Thanks Dale ! They are great kits, they almost build themselves !! Much credit to Jim. From start to finished and weatherd took me a little over 2 months to do. Bearing in mind I work full time doing 12 hour shifts mostly unsocial hours. Enjoy your G6 you have picked probably the best range of kits on the market for dipping your toe in to O gauge ! hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed mine, the instructions and fit of the parts are second to none !!

@@rodfearnley2486 I'm so pleased that the pictures have helped you along Rod. I added a water scoop casting to my tender, this wasn't part of the kit. The loco itself isn't much harder, just make sure you have the running plate absolutely square before you solder on the boiler. A good tip is just to tack with solder and check it's all square before seam soldering everything. Have fun, Steph
Nice build, you did a very nice job on that, very clean construction. I'll be looking to getthe J15 or D32 4-4-0 that Jim offers. Just getting back into O, tried HO, just doesn't seem right without the size of O :) Nothing like building your own rolling stock too !

Very nice build indeed! Very clean soldering and everything is perfectly square. I do also like the layout at the end, which club is this? Was the dummy inside motion included in the kit as well? And weren't the inside of the frames and inside motion red on the real ones?, or was that on other companies of the big four but not on the LNER? I bought several kits frim Jim, and started on a couple of the wagons, they build very well with generaly a good fit. Only on the Lowmac (GWR Loriot M) the top deck didn't have the etched groove for the bends at the ends in the right place, I fiddled the side frame rails to make them fit to the place the bends were, otherwise an easy build. So I look forward to start on my O2 from him, but in the meanwhile I'm torturing myself with a clasp brake 16 ton mineral from DJ Parkins, but those kits build very well too, it's just the sheer amount of detail that makes it an endeavour to build.

Yes, the kit includes the inside motion, the only extras I added were sprung buffers, turned handrails and injectors under the cab floor. Inside the frames......there has been much discussion in our club about red inside of frames and the general opinion is that during service they were painted black and painting them red only started to appear on steam locos once they entered preservation, so I never paint the inside of frames red. The layout is our club layout, Carlisle and District O Gauge Group. It's a lovely layout based on the Great Central. Thanks again and happy modelling 😉
AceBeer100 Thank you very much indeed, you are very kind ! I only added a few small extra details to it. I used turned brass handrail knobs from slaters instead of the brass split pins in the kit. Also bodged up a pair of injectors behind the cab steps and used a lubricator box from Laurie Griffin on the right hand running board and made some pipe runs to the smoke box, other than that as the kit comes, more or less. The only slight discrepancy in the build is the holes for the handrail along the boiler were higher one side than the other, just a case of fill with solder sand flush then re-drill, otherwise a pleasure to build.
Did you fit a flywheel to the motor? How did you isolate electrically the engine and tender as you used the " American system" of pickup? How many wagons can it pull? This is a very informative video on loco construction please do more. Thanks.
Hi, thanks ! Yes I soldered a flywheel to the motor shaft, it really does help with slow running. Isolation is achieved by using copper clad strip as a drawbar, just make sure you cut the copper halfway to break the circuit. You could use plastic strip, but I find that the copper clad strip gives more stability and strength. I have actually added plunger pickups to the loco and tender since the build for more reliable electrical pickup. Due to the added weight in the loco, it will happily pull a rake of 8 Heljan mk1 carriages, or 25 or so wagons, it is only traction that is the limiting factor, not the power of the motor.
Nice to see an etched kit constructed by someone who can solder properly. Most leave gobs and blobs and never clean up properly. Kudos!
