    I honestly don't understand how all these prequel scripts miss - or really just forget - the fact that Kirk's dad was killed by Kodos the Executioner when Jim and Sam were kids, and they were among the survivors of the disaster.

    It was a great idea. Would have been much better than the whole timeline change stuff. This I would have watched at the theater!

    I think it would've been stupendous! The original cast did NOT have a good reason for opposing it-just worrying about their own careers. I don't blame them, but that is not a good, creative reason for trying to squelch it. I think Bennet should've kept the whole idea under wraps, hidden from the original cast, got it all made, then sprung it on the public by surprise.

    I KNEW! I KNEW!!! It was mentioned at the Star Trek IV conventions that went around with Lenard Nimoy. They mentioned it there...but then no one ever talked about it again.

    It should be noted that Gene was notorious of hating anything Star Trek that wasn't anything he had put his hands on.
    He hated Wrath of Khan, and thank fuck he died before he could try and stop The Undiscovered Country from happening.
    The man nearly killed Star Trek with his godawful S1 and S2 of TNG because he couldn't stop living in the past.
    Honestly I can understand Walter Koenig's arguments against it, he had gotten the shaft in regards to The Animated Series after all, replaced by an alien and not told by ANYONE until Gene told him, in front of everyone, at a fucking convention. Koenig has first-hand experience of being fucked by creations like this, which ironically, was thanks to Gene the fucker himself.

      Its why DS9 was better than TNG. Finally people could have personal conflicts between them.

    To sooth fragile egos, they could have created more backstories for the other casts members. We could have seen Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, and Scotty (possibly even Nurse Chaple) all in their academy days.

    I have heard of some of these concepts before and it would have been an interesting movie but ultimately I’m glad we got the Star Trek six that we did

    Didn't Spock graduate before Kirk?

    • @STho205
      @STho205 2 роки тому +1

      Assuming fleet graduation at 22 and Kirk is 35 stated in TOS...then he'd been in service for over a decade and Spock is only known to be on Enterprise as a science officer about a decade before...
      So they could have graduated together or been as much as 4 years apart.
      However, the idea they were all muppet babies together in school is pretty childish writing.

    This is a good day to do an "Academy". It may not have been the right season then. Try it now.

    This new series screwed up the story line
    Kirk met Spock when he took over command of the Enterprise

    • @jefferydraper4019
      @jefferydraper4019 Рік тому

      Exactly. They never knew each other until after Kirk took command from Pike. There is so much given to us and ignored from even the original series that would have made great Academy and prequel movies.

    As an original Trekkie I think it would have been an awesome movie.

  • @MrKpsuk84

    The Constitution Class Enterprise would already have been in service during Kirk's academy days so even though it hadn't been created until the early 2000s that 'old' Enterprise would presumably have been the refitted NX01

    • @jefferydraper4019
      @jefferydraper4019 Рік тому

      It seems the producers ignored exactly how old the Enterprise (1701) really was. Pike was the second commander after Robert April being the plank-holder on at least one 5 year mission previously. Plus Spock would already have been through the academy before Kirk. I never had the impression Kirk and Spock knew each other before Kirk took command after Pike. Finnegan, Ruth, Carol Marcus, The Farragut, Captain Garrovick, The Tarsus Colony...were all ignored by this concept.

    I think they dodged a bullet here. I never understood the fascination with prequels. Leave that to the imagination of the viewer. Had this been made, there would have been no STV or VI. Star Trek would basically have become a soap opera in '89 rather than 09. Roddenberry was right, as usual. The two shows he created -- TOS and TNG -- are unquestionably more popular than any spin offs. Lots of great TNG episodes made while Roddenberry was still in charge, including Measure of a Man.

    In the various movies....has anyone asked why the Golden Gate Bridge survived the Eugenics and global thermonuclear WW3. Seems like San Fran and the major naval anchorage would be a 1st strike target.

    This one is fascinating because I think VI was a great way for the original film to go out but the prequel film sounds like a good idea and kinda what I thought 2009 was when I first heard of it. I can't blame the original cast not being fond of it and I wish there was more of the secondary four characters in the original films.
    It is fascinating how many things in this would be echoed in later stories. The prequel Enterprise looks a lot like NX-01!

      It’s the NX-01!!!
      They totally should’ve had a beat up old training ship version of the NX-01 in the ‘09 film. But it didn’t fit with the big Hollywood blockbuster direction they wanted to take the movie, sadly. Then again it’d probably be in a museum rather than used as a training ship, so never mind, I guess.

    No Scotty, Sulu. Uhura and Chekov sounds like the old US. Keep the minorities in but without any real contribuition to the event. I watch the new Star Trek movies and realise that old is gold, but I do feel that the fringe characters really did get screwed big time. Their characters were pretty much left in the 60s.

      Into Darkness is a good movie.
      Beyond is also a good movie - especially Beyond.
      Don't get why people hate on them.
      At least they aren't the horrendous Star Wars sequel trilogy . . .

    • @javierszapari5836

      @@Zeithri i like Into darkness, Beyond was boring for me, but the problem is that Abrams didn't respect certain things that are esentials on Star Trek myth, the did the same with Star Wars. He just added bad fan service.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 2 роки тому

      Beyond is a ridiculously thin plot based on a dozen chance happenings coming together... the major characters (like the marooned mutant castaways) are not in position to know about.
      The decades ago crashed ship is flying again because Scotty is awesomeness. Hot Fuzz, Shawn syndrome of the writer, coincidentally playing Scotty.
      The Nebula is close enough to a star base, contacted by a woman rescued from an escape pod...but Starfleet has no knowledge of the area.
      The drone attack cuts right through the shields or did we forget to turn them on again...
      Why didn't the mutant starfleet officers escape in the attack and bording drones....or fix their ship themselves decades ago.
      Trek into Darkness...is just a butchery or Wrath of Khan using name dropping, fan service and tribble blood.
      Nemesis makes sense compared to the three Fast and Furious treks.
