Guitarists from the 90's knew how to use effects ,delays , reverbs to make this huge wall of sound , The Edge , John Squire, Andy Bell from Ride , Mcabe is a whole other level
They must have grown up listening to Robin Guthrie! Neon wilderness was one of my faves on UH. It sounded like all the weird delayed guitar in my head!
You gotta love McCabe. I would give anything to have a jam with this guy. One of my biggest inspirations to play guitar. Imo he is right up there with Knopfler, Gilmour and Frusciante. But he is so fucking underrated, he never gets a mention. Even Steve Rothery from Marillion is more popular. I just wish that these guys could go back and work on some stuff again. Just like they did in the old days. Their chemistry is unbeaten to this day, speaking for any genre. The dynamics.. They go from dropping a needle to rocking the everest within seconds. Just unbelievable. I always enjoy how clear they devided the channels, creating an atmosphere that is out of this world. Just listen to their studio records and notice the different plateaus they've created for every instrument, for every sound. It is just breathtaking, that's what it is. The Verve forever and forever the Verve.
Henry Mick Totally agree, he's criminally underrated. Although here I actually feel sorry for Simon Tong; Nick's guitar is so loud you can't hear a single note or chord he plays,
McCabe's guitar in the climax gives me chills. If they had continued after Urban Hymns I have to wonder if he'd be mentioned in the same vein as Greenwood and Frusciante for his sonic expressiveness.
Weeping Willow is one of my favorite songs of all time and for some reason this concert looks so special. What an experience is must have been to be there. Unreal
Ashcroft(as talented as he is) just didn’t realize how lucky he was. To have a guitarist like McCabe and a bass player like Jones… shame it all went to waste
Yeah, and it really is a pain to think about. Ah well, at least we’re left with gems like these. I know it’s silly but sometimes I imagine they stayed together and are still making mad music in some corner of the cosmos.
The two most underrated guitarists in Rock and Roll. Nick McCabe. And William Reid (Jesus and Mary Chain). McCabe is other worldly. Where do those sounds come from. Landscapes. Haunting. Massive. I can never find the right words to describe this brilliant musician's guitar playing. Perhaps the words don't exist. He needs to be experienced not described. William Reid often uses his guitar like a weapon. He threatens with it. His guitar is never in a good mood. The results come out of the stacks with all the aggression of a war. Two of the greatest Rock and Roll guitarists in the game. They don't sound like anyone else. And nobody sounds like them.
Man, Nick McCabe is such a great guitarist!!! Hope Verve will make new music again soon! They'd rule the world! Too much talent, not to create more amazing music together.
apart from the original Smashing Pumpkins, the Verve are the one band I wish I'd got to see live... ah well, I had a good run of gigs as a younger man and can't have it all! But if they ever do get the band back together I'll be there with bells on.
The Verve really done it for me. I remember all the music from the 90s, but it was only till mid 30s and my 40s that I appreciated this period of music. I grew up to classic rock and the 80s which rocked. But some of this music and bands from the 90s really stood out to me especially the Verve. I did see Oasis play live thks to a win from a Molson Canadian playing a game back just before Oasis split up. The Verve on the other hand, I mean these guys were mint 🤘Their sound was like no other and I’d wish they’d get back together, well we’d always hope the Gallagher brothers would get back together, now let’s hope the Verve Get Back Together, it’s not late to go back out and make some music and let all of us to relive all that beautiful music that you guys have played and touched all of our hearts! Enough of rant good night to all ✌️
The best video available on UA-cam in my opinion. Wipping willow is my favorite song from so many I've know from so many musicians from different countries I've listened to. I know it sounds silly but ain't no such a person good enough nowadays for me to talk to. Yeah, definitely superb.
The Combination of Nick's Magical Guitar Riffs and Richard's Enchantinh Voice is Simply Amazing... I wish the would come to South America to see them LIVE
*Weeping Willow The Verve When morning breaks We hide our eyes and our love's aching Nothing's strange It was in our hands from 6 to 10 It slipped right out again There'll be no better time There'll be no better way There'll be no better day to save me Save me Yeah, save me I hope you see like I see I hope you see what I see I hope you feel like I feel And the world don't stop There is no time for cracking up Believe me friend 'Cause when freedom comes I'll be long gone You know it has to end There'll be no better time There'll be no better way There'll be no better day to save me Save me Yeah, save me Yeah, save me I hope..*

Henry Mick well said and completely agree! I’d give anything to jam w him.
Totally agree. McCabe’s a beauty, amazing sound, especially evident on Weeping Willow which is by far my favourite The Verve tune...
Henry Mick nb

gonna have to disagree sorry. He’s absolute shite compared to Frusicante. Half the time you can barely hear his guitar and it sounds really clumsy
McCabe's guitar in the climax gives me chills. If they had continued after Urban Hymns I have to wonder if he'd be mentioned in the same vein as Greenwood and Frusciante for his sonic expressiveness.
Yep, the commenters were right
What the hell is Mcabe doing with that guitar?!
It's other-worldly
Weeping Willow..... one of the best songs I've ever heard. Dunno why, don't care why, just is, by any band for me.
You and me both, bud
There's something about it, right?
@@backfru Oh yeah, this one and Velvet Morning just are sublime.
Totally special song. 🤗
Urban Hymns was a masterpiece. 🔥
And this track was the hidden gem. 💎
Same here 🙌
i knew i was seeing something special when i caught their gig on the SECOND stage at lollapalooza... ; )
lucky you....i was at lollapalooza and oblivious of Verve at the time....

Weeping Willow is 1 I want played at my funeral, which I hope isn't too soon. Is a very cool tune.
I hope you're still alive ... I mean , amazing song, but pls
what on earth is McCabe doing?!?!?! it's just so intense and beautiful along with Richard Ashcroft's voice.
Sublime
@@daniel-jm3jwNot of this earth friend. That is a guitarist's lunacy shooting waves at a mystic vocalist for him to amplify
He is a genius.. thats why

Weeping Willow sets my skin on 🔥
Masterpiece on all levels ❣️
Verve were the best Brit band of that era. Stone 🌹 passed the baton on to them. 🤜💥🤛
Couldn't disagree with that 👍
You can get just totally lost listening to this. Time stops. I am so grateful for the experience. The Verve .....
Love to go back to the wonderful 90's.. :-)

Weeping willow is the best of the verve
Went to see The Black Ships and spent the whole concert mesmerised by McCabe and Jones.

If Wipping Willow is your favourite, I'd not like to see how much attention you give to a song you don't like.
Truly this is music.......without recognizing that this isn't their "this is music "
El final de los himnos urbanos excelente album de una década dorada
Happy New year cool people ! x Im buying a The Verve Tshirt somehow ! how cool in Summer 2023??!x
Neon Wilderness is one of my favourite songs ever, it takes me back to a certain time in my life and brings with it all those feelings from the past.

These were the last great rock n roll bands they just do not make them like this now
weeping willow reminded me of the dying of the light without the capo :D or its the other way around
James Calalo damn same
James Calalo Same(ish) chords.
Amazing theory, weeping willow and dying of the light are both within my all time top 10 songs, they have such marvelous inherent nostalgia
Both incredible songs
Wow!! Impossível não se arrepiar.

Lo hermoso de weeping willow es cuando dicen Beside me!!! la de esta versión es desabrida, carece de magia.

Absolutely fucking superb, Makes his new single "surprised by the joy" sound even more shite if that's possible.
Right 🐄

Think of it like a magnet. The positive charges can coexist initially, but eventually they repel one and other. All great bands end up this way.
