How To: Repairing a Broken Balance Staff on Hamilton 1937
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 чер 2024
- Hamilton watch company is an American company founded 1892 in Lancaster Pennsylvania, USA.
This particular watch movement belongs to a pocket watch. The movement is equipped with 17 jewels. That's why the calibre number is 917. There were also high grade movements equipped with 21 (calibre 921) or 23 (calibre 923) jewels. These were mostly used in gold pocket watches.
This particular movement is so to say the bread and butter movement. It was used in pocket watches which were mostly gold plated. Someone has put this movement in a wristwatch case with a pilot dial. Which is really beautiful. This movement is from 1937-1938. The case is modern and house this movement beautifully.
It has a broken balance staff. It was not easy to find a replacement. The first balance staff I ordered was the wrong size and not useable, the second one finally worked.
Enjoy the video 😊

Another great video: thank you so much. The Nato strap looks cool, but it makes the beauty of the movement less visible, which is a pity.
Thank you for watching ☺️
Nice catch on the stray lint
Lovely work, well done. Nice to have no commentary when none needed, not like some people who just cannot shut up.
I can't also listen to channel with endless comments. Hopefully this channel will be a good alternative to people like us. Thank you for watching Fred 😊
Thank you for another great video mate. I enjoyed every second. Please keep it coming.
That's the plan ☺️
Thank you so much for watching
Nice! I still have my great grandfather Hamilton 912 pocket watch from 1932. Still very clean on the inside and looks very close to that one. Runs very well, too. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for watching 😊
Just subscribed really like it when we don't have to hear commentary.
Just show how you bring these beautiful time pieces back to life.
You do beautiful work.
Thank you for watching and subscription Allan ☺️
Wow, so refreshing, congrats on all the new equipment too.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate your kind words 😊
Love the orange nato with the simple black dial; super legible!
It look pretty good. Thanks for watching ☺️
Really nice to see one of these done with a vintage movement instead of the modern 6497👍👍
I agree ☺️ On top of that I love this old American movements. They have something special. Thank you so much for watching 😊
@@MagicWatchmaking I totally agree; the early American movements could stand up to the finest Swiss movements when it came to build quality and finishing
wow, what a beautiful watch for its age. That watch has had a good owner. Well done!
Thank you kindly 😊
That's a really nice watch! It never occured to me to put a pocket match movement in a wrist watch case, but the end result works. Bonus for the Flieger A dial too
Truly nice movement and with this Flieger dial... very nice 😊 Thanks for watching, Alan
Really magic. And beautiful
Thank you so much for supporting my channel ☺️
Odd hands? I think they are perfect!
Hands didn’t show the time exactly. Thank you for watching 😊
Beautiful movement and nice work on the balance. Happy New Year.

Thank you! Cheers!
It's really easy to forget how small these parts actually are with your excellent magnification.
I appreciate your kind words. Thank you for watching ☺️
Hello good change staff bravo
Thank you 😊
Had to have been an officers watch at the time. Really kept up clean.
Truly nice watch. Thank you for watching ☺️
Your welcome ❤
Wonderful job, but not my choice of band!
The owner requested an orange nato strap 🫣
Thank you for watching ☺️
Ít is true that GOD has given each of us a gift and connection in life. I can’t do this job other than raising chickens and I love my job. Thank you for sharing ❤️👍
Yeah, the gift is learning. Learning to do things you can't already do. What a shame for you to waste such a gift from God himself.
Thanks for watching. Hard to learn but doable ☺️
@@crookedtool . Actually, I’m using transliteration into English to express what I want to say. The translation is not CORRECT so you misunderstood me. What I mean is TALENT or SKILLS…not what you think and say. I’m so sorry. 🤝
as often with these mvts in wristwatches as they don't have a schocksystem...amazing job. Pretty yricky how you removed the balance spring...I just stay away from that for now...😀
That's correct... there is nothing to absorb shock. Thank you for watching ☺️
Nice restoration, would love to know where the case was sourced to work with this movement.
I don’t know where the case from. It’s not my watch. But on eBay you can find cases for this particular movement.
Watch case looks brand new; modern.....
Old movement, new case. Thank you for watching ☺️
Isn't risky to hammer down the double roller, i nover seen someone hammer down just hard pushed with the stakes, or this type of movement required hammering down ? I mean if the double roller craks you'll develop beat error . I'm not criticising just curious. Great work btw😁
Smart nocks are not hammering 😉
Thank you for watching and kind words. I appreciate it ☺️
Have a great day
You can buy one just like it on E-Bay for just under $1000. The case is about $400. This watch looks a tad too good to be from the 1940’s. Nice watch though. Great idea.
Thanks for sharing
This movement was put in a new case? The back is clear?
Yes! New case + old movement. You find the story in the description.
Thank you so much for watching ☺️
how can that staff get damaged? with age or by dropping the watch?
Old movements do not have any shock absorbers like modern movement. This particular watch falls down 😌 Thank you for watching 😊
Donde se puede mandar un reloj para restaurar?
I don’t offer any customer related services.
Thank you so much for watching ☺️
A 1937 watch with a saphire back? Are you kidding me?
As described the movement is from this time period. This movement is a pocket watch movement in modern wristwatch case.
Thank you so much for watching ☺️
Have a great day
@@MagicWatchmaking OK, I was just irritated.
Tree-mendous!!
Thank you ☺️
Stoning
Thank you ☺️
You should have changed the main spring
Why? Any reason for that?
