  • On this episode I'll discuss some things I have learned, good and bad, after boosting my car. Only you can make the decision in the end.
    SPOILER ALERT! Absolutely do NOT go into debt to make your car faster - that's just stupid. Oh, and I would go with a manual-swap first. See why I say this by watching the video...

    I think the Elate/m112 Supercharger route was the best bang for the buck. It's enough power for me and the turbo route would've cost more time and money like you said. Even though I have a backup tranny, I'm careful not to thrash it too often.
    And yea, top end wot pull is insane! I'm easily into the triple digits if I'm not paying attention. And no squeaky belt :)

    Very interesting! I upgraded my turbo and also feel the same way about the testing and the harder manual shifting, it’s a cool challenge for sure!!! Thanks

    Great video Im still saving up for a transmission for my 1998 gs 400 I have the spectra blue mica but I really want the imperial jade color, and what your thoughts on the 430 vs 400 are there any real differences

      Not worth switching in my opinion. That blue is awesome! Keep it.

    Of topic. I would love to hear about MPG's as you daily drive it.
    I did some calculation and it cost about the same if you drive a truck on regular gas. 19mpg on 93 in my gs400 vs 16mpg on 87 in my Tundra.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому +5

      It’s 18.75mpg. Exactly the same as before! I found this to be quite odd. It may have something to do with tuning my fuel trims. A lot of people skip that part and just tune open loop.

    I believe the 650 is the transmission it also comes in the LS430. I don't know if there's a manual swap for that car but if there's not how would you beef up the transmission exactly? If I get a GS I would definitely manual swap but I am curious if that was not an option and I wanted to supercharge the car what would I need to do to the transmission so it would survive my lead foot?

      Check out my stage 1 and stage 2 transmission vids. Consider shimming the accumulators as well.

    did u notice the rattle sound from transmision epecialy at neutral caused by light weight flyeweel?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому

      Yep. I believe it’s the LWFW and T56-style slave combo. It only happens on mine with the AC on. 🤔

    I've been thinking about doing this to my GS300. Rather than go for a turbo setup I thought about a supercharger instead. Plus I like the sound of a supercharger. But the big question is who supplies the right engine for the 2JZGE engine?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому

      Did you mean “adapter” instead of “engine?” I’m not sure. But I think a Procharger set up might be a good option on the 2JZ. Surely someone has a fish bracket for it?

    • @ssjdavid
      @ssjdavid Рік тому +1

      I don’t think I seen one person super charge a 2jz. Do it and let us know how terrible it is when you change to turbo

    I'd love to go forced induction like you, but not only is cost a huge factor, I want to keep an automatic transmission which with the 1uz is hard to keep as seamless and dailyable as the stock trans. for my gs I think I'm going to go with a wet nitrous kit instead just for the simplicity and the cost.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому +1

      Totally get it. You’re smart because that AT can’t handle much - you would have to strengthen it.

      @@ForwardMomentum I appreciate you being active in the comments. I love your vids and def have used a few of them thus far. I was planning on doing a-lot of what you did to your auto, except I want to do accumulator shims and a high stall converter if Lextreme still makes them.

    How much power can I expect with the super charger and Intercooler? My 99 LS400 is gonna be ready next summer.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  11 місяців тому +1

      Depends on a lot of things. Supercharger type, pulley size, tune, other supporting mods, etc. There are online calculators to help determine HP/TQ increase by psi. A general rule is +60-75HP at 5-6psi on the 1UZ VVTi.

    Any plans on putting the GS on the dyno?

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому +2

      My stage 2 clutch can’t hold, so I’ll be putting in a stage 3 6-puck soon. Then I’m going to IC it in spring. After that I may dyno it. I expect 315-325whp as it sits now.

    My biggest issue with going turbo is dealing with the exhaust manifolds... I don't have your videos to show me 😂 I love your videos btw once I'm done building my house this is next on my list.

    I feel like the best bang for buck uz to boost is the 92-97 with the thicker rods, big single turbo u can almost see 2jz power.

    • @ForwardMomentum
      @ForwardMomentum  Рік тому +4

      It’s not a bad idea. However, these “thin rods” will take more than people think, when done properly. My buddy is at 420HP (crank) on a stock bottom end at 9psi. That’s plenty of power to get in trouble with, but getting to 500HP crank is a risky endeavor.

    • @DanWeinbrand
      @DanWeinbrand Рік тому

      Thick rods are 90-94* UZ from an LS400 or 91-95* UZ from an sc400. Also same boost for boost a UZ will more power than a 2JZ...not "almost 2JZ Power"....UZ will make more than a 2JZ. 4L v8 vs. 3L I6...
