I was one of the people who HAD to wash their hair everyday because how greasy and aesthetically bad looking it got. I've been now one month washing my hair every other day (One day yes, the other no, etc (sorry for my english)) and I have to say it's slowly making a difference, my scalp is slowly not producing the same amount of oils. Next week I start college so I'm definitelly gonna try the dry shampoo now and "educate" my hair from such autodestructing behaviour bacause I was REALLY tired of it (my hair was super dry that I couldn't even pass my hand through it but it also got super greasy and all the time it required to wake up earlier to wash and style the hair EVERYDAY is a pain in the ass) so if you are reading this and go through the same, give it a try to not wash your hair everyday, I chose vacation so I could look messy with no problem.

What works for me I shampoo so the oils in my hair are cleansed. Umm, I apply conditioner solely because it helps me style my thick hair like Joe. Also, conditioner makes the hair healthier and easier to comb and so that’s why I use it after shampooing.
Side note: after shampooing, conditioning, I later apply mousse, blow dry, comb, last but not least apply hair wax to gain back some shine, and finally spray hair spray to finalize the hold

    • @Jack_Package
      @Jack_Package 5 років тому

@@davidnguyen4353 hey man i got a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind. Whats a mousse for? And how long does the spray hold your hair?

    • @davidnguyen4353
      @davidnguyen4353 5 років тому +1

@Jack Package good questions. A mouse is a light foamy hair spray if you will, it gives you volume without hardening the hair. To activate it, apply a egg size amount onto your hair and run it through from roots to tip. ( I have a heat protection mousse, and also it activates when it’s heated through a blow dryer).
Surprisingly, the hair spray hardens my hair after I’m all done styling it for maybe 30 mins. But throughout the day even though it’s been degraded still adds the needed strength to keep my hair from falling down.
      Hope this helps ;p

Water affects hair. Given it's hard water. Hard water contains small doses of metal. The one metal in particular I want to mention is calcium. Calcium is the key ingredient to balding in men. As some of you might know, when balding, hair roots don't actually stop producing. Rather they are affected of calcium accumulation. Too much of that causes hair spores to thin and hair to not leave the root. This can be corrected using water softener. Water softeners take out the metals from the liquid.

When you shampoo every day, your oil glands over produce because you are execively drying out your hair. Try a system of every other day shampooing/conditioning for a few weeks and you will notice on the off day your hair will be less greasy/oily...

    2 Questions:
    1. Recommendations for conditioners? I use Baxter of California
    2. Do I really need those fancy salon shampoos with all those beneficial ingredients if I use a good conditioner afterwards? Or is a cheaper, mild shampoo enough, if it doesn't contain harmful ingredients?

Had long hair, (just cut it short), but found that rinsing hair with water on non-shampoo days made it greasy faster. Used a shower cap to keep hair dry for non-shampoo days and that worked better~ We'll see if it's the same with short hair! Thanks for always recommending bomb products!!

I have the least greasy hair known to man. My big issue with waiting every other day to wash is just product build up. Even products that are water soluble don't full rinse out with just water. My second day, non washed hair, tends to feel a little weighed down from product.

Water does to some extent strip oils from your hair. If you've ever noticed, your face is much drier feeling after washing it with just water, because it can wash away some of the oils, especially hot water. Same with hair.
Might not require conditioning like if you used shampoo but still good to be aware and maybe consider a leave-in conditioner or something if it's causing too much frizz or dry scalp.

For those who wonder why some people can go days without washing their hair and others it feels greasy, itchy next day. I think where you live in the world is a huge component.
I live in NJ, not the cleanest air in the world, plus it can be quite humid, and my hair feels gross within 24hrs after washing, so I usually have to wash everyday.
10 years ago I lived in Reno, NV for a while. There, it's a dry climate, no humidity. I found that I could go 3-4 days without shampoo before feeling the greasy/itchy scalp.
Not sure if humidity is the main difference, if its how clean the air is in general, or if altitude plays a part (reno is over 6,000 ft above sea level).
Maybe Joe could shed some light.
    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I don't understand those who say using a shampoo too often is bad for your hair but then they recommend dry shampoos? Dry shampoos strip oils out and dry out your hair and scalp far more! Plus they have few natural ingredients in them and have alcohol as a main ingredient. I'd say using a quality shampoo and conditioner with natural ingredients daily or every other day is just fine and your best solution for clean, healthy hair!

So helpful, I have been watching a lot of your videos and have admittedly been confused, because each video features products, used in different context. This was a great way to set up a routine.
I actually only shampoo once a month but I have been conditioning every day still washing my hair. The first two weeks are greasy without shampoo, but your body adjusts and stops producing as much oils because its not trying to keep up with what shampoo takes out. my hair feels great now and lest light and frizzy but also clean. Also as a swimmer it helps prevent chlorine from doing as much damage to my hair in my opinion because more of my good oils are in my hair.

  • @MegaTech81

The most popular myth out there is that you shouldn't shampoo everyday.
Asked my derma about this. She said that no doctor in their right mind would NOT RECOMMEND shampooing everyday. She explained that the scalp and hair get 2.3 times dirtier than the face, and since people wash their face everyday, why not do the same with hair?
The most common argument is that it dries up your hair and strips it of its natural oils. WHICH IS WHY YOU USE CONDITIONER EVERYTIME YOU SHAMPOO AND THE HAIR OILS IN THE SCALP REPLENISH AFTER 20 MINUTES OF SHOWERING ANYWAY.
It should also be mentioned that you should shampoo every time you sweat or use a styling product. Do you leave your makeup on before you sleep?

JOE!!!! PLEASE GIVE ME ONE LAST PIECE OF ADVICE ON LEAVE-IN CONDITIONERS SO I CAN GET BACK TO THE MORE IMPORTANT DECISIONS IN MY LIFE!
I always thought when you referred to your using leave-in conditioners, you would use it on days you didn't shampoo/condition your hair. As in, washing on Monday, using a leave in conditioner Tuesday, and washing on Wednesday. But in this video, you state that you only use it as a pre-styler? That being said, Please give me your opinion on my current hair routine and what your recommendation are for how to execute the perfect leave-in conditioner system.
My current routine has been washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner every 3 days, and on the days in between, I simply rinse my hair with ONLY WATER in the shower, and then after slightly towel drying my hair, I apply the leave in conditioner. I do this everyday until it's time to wash again. Then the whole process begins.
    Thank you for your insight,
    Best,
    Chris

For any Asians out there, shampoo your hair everyday. Asian hair gets really greasy really quickly than most people. Just a fact, and if you don’t, consider yourself lucky. I shampoo my hair everyday and there been no harm in it.

Actually water does affect your hair, especially hard water. It makes your hair more alkaline and imbalances it pH wise. The hair is best at an acidic pH of around 4.

I shampoo and condition my hair every day and it's perfectly fine and healthy. Just make sure you use high quality shampoos and conditioners as the cheaper ones dry the hell out of my hair if used every day.

my hair turns grungy once I wake up it's oily so for me specifically is washing my hair every day a good thing, I remember when I was in grade school I would try never to leave the house without even rinsing my hair with water cause it looked terrible if I didn't even do that.

I need this answering. I heard from someone that if you have drier hair, more frizz etc... you could shampoo only 1-2 times a week, but to use conditioner each day. A hydrating conditioner ofc... does this work for drier hair? As you said, shampoo washes out a lot of the natural goodness from your hair :S
