My role model when it comes to my sobriety is my father. I am 34 and he has 40 years of sobriety so I never knew him as a drunk but I definitely got the gene from him. He showed me AA but most importantly my mom and him kicked me out of their house to live in my car as a homeless vet which pushed me over the edge to get help. I can't live without my family. It has been almost 6 months and he said he won't take me completely seriously until I hit that year mark which may sound harsh to some, but it motivates me one day at a time. He does not want me to compare myself to him and he showed me that you can be sober and still have fun.

I appreciate any and all that share their thoughts or story…just to touch on the dementia (with an alcoholic) I learned (and this is experiencing this with a loved one) that they go through an alcoholic dementia and also WET BRAIN never knew this basically the alcohol when the liver can no longer do what it’s suppose to is toxic that goes throughout the body and to the brain…our son experienced horrific hallucinations right in front of us and a crisis team that was trying to help him…I just wanted to share this…
