This project was a good solution for shade and was a “game changer” for my buddy Tony🔴 Follow me on Instagram: instagram.com/mrfredsdiy/ Here is my Affiliate Link for theLED’s we used on this awning. Fulldisclosure here, I do make a small commission. amzn.to/3svjShg
Nice design. Good job. Might be tempted to put swing out horizontal arms on each side, sew velcro straps to canvas or use grommets & bungee tarp holders.
Thanks for the comment! I have an awning makeover video publishing this Friday, 11/11/22. Tony and I gave this awning several upgrades! Thanks for watching!
Very clever. I've been trying to figure something out for the back of my commercial cap with barn doors like this. Excellent food for thought - thank you.
Glad you were able to get an idea or two from the video. I am working on an update video for this build. My buddy uses this awning so such he has worn out the inexpensive tarp.
@@MrFredsDIY OK cool...you got my sub. :-) I've been trying to figure out a way to eliminate the vertical poles on the ground like the typical vehicle awning, and also avoid running guy lines. The awnings on RVs caught my eye with the angled supports, but I wasn't sure I wanted to impede my barn doors from swinging fully open. Ultimately I'm not sure that it matters...as long as I can get in and out and open/close the doors with the awning deployed, that's really all that matters. What I also like about your design is that there's not that cumbersome zip up bag to deal with. I love the nesting electrical conduit approach, used that concept to build a different style DIY awning on my previous vehicle. Okay blah blah blah I'll quit rambling now. Thanks again and looking forward to the video update.
Thanks for this great video , I saved it and we are going to build a 6 1/2' x 6' version for my little teardrop , one on each side. I think I had it figured out except how to roll it up.
Right on! I am getting ready to help my friend “Tony” do a “one year after” rebuild of sorts. We are switching to a heavy canvas instead of the HF tarp and I’m welding some custom bottom brackets for the arms. Video will come in the next few weeks. Good luck with your build!
Do the same, but make sure you use a figure 8 channel to attach/detach to the van. That way it’s waterproof and easily removable in a matter of seconds. Greg

Perfect solution for what I want on mine. Thanks for posting it.
Great job, thanks for sharing. And yes it’s needed in the Nevada desert.
Thanks for commenting! I recently updated this canopy, here is that video▶️ua-cam.com/video/T8oqgoZ9fyE/v-deo.htmlsi=hg-Vmm0gIoLwsqoW
Great idea and what I liked about it the most is....you're not just a youboob product pusher. You ACTUALLY diy 'd something.
Thanks for the kind words. I really like making “stuff” like this awning. I’m working on a video now for a folding camping table I made from scratch.
thats really awesome engineering!!!
Thanks for watching! We are currently working on some mods and a video for this awning.

We have an update video here➡️ua-cam.com/video/T8oqgoZ9fyE/v-deo.htmlsi=5uHRFJPcFiB0zOtK
Looks like a great awning. Thanks for sharing the how to on it.
This is awesome!. Fantastic job, very cool of you to do this for your friend . take care my friend.
Nicely done, but one advice.
I would have riveted it to the inside of the water gutter @9:10. That way no water would drip in.

Very clever. I like that a lot.
Good work
Awesome job as always! 👍👍
This is SO SWEET. I need a canvas version for my 13' Trapper Camper. Can you build me a kit?
Well done!
Nice truck!!!!

I'd really be interested in something like this for my Promaster High Roof Van!!!

@@OneManEngineering Thank you good advice.
Nice
“Slicker than a Cat’s Upper Lip!!!!!!!”
Was the drip plate already on the shell? I have a Suburban with barn doors and this would be great.
Yes, the drip edge flashing was already above the doors from the factory.
NOICE! 😎
How does it retract?
It works like a window shade. A quick tug activates the spring, and it retracts.
Interesting project but it is not 'recoiling'
What hats is that your wearing?
It’s an older (2017) Field and Stream wide brim boonie. They no longer make this exact hat.
