  • What a great week in the print shop. I am not getting much sleep due to my kids, but I am getting a lot done in the print shop. First I hang out with my daughter for the morning while I print envelopes. I really enjoy teaching. Then I discovered the conveyor belt on my Challenge CMT 330 three knife trimmer stopped working. I suspected the motor was bad, but quickly found that a wire was broken and could easily be repaired.
    Next I had problems obtaining a high quality print on some new uncoated label stock. Took a few tries but found that increasing the second transfer pressure solved the problem and we were off to the races printing labels! Thanks for watching and have a great week!

    I have a similar KM digital press, a 2060. I can not get it to deliver #10 envelopes to the receding delivery tray. It only will use the stationary bin above it. What setting did you use to get it to work like yours? Also, we communicated earlier about the registration problem I've been having with the image shifting up and down on the paper. The servicemen and another KM representative was at my shop today. They replaced the entire mechanism that transports the paper through the imaging area and fuser. The problem persisted still. I told them it has to be a software or electrical issue since they've replaced practically every mechanical part and control board they could. Their next solution is to bring me a used 2070 and replace the entire unit. This has been going on for the past two months. It's really frustrating. Thanks again for the great videos.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  2 роки тому

      My printer just allows me to print envelopes to the receding tray. You should be able to select it in the finishing options of the firey. That is frustrating about image shift. Hopefully another machine will work flawlessly.

    The bustled Fiery - maybe its CPU might be running hotter that what it's supposed to run at, which in turn causes it to thermal throttle = reducing overall system performance. Might be a good idea to clean its cooler and replace the thermal interface material. I would recommend the Noctua NT-H1. In my experience, it will last a good 5 years before you notice any performance degradation, temperature wise.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  2 роки тому

      Thanks for pointing me in this direction. I am restocking thermal paste for me.

    • @orestes29
      @orestes29 2 роки тому

      @@justaprinter I also left this comment on your newest video but for some reason, UA-cam seems to be auto-deleting it:
      Dan, the thermal pad won't cut it in this case - this is usually used to thermally interface things like memory chips or VRMs to their respective heat sinks. There are some high performance graphite pads for CPUs I think, but there is absolutely zero reason to use this over a good thermal paste, like the Noctua NT-H1 that I recommended to you previously.
      The bearing on the fan seems to have completely seized. You can try removing the fan and re-lubricating it but it's more hassle than it's worth. Just remove the old cooler and note the CPU model etched on the CPU IHS - EFI uses standard desktop Intel CPUs. For example, it could read something like "3570". If you google "Intel 3570", the first result is going to be from Intel's website and scrolling down a bit, it will name the socket that is uses (for this case, it is LGA1155). If you find the socket your CPU uses, just search for "LGA1xxx CPU cooler" and buy one that you will think fit in the Fiery - the mounting screws are standard, all you have to worry is the volume of actual the cooler.
      If you would like to test the hard drive, you can disconnect it from the Fiery and then connect with either with a USB/SATA bridge (I think it uses 2.5" HDD - that's the smaller variant used by laptops etc, 3.5" won't work as they need more power than what a typical USB port can offer) or directly to a computer with a SATA power/data cable and check its health with a utility like CrystalDiskInfo (free) or HDDSentinel (paid).

    We're still struggling to get 8.5 x 11. We ordered a truck load to be delivered 3 weeks ago. It never showed up. It has been reset to next week and we are only getting a couple skids, not a truck load. What really hurts is that all our work is contract-priced per page, including paper. So when paper prices soar or we have to switch to more expensive stock, we cannot recoup the difference. In other words, we are now running work that costs us more to produce than we get paid for it. But even that number is not a number you want to run through it month after month. I had a Ricoh 5100, good machine but if you run 40,000 a month you can expect 3-4 service calls a month on it.

      Depending on how you look at it, it might be a great time to buy. If the current owner is done with the struggle you might be able to buy for a lower price. If you need to borrow money, interest rates are very low. Buying an existing business should get you a list of customers who already need print. That being said there is probably less risk in slowly starting up your own business, paying cash as you can afford it. That would be the safest way.

      Yes! I had three customers contact me about that yesterday. I sent him an email, we will see what happens. :)

      I know. Its been bad for over a year. I'm just seeing how long it lasts. I should order one to have on hand when it fails, but I'm not even sure that belt is necessary. Time will tell, I'll be sure to tell everyone! :)
