  • Slowly learning how this machine works and how to fix it. This is a fast machine and is the older version on the current Canon Titan, using the direct press technology which is a bit different from what I am used to.

    The Varioprints are the way to go, been running a 6160 for nine years, only to replace it with a Titan 6180 two years ago. Colour is done on a Canon 10000, we also still have
    4-colour conventional sheetfed and the combination of all this is simply perfect. Kind regards from Germany.

    hi Dan, that void that you have is from the developer unit. if you notice clumped up toner or dirt in the devl units its best to do a one time servicer on the devl units..a complete clean up removing all the toner and a complete vacuum of the units. if you see the spiral cleaners filling up at the ends you need to chck your devl units for side leaks that will spill over to the framing lamp located below the devloper unit and when you clean the framing unit you need to cleaon the print head too. the spiral cleaners are to remove paper dust and the sheet cleaners are to remove the the excess residue from the process. it works by printing a solid black print every 1500 prints which is then transfered tyo the spiral cleaner to form a sticky surface which then is used to clean off paper dust from the TTF belts..the sheet cleaners then collets any residue left behind by this process..there are also glue cleaners at the bottom back of the ttf units that should be cleaned everytime you replace your ttf belts these are the shiny rollers that have the coolent running through them these rollers are used to clean off glue that can sometimes be found inthe paper stock and other contaminations such as wax. typically the ttf belts have a life span of about 2.5 million prints per belt, same goes for the OPC, but this can vary with different types of media. and yes there is NO waste toner for this VP6XXX series . i service these machines and i can tell you that they can run for 4 days straight without any problems or jams providing they are running with good media and in the correct enviroment.

    I use to tech Oce stuff many years ago. They are monocomponent and it works pretty well. But you really need to shake the toner before you add it. And warmth and humidity could definitely cause clumping at the mag roller. Great machines. Had a mouse get stuck to a spiral cleaner once. Made a hell of a thumping noise.

    Good to have you back, Dan! I am not sure if your Canon machines have this, but I remember seeing a promo video where it shows a engine similar in size to the two smaller that you own where they implemented a waste heat recovery heat exchanger; they basically have the sheets that have just finished fusing preheat the sheets going in to be printed, which I though was quite a novel feature for a digital production press and another way to reduce their overall power consumption.
    The technology used in these machines is much much much more efficient than the traditional xerographic process we're all used to. It would be neat to see a 4 color process machine of this type.

    • @justaprinter
      @justaprinter  Рік тому +1

      You are correct! the 115 machines I have use a metal foil to cool off exiting sheets and warm up sheets that are entering the fuser. Very cool! I agree I'd love to see a color machine like this.

    • @LatitudeSky
      @LatitudeSky Рік тому

      They have the i300 on the four color inkjet side. It is radically different from the toner machines, however. It has a heated fixation drum to dry the ink and then a sheet cooling area to reduce the temp before printing the second side. So they basically don't want to preheat the paper too much, or at all, because they need the drying to always be controlled. The machine does vent a lot of heat out the back and definitely cuts down on any need for facility heat in winter. We had to add extra AC for summer.

    Hi Dan, great video and progression to new equipment. One thing to note, is the OCE devices are tanks, period! However, one thing you may or may not be aware is the OFFICIAL support from CANON ends at the end of 2024 on the ULTRA+ series machines, so parts available could become an issue at some point after that! Run all you can while you can and the machine will make you money!

      Yes, superb machines, we use to run two of these starting since 2014 (one ultra + one Titan), but Canon decided to kill OCE, in Europe the running cost is skyrocketing in the last couple of years. I switched to KM 6272P, which by-the-way it's a toy compared to OCE, but the running costs are MUCH smaller.

    Wow, I sold my print biz over 10 years ago now.... I ran Xerox and KM equipment and 5 multicolour offset machines... Big difference that I am noticing is you do all the maintenance yourself... Production digital printers in Australia are soooo expensive.. I had to have maintenance contracts on both models of digital machines as the spare parts in Australia are off the planet prices... We would have the techs out at least once a month for a major repair.... 0.07 per colour click covered the parts and the maintenance. We weren't doing the clicks you are as I could slide 500-1000 plus runs over to the Heidelberg Offsets.. BTW great channel... Makes me smile... And cringe watching print production after 10 years

    Hi Dan. For the 1070 that shut down, it's o precaution measure by the machine if the fuser belt goes outside of it side guides. There is a cutout switch at the back of the machine, just where the power cable goes into the machine. Check it out and remember to switch it on after fixing the fuser belt. Hey Dan, I like your videos. I’m a former production print tech/color specialist for dealer with KM and canon equipment. Your 1200 can be fixed for sure. I believe that was a common issue that could if it wasn’t getting its regular PMs. In my experience they ran a little dirty and if you didn’t regularly vacuum clean the process and transfer areas and toner ducts you would pay for it! but its kinda difficult to regain trust in it. The 1070 tripped a fuse and you’ll have to get into service mode and reset the fault after you replace the faulty parts. It could be one of the heat lamp or just bearings . Recommend a PM kit w
    It’s fusing belt, rollers, bearings and stuff. Message me if you wanna chat. Peace

    For that web frontend: There are a couple of relatively cheap touchscreen monitors available nowadays, coupled with a sub-$100 mini-PC (or even an Android-stick, as a web browser is enough for you) and a monitor arm to mount the combo to the wall, those make nice remote control stations. I use that setup for my laser cutters and it's really nice.

      @@justaprinter Does this management interface have some kind of API? Thought of another solution to the same problem: send push notifications to a smartphone (+ smartwatch, a simple $40 "Amazfit Bip U Pro" would do). Messages like "stacker ready to empty" or "empty stacker within xy minutes or machine will stop" but yeah if you're in the middle of a 30 minute task and you get a 45 minute advance notice you either have to remember it or you would be constantly spammed with reminders, unlike a monitor that always shows you the information and allows you to plan your own time whenever it suits your shedule.

    You can keep an eye on the Canon machines simply *adding a security camera inside* (a wired one will do the trick, not sure if a wireless cam can do it)
    Probably you can use a PoE one so you only run one cable... even you can power a led light (or use a relay to power on the light)
    Other solution can be using Octoprint on a raspberry. Good content, helps me a lot, thanks.

    You have quite a range of equipment there! The company I work for are xerox dealers and i would say the xerox Iredesse or 1000 are solid machines and I have worked on them with over 30mil on the meter and still running strong. The problem with the 800/1000 is that it's getting expensive to run and parts are hard to get when not on a service agreement. You can pick the 1000 up pretty cheap now but the iredesse is very expensive and rare to find 2nd hand. Also i would stay away from the versant range with the amount of volume you do. I consider them more high volume printers than a production press.

    Paper is getting easy to get but prices are not going down and I’ve been told it won’t go down. Last year I was buying up everything I could get because it was such a struggle to get paper. I have 4 times more paper on my floor to make sure we don’t run out of items we can’t get right away. I’ve been told that capacity is being taken away… one mill is switching over from fine paper so we will be losing a big amount and that may create issues again soon. Dan, I currently have a C2070 that is misting/leaking purple (cyan/magenta mixed?) developer/toner all throughout the machine and causing horrible image quality issues. Any insight? I've rebuilt the transfer belt entirely, including the cleaning blade, and also replaced all drums and coronas. Thanks

    U cannot contact canon for increasing the speed since the speed licence is registered on the main PCB board at the time of installation
