the different weird ingredients. I'd say that the Beyond is/was irresistible (even though their new recipe is not as good)
I am gluten free for health reasons so I’ve only tried the Beyond Meat Brats, I like that they don’t have canola oil. I think they are really yummy. My 19 year old son is not vegan and he liked them.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the best gluten free and vegan bread slices or buns? I cant have bread and ive always been happy wrapping my hot dogs in kale but I want a bun now lol.
Great video, love these types of reviews (even though I've tried almost all of these, lol). I think Brat's are technically a sausage so I don't think they are trying to be hotdogs. The Beyond Meat brats (if I remember correctly) are very similar to meat based brats, from the more ground meat texture to the skin on the outside.
Loma Linda Big Franks coming to can you can get small ones to I grew up eating those. I haven't tried them a pair to the other hot dogs. I like ketchup and onions maybe some vegan cheese. I'll definitely have to try the dill pickle relish didn't know they had that.
I can’t wait to try these! I love the smart dogs already. My kids love them too and they are not vegan. You all look beautiful as always ❤️ thank you for the video! I love vegan taste tests ☺️ oh and I love ketchup, mustard, and pickles or relish on my hot dogs. Vegan of course ❤️
Ive been vegan for over a year, and smartdogs are one of the first mock meats i tried. I found them to be so awful! I did enjoy the field roast, but its more of an Italian sausage.
The best are Loma Linda Simple Franks for just a straight up hotdog. Makes bomb diggity chili 'cheeze' dogs Don't fear the BPA free canned weenies. They're off the chain!
Can you do more vegan junk-foody type videos? I looove them!!
South African Vegan absolutely 😍
@@NishaBalsara Thank you so much Nisha!
Sure! What would you like to see? :)
Lol these vegan hot dogs are junk food. The field today is tasty but only convincing if topped with condiments.
@@NikkiVegan I would love to see y'all taste testing the vegan fast food options! Love you guys!
1. Beyond meat sausage
2. Field Roast hotdog
Hands down the best!
The sausages go great with dumplings.

The field roast has a smoked apple and sage flavor that is delicious and great for brunch too. They also have a spicy chorizo thats so good.
Agreed! Love Field Roast :)

I always press the thumbs up before I watch your videos
Yves! Yves is so underrated...I havent had them in a while bc they have gluten but I remember them being miles better than the smart dogs.
Right?? They’re so yum! Which brand are you liking now a’days? Any good gluten free options?
@@TheVeganView Im not even sure which Yves dog was the best, but it was one type in particular. I personally try not to eat any of the gf ones bc of all the different weird ingredients. I'd say that the Beyond is/was irresistible (even though their new recipe is not as good)
Field Roast Frankfuters 9:14
Did anyone else notice the orangey tinted filter at 4:32 when they were talking about the hot dogs being orange 😂
The beyond meat sausage is my favorite 🌭 I don’t think people would be able to tell it’s not a real sausage if they didn’t know
I am gluten free for health reasons so I’ve only tried the Beyond Meat Brats, I like that they don’t have canola oil. I think they are really yummy. My 19 year old son is not vegan and he liked them.
Yeah those are super popular with vegans and non vegans alike 🙌💚 glad you can relate!
Yes, sauerkraut and Dijon mustard!
yummm yes!
Yaaay Happy Monday
Happy Monday (even though it's now Friday lol) 💚 Hope you're having a good day!
Where do you buy Field-roast Frankfurters? I can’t find them anywhere. I only see they are out of stock in Target and amazon...? I live in FL.
Whole foods, Safeway...
Yall im famous! I suggested this ♡♡♡♡♡ hahaha♡♡♡
Yes you did!!!!
Jen Corin YOU THE BEST
Thanks for the idea! Hope you loved the video 💚
beyond meat is the best! but my go to is always light life when i want a classic hot dog
Does anyone have a suggestion for the best gluten free and vegan bread slices or buns? I cant have bread and ive always been happy wrapping my hot dogs in kale but I want a bun now lol.
Little Northern Bakehouse makes one.
I don't know if it's good, but it has millet and chia seeds.
Edit: I love your username.
@@r.c.whitaker296 thanks I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks!
At what temperature and for how long do you bake the Beyond Brats?
Hey! The cooking time and directions are on the package ☺️ hope you’ll give these a try, they’re honestly so delicious!
I grew up wrapping a slice of American cheese around a hotdog before putting it in a bun.
I only eat my hotdogs with chili maybe cause I'm from Chicago and eat it with smart dogs so good
I know I’m way behind on my Watch list lol but have you ever tried the Field Roast breakfast sausage?
I think it’s so good.
Loma Linda Big Franks coming to can you can get small ones to I grew up eating those. I haven't tried them a pair to the other hot dogs. I like ketchup and onions maybe some vegan cheese. I'll definitely have to try the dill pickle relish didn't know they had that.
Fieldroast and Beyond are definitely my favorite. I think the first ones I ever tried were the Lightlife and I found them hard to get down lol.
i love all of these hot dogs/sausages omggggg my addiction!!!!
I can’t wait to try these! I love the smart dogs already. My kids love them too and they are not vegan. You all look beautiful as always ❤️ thank you for the video! I love vegan taste tests ☺️ oh and I love ketchup, mustard, and pickles or relish on my hot dogs. Vegan of course ❤️
lightlife vegan hot dogs literally taste like actually hot dogs, my favorite!
Ive been vegan for over a year, and smartdogs are one of the first mock meats i tried. I found them to be so awful! I did enjoy the field roast, but its more of an Italian sausage.
That intro though! 😂
The field roast frankfurters are the best!
Can u guys test earth balance snacks
oooooo good idea! I love their vegan cheddar squares
the smokiness is mimicking regular dog which has nitrites that include smoke.
yep! definitely more of a treat than an every day food of course :)
I make zuppa toscana with the hot italian beyond 🤤
Ooo we’ll look for that brand!
The best are Loma Linda Simple Franks for just a straight up hotdog. Makes bomb diggity chili 'cheeze' dogs
Don't fear the BPA free canned weenies. They're off the chain!
Good morning thanks😀🌭🌭
