dont listen to this tutorial. all of them follow the same path of buying this capture card and using OBS of all things to do it. this is the only way to hook up a switch to a laptop sure, but everyone fails to mention how garbage it looks. just get a TV or monitor. sure its expensive but it beats a crappy quality playback at 20fps

If the sound doesn’t work, what I did was go to my laptop settings, go to sound, go to where it said microphone privacy settings, and flipped the microphone access ON and I could hear sound!

i know how to get sound working: first you click the 3 vertical dots right next to the video capture device( the tab that should be pen is called audio mixer) then click advanced audio properties then you will see a little box that says monitor off change it to monitor and ouptut

It's not Nintedo's fault. It's because you're using an adapter and the Laptop's HDMI port is an out one, while TVs have an in one.

it wont work cuz the hdmi port on the laptop is an output port, not a input one like TVs have so that why u need this adapter

You do. The hdmi things on laptops are actually outputs, I tried it but yeah it's really meant to display the laptop's screen and not to get screens to display

on obs studio i connected my usb hdmi video capture card to switch to my pc. i watched my recording and i heared the games sounds but i cant hear my self talking why???
You need to add a new source for your microphone if you want to hear yourself talk. I'm guessing its because you want to record your gameplay...The new source will capture your audio when you are recording, not quite sure about streaming...Hope that helped

most likely yes but i recomend just buying a monitor for this because there is a delay, you can also buy a cheap monitor for around 50-70$

What kind of dongle?
You have to make sure that it is actually a video capture card. A normal HDMI to USB C adapter won't work, as that is only for HDMI output (e.g. showing your laptop screen on your TV). Only a capture card will turn the HDMI input (from the switch) signal into something your laptop can deal with through USB C
i'm currently already using a capture card to mirror switch onto my gaming laptop. do you know of a way to use the laptop kb&m?
To play nintendo switch keyboard and mouse, you need a specific adaptor. I got mine from amazon
