you should try to comb it with a very wide tooth comb after you have a shower (After using some sort of hair moisturiser or hair smoothing cream to make it easier to comb) My hair is shoulder length though, so if yours is long, I understand the struggle especially when my mum was too busy to brush it for me (and yes I was 16, a bit too old for my mum to be doing my hair for me every day...)
I've broken a few paddle brushes while brushing my hair after a shower. I can get insane knots because my hair is curly so I'll only brush it when it's still wet after a shower. It's also very long to the point that if I want to change position when laying in bed I have to move my hair out from under my body or I'll just hurt/trap myself.
Also, Claud, layers are key to avoid the triangle hair with curly hair. When I was younger my mom (a certified hairdresser) took thinners (or something like that. Imagine a pair of scissors but one blade is replaced with a comb) and thinned out my hair so it wouldn't be as poofy or big. It wasn't as dramatic or traumatic as someone shaving parts of your head.

I am also a half-Asian with curly hair, even curlier than Claudia's, and can confirm that I do NOT brush my hair. It is a very bad idea for curly hair, particularly if you brush it while dry. I have also always felt like my hair can get pyramid shaped as well, but I genuinely cannot remember if anyone actually ever told me that or it's just an impression I developed on my own.

I only brush my hair when it’s wet. If it’s dry and I need to style it, I spray it with a bit of water and use a comb because it is so thick and curly. I used to hate my hair so much because it had never been cut and it was severely damaged but in the past couple of years, since cutting it for the first time, I’ve learned to love it.

See, in the south (of the us) it is totally okay to ask really personal questions like "why are you in a wheelchair" or "how come you dress like that". It's totally normal to go to the store and get questions. You get used to it though to where it's weird to go north and no one speaks to you in public🤣

Dude I rarely brush my hair. I need to, like at night before I go to sleep, because I can get terrible rats nests if I thrash around too much. But my hair is very sensitive, I have to use specific products for it to not be frizzy, and if it air dries it has a really pretty natural wave that I like. If I do any brushing after it's dried, it can static out and then I have to straighten it or put it up in a ponytail. Products like Argon oil can help, but if I put too much in my hair looks greasy.

I totally understand Claudia about the big hair thing. I have thick, wavy hair and I hate anything that adds volume...I have it thinned out instead.
