If the kid is hungry he won't be able to focus properly on schoolwork so there's no reason he shouldn't have been able to have it.

+Wendy Domino Nah that teacher isn't mean.. That kid is in 5th grade and it is his own decision to not get lunch if all he has to do is do his work. People pay tax money for kids to go to school and learn so they can get an education and keep society moving forward, not to sit around most likely playing in class and then cry when they don't get food.
I'd rather my kid learn his lesson from not doing his work by not eating 1 meal out of his day than to get held back and go through that year again. You guys act like that 1 meal is going to kill him....

Layla LaDouceur No, I don't. The kid was told if he did the work he could eat. At that point, it is his decision on whether or not he eats. He can do the work and eat, or not do it and not eat.
At that point, it is the kid that is holding himself back, not the teacher. If the kid did the work and the teacher didn't let him eat, then it is the teachers fault.

When I was in the 6th and 7th grade, my teacher assistant would throw out my lunch, and would regularly deny me lunch if I "didn't eat correctly". I am special needs, and that was unacceptable. My mom asked me why I would scarf down my dinner, and I told her why. Teacher was fired the next day.

Clinton K I'm not talking about breaking the law., I was more focussed on morality which isn't always the same as legal perspective. Legally, maybe she can do that but morally, you can't deny someone a meal. Like, maybe they are super poor. Biologically speaking, some of the high in fat conent foods are cheap and expensive foods are typically the healthier food options. So maybe the dad is a big guy because he always buys unhealthy as a result of finances. I was speaking from a place of - don't eff up a child's development perspective as opposed to a legal one.

I never knew if she was a teacher, counselor, etc. but for almost the entire lunch break I obeyed and I sat watching all my friends eating while my stomach was starving. Around the last 10 minutes they all convinced me to get something to eat so I went with about 6 minutes left on the clock to eat. The lady appeared at that time and yelled at me in front of everybody. Obviously as a nine year old who never got in trouble before, I was scared and cried of humiliation/embarrassment for being yelled in front of the entire cafeteria. Well if your child has low blood sugar im sure you would let the teachers and school nurse know. If there’s a health reason she would have let him go to second breakfast. I think the father should have fed his child or dropped him early for first breakfast. Or explained to the school that it’s crucial his son eats while at school. Because he may not afford food. I had a friend in middle school who was diabetic and the school took away the entire lunch she brought from home. All because there was a candy bar, in case her blood sugar dropped. The school didn't even allow her to have her insulin on school grounds, not even in the nurses office. They considered anything, other than Tylenol, a illegal substance or an healthy lunch. (Despite only selling fried, greasy foods and ice cream)
We had a class together after lunch, so I snuck my fun-size candy in my pocket. When she asked to go to the nurse, I was asked to follow so "she doesn't leave the school". She collapsed and I just barely caught her. I snuck the candy in her mouth, whispered, "eat this and hold on" and booked it as fast as one piggybacking a fellow teen could.
An ambulance was called and her blood sugar was so low, she could've died. I was told that bit of sugar I gave her was the only thing that kept her. The school demanded she tell them who gave her the "drugs" and she refused. Their excuse to them nearly killing her was, "she got her fix somehow".
Many lawsuits came on them for other reasons, but she didn't even tell her parents until we graduated that I was the one who gave her the candy. They thanked me for saving her and all I said was, "it was just a feeling I had that she'd need it."
I didn't understand diabetes and still kinda don't. All I knew was her blood sugar was going to be low and I knew that I would be called to "walk" her to the nurse. If she didn't eat something, something bad would happen. I didn't think she could die, but that was a very sobering experience, knowing you may have saved someone by doing something as tiny as giving them some candy.

I 100% agree with this man. I guaruntee you, that teacher was "personally offended" by the boy being "overweight" and decided he could stand to miss a few meals. Maybe his blood sugar was spiking without breakfast, how does she know? I used to teach elementary school. I started seeing the schools hiring these new teachers with smug judgemental attitudes towards their students for things like being overweight, poorly dressed kids, and began taking authority over kids they deemed to be needing punishment by denial of food, recess, bathroom breaks.
I had students who had to go to the bathroom often because of health issues, and/or prescriptions they were taking to treat health issues like diabetics, undiagnosed diabetics! But, this teacher denied that man's son food for breakfast - food that is there at school for the children to eat. It gets tossed out - if uneaten or unused. This teacher's attitude sucks. If I was that student's parent, I would sue the school district. That's what we the people need to do, sue these smug people with elitist attitudes, like our out of control federal government spending trillions without the permission of we the tax payers, giving billions away to other countries!! Any company that mistreats or singles-out certain individuals to punish or to treat worse than others, should be sued.

There are 3 breakfast periods in CA. There’s traditional breakfast, which begins about 40 minutes before school. There’s “Breakfast in the Classroom,” upon which this segment touches. At this time, a monitor delivers a breakfast snack (like a muffin with fruit) and milk to the kids. What most call “Recess,” we call “Nutrition,” which occurs at around 10:20am. Kids can eat from the cafeteria during Nutrition, and many middle and high schoolers have access to vending machines as well. By 11:40, it’s lunch time, and the State will feed the kids yet again. The State offers a free program, called “Beyond the Bell,” which feeds the kids free snacks at around 2:30pm, regardless of individual income as long as 50 percent of the school’s kids are eligible for free lunch. In LA, there’s a 5th feeding of “supper,” at over 500 schools in low income areas, which any child (no attendance requirement, capped at age 18) can access, whether or not the child attends Beyond the Bell. CA offers kids over 4000 calories per day.

Also, it was mentioned that this incident has occurred before. I have a theory. Perhaps this student has a record of not doing his homework and could even be one of those students who is not the best behaved or studious and this could play an additional factor in the teacher not allowing him 2nd chance breakfast. You know like she's denying him a privilege based on his actions. A lot of parents today think their child is perfect and innocent and are not holding them accountable for anything and they lash out at the teacher/school for trying to reprimand the kids and try to get them sued or terminated or whatever. As a result of this these teachers are powerless to control their classroom which is why students are running wild now. I could be completely wrong, but just a thought.

When I was a kid, I was held in "detention" during a lunch hour one day. I didn't think anything of it. Now, that I look back on it, it looks like that wasn't a thing that she was allowed to do.

This dad and son have everything scripted. Shame on this dad for going straight to public shaming.

See, I pray that I’m not put into certain situations like these, because anyone who harms or mistreat my daughter is gonna cause me to go to jail. I just don’t have the time or the patience.

If you are not giving your own child breakfast, you are the problem.

That same thing happened to me when I was 8. I went to go to lunch and the lunch lady called out, in front of all of my friends and everyone in the lunchroom, "Are you (My name)?"
    Me: "Ummm yeah?"
Lunchlady: "You haven't paid for lunch in 2 days. No lunch until you pay." I mean its not the same exact thing but its kinda similar. My family and I were having money problems at that time and thats why I had not paid, because we barely had enough money for even our bills.

Why didn’t your parents fill out the forms for free lunch ?
It’s for the low income people I was on that program all through my school years...

Your parents should have been responsible enough to enroll in the free lunch program. That’s what it is there for.

my question is what is wrong with the parent being a parent and feeding his son breakfast before he goes to school?

is absolutely nothing wrong with that send a kid to school with a breakfast bar and his backpack if you can't fix him a meal. Parents these days think that it's other people's obligation to feed their child and then blame the teachers for everything the kid does wrong. This kid ask for a second chance breakfast in the middle of his first-class long after breakfast had stopped being served. why didn't this Dad grab something on the way if he already knew his kid was going to be late? Or at least stuff a cereal bar into his backpack on his way to school? it is not the teacher's job to make sure your child is fed

Right? The entitlement and whininess is too much for me. The father looks like he's well fed and not hard up. The child certainly looks like he's gotten fed regularly. It's not a mandated meal. If he poured 1/2 the vindictiveness and scorn he had into getting his kid to do homework...or school on time...his child would probably learn an invaluable lesson.

IF SHE DOES THIS TO THIS KID AS A PUNISHMENT, IMAGINE HOW SHE CORRECTS HER CHILDREN IF THEY DON'T DO GOOD IN SCHOOL..SOMETHING IS REALLY WRONG WITH HER.
