Augustus is *so* focused on food (especially chocolate), that he doesn't realize he's a golden ticket winner until he literally tastes it in his mouth!
The kid who played Augustus was fantastic, especially because he did such a great performance without being able to actually speak English. He had to learn English for this film.

Charlie: Yes, please. 🙂 Augustus(then pulling it back, scoffing): Then you should’ve gotten yourself some. 😏 He may not be as bad as the others, but he’s not as completely good as Charlie either(maybe at least in the 2nd spot on the good child meter, perhaps). The 2005 movie isn't a remake of the 1970s movie, they're both adaptations of the book. And i'd say you have their characterizations backwards. In the 70s movie, Augustus is just a normal kid who happens to like eating. In the 2005 movie, Augustus likes eating yes, but his main character trait is his greed, he refuses to share the chocolate bar with charlie, and leads him to his demise by impulsively taking everything in sight. The way he pushes through the other kids to introduce himself to Wonka also shows he has a bit of a ego, making his humiliating defeat taking him down a peg in a way.
