Wouldn’t be so bad if Portland was a normal city and would actually bother to plow, sand and salt the roads.
Hundred percent I went to nursing school in MASS. we routinely had 2 feet of snow. I had to get up and make it to clinicals but it wasn’t as hard because they were out at 4 AM plowing the roads.

Is it freezing rain there already?
So when above-freezing temps Wednesday and regular rain hits the ice sheet, how long will it take to melt that on the side streets so we can get to work? An hour or two then?

Why can't you get to work? Sounds like personal preparedness problem. I have been out to the market ,picked up supplies for those that can't or don't want to go out . All of our neighbors have been messaging each and helping out even helping each other de ice the cars. Get out and do instead of waiting.

Here in Springfield (Eugene) at 10:44 am, I'm looking to the east northeast and there's a tiny strip of blue sky, and the sun is trying to come through from the south. So it strikes me that this storm has kind of a nasty sense of humor!

What does the blue mean on the temperature maps? I noticed that Hillsboro and west metro stays blue even when it’s supposed to be above freezing and when other above freezing areas show as green. At 15:20 or so.
That map shows it to be on Wednesday not today

There are places nearby where Oregonians can't travel for another month. Same every year.
Rod mentioned Baker City at 10-below. Then, Chris mentions the gorge as though Baker City has any relationship to the gorge. Someone tell Chris that there is two mountain ranges between Baker City and the gorge.

You guys in the midwest have freezing rain on a daily? I don't think nobody likes freezing rain.
My wife is from Sweden. SHE finds Oregon ice storms to be worse and more frequent than the old country, which is at the same latitude as Alaska…..and the cold weather here has more claws because Oregon’s freezing weather is wetter & thus nastiest.
It’s not about the cold, it’s about the humidity!
