Thank you much love and God bless you. I am in the same boat due to an accident with a drunk driver but keep up the hard work you've inspired me. Thank you
You show how really hard it is just to do things I take for granted. I just came across your video because I am dealing with a herniated c5-c6. Pray you continue to thrive and never give up.
Bless you Rachelle, I love that you're video isn't smooth and easy looking, because that's the reality for most people, something falling, some noise coming from somewhere, a lot of struggle, real life, Thank You.
Thanks for sharing your method. I always have trouble getting the board out from under me but you do it very gracefully - and yet your beautiful dogs are so unimpressed.
fantastic. thanks!! iam a c-3 incomplete since october due to a severe cervical stenosis from being a t-8 para complete. Once i get this color off i hope to transfer to bed again if i can strengthen my shoulers as i have bilateral rotator cuff tears. your video was a great inspiration. really happy and proud of your accomplishments. go girl!!
Hi Rachel, you do an excellent job and thank you for sharing. I am a C5, six, seven quad since 1979 and I can’t transfer as well as you. Again, thanks for sharing
You are amazing and I so appreciate this video because I am not a quadriplegic but there are times I feel like one, although I know I am luckier than most, because I came upon my injury quite by accident, as most injuries like this are... who would seriously ask for this way to live? But I am more fortunate than most because I have the financial means to pay help and lucky enough to have a family who is willing to fight for me and my best interests, my dad and children are very supportive of me and my situation, which is Carbon monoxide poisoning which damaged my brain stem making it almost impossible, so far, for me to walk, I added so far because I have not given up on that yet, there is a new to me therapist who firmly believes that I can get walk again and my muscles need re education and memory stimulation because it has been "sleeping since 2004! So this video of you transferring your self into bed gives me a lot of hope, so again I say thank you for posting this so hopefully one day I can do the same myself !
Man. That makes me exhausted just watching you! Mad props. As a person with limited arm movement (cant straighten my arms, and they have little strength), I would be so scared of falling to the floor, or getting wedged in a position where i couldn't get back up.
Great job!, keep that pretty smile, positive attitude brings you a long way. I am wheelchair bound. But have good upper body. You have it down very good! Also, I have no idea why you have any thumbs down. Because there is nothing bad about your video. It will help all quads out there. shame on those who put thumbs down.
I believe it IS different every time... Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to make this informative video. So cool that you have a transfer board that works (pretty well, at least!) for you. You have beautiful spirit, thank you again.

I have a difficult time transferring so I told my husband to make me a transfer board so I could try to see if it would be easier so far it has worked from bed to wheelchair and to the. Portable toilet. Thursday I’ll see how it will work for me from wheelchair to the car. So far it has made things easier .
you did great thank for this video I am C5 like you and I have question for you are you able to push your arm or just pull ? because I can not make pushing and transfer . thank you
I learned some techniques from your post. Do you have a video transferring from your bed to wheelchair since your bed is a not firm and lower from your chair? Thanks 😊 🙏
Rachelle, I’m a T3,4,5 para son you know I’m close I have better control with my hands at least, I have found it easier to back up to the bed instead of forwards like you are. An I’m also able to slide the board under myself with one hand but I just lean to the left to get it under me. I did have a bar mounted to be bed for better ability to transfer push myself over on the bed but I grab both arms under the knees and just lay back and it brings both legs on the bed at the same time. I know different training at different centers it helpe for me. My skin on my bottom just woe out after 25 years and the doctor finally made me use a hoyer but it owes take away a lot of my independence but when I travel I still do it the same old way I was trained. I’m proud of you if you need any advice you know how to contact me.
Hi Rachelle I too am c5/6 1974 at the age of 14 I had a swimming accident. If there's any tips I could help you with... With your transfer I don't know if you can but if you keep your chair locked and close by scooping up one leg and falling back the 2nd leg follows and you can grap and swing the two together. You land on your side and pull yourself straight. Less strain. (Just make sure your knees don't come down hitting you in the head) And for the record - I myself have had many burns most from my heater :(
i am c5/7 i have a little more tricept. i use a board it is plexiglass, never need to worry about splinters - been using it for 39 years. when need a new one go to a glazer.
I was thinking maybe if u could add like leather straps to your leg area..with kind of Where they join is a hole so u can slide ur arms in the leather straps to pull ur legs onto the bed easier
You have wonderful power beautiful lady :) and i like your video. I am student(physiotherapist) and very important for me this video. I hope you will very happy🍀🌺(sorry about my english i can't write true actually😅)
I'm in the process of bringing my fiance home from rehab. He suffered a brain injury last September and still is not walking. Something like this to transfer him from bed to his tilt and space would probably work.
You seem to have great upper body mobility in your torso. Many C5s and C6s struggle with balance in that area (especially balancing on one hand). Have you always been awesome at that or has that taken some therapy &/or exercising?
Ginia Maxwell it certainly wasn't always like that. I did get a tiny bit of triceps back which helps. But I have absolutely no core control. I'm just good at using my arms to compensate
You're so strong! Your legs seem really tight though. They seem to make it more difficult. How do you keep your balance so well with them as they spasmed??
Great job girl. There's a easier way to do that. I use a slide board to get in and out of my car but I can transfer in and out of bed without one I'll do a video to show you how I do it. I'm a C5
Spasms are really common with a spinal cord injury. It's involuntary movement that happens when you get out of your regular sitting position. Happens to a lot of people when they wake up in the morning after being in one position all night. Super annoying but in my case they don't get in the way of my daily living so I like the muscle work out
Wow, I honestly thought it would 'be easier' I guess. Thank you for sharing. My heart breaks for your struggle, surely we can make the world an easier place. How should people treat you out of the house? Like, is it rude to rush in and help or should we ask if you need help with things?
Never rush to help. It makes me soooo uncomfortable. In a perfect world no one would ever ask me if I need help. Imagine if someone asked you if you need help like every day..for years. But that's just me. I'd rather ask for help when I need it
hi my friend, im c5 and have a big trouble with dipers! do you use diper or catheter? and how do u manage it? do u use catheter on yiur own or some body do it for you? whould u plz help me
Great video! My husband is a T5/6 para since the age of 17, but unfortunately after 30 years of being pretty independent, further injury and illness means he's starting to have trouble transferring on his own. He gets onto the bed himself with difficulty, but can't get his legs onto the bed himself anymore. Big adjustments are ahead, with a power chair on the way, and a lift likely in the near future. Do what you can to stay strong for as long as possible! 💜
