      Totally agree...I think a lot of links courses I've played would be too much for higher handicappers (or anyone who get frustrated easily on the course haha)but Portmarnock Links has the balance just right!

    I love playing both but if I was being pressured it would be links , I have many fond and funny memories of playing Dunstanburgh links course on the Northumberland coast it's well worth a visit also a little gem of a links course in Scotland - Dunaverty right at the bottom of the Mull of Kintrye a long way to go for a game of golf but it's 18 holes of fun golf both help out by being in the Air Force at the time😀😀😀😀😀. Keep the brilliant blogs coming Rory

    Parkland. More opportunities to hide from the wind and hit over water. I haven't seen many water hazards on holes in links golf. Apart from some OB.

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  6 років тому

      Water hazards aren't really supposed to be on links courses bruh...apart from the odd burn etc.

      Your Golf Travel yeah I know that. But that's why I prefer the parkland. That sense of achievement when you hit a shot over the water and It lands on the green. Makes me think I'm tiger all of a sudden. The proceed to the next tee and slice it into the trees. Haha.

    Links golf all day long for me though the top inland courses run a close second, preferably not the tree lined variety.
    As ever some links courses can destroy your confidence so choose carefully. Must admit don't remember Portmarnock being easy..ish but that was in another lifetime!

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  4 роки тому

      Are you confusing Portmarnock Links (the one in the vid) with Portmarnock GC which is a different course? I also never said this one is easy, I said it was set up in a "friendly" manner in comparison to other links courses I've played.

    Played here almost by accident while on a golf trip to carton house about 10 years ago. Wanted to book a tee time to play on the way home and picked this place. It was gorgeous. We played with another 2 ball who were on a golf trip from the US. A great day and great company I need to arrange another trip back soon. I’d highly recommended it.

    Weather dependent, played Hoylake in calm conditons, lovely! Then West Lancs in a Gale, from sublime to ridiculous in a week.
    Parkland you can get a much more stable environment and at the moment with it so dry it's playing like a links.

    • @yourgolftravel

      True Brian...I do love it when parkland courses get all firm and fast in the summer! Makes the game so much more interesting.

    Thanks Rory, nice review it looks a great place to visit👍 Parkland or Links, as long as I don't lose a half dozen new balls a round links are good, sometimes they make missing a fairway way to penal

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  6 років тому

      That's what I liked here...you could definitely lose a ball or two if you missed in the wrong place but I thought it was very playable in comparison to some other links courses I've played. Bit more aimed at the handicap golfer.
      Portmarnock Links is a must of that sort of thing floats your boat. Drop me a line at raymondo@yourgolftravel.com if you want to discuss setting up a trip bruh! ;-)

    I play parklands and enjoy it, but we have links style barnbougle dunes and lost farm not quite an hour away so it's always a fun change. I like watching this time of year of golf watching the pros get creative on the links

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  6 років тому

    That's a tough question Rory.....Links or parkland. Living in Western New York there are not many what you would call true links golf courses here. But there are a couple of decent ones. LINKS! Keep'em coming Rory.

    Had the pleasure of playing/staying at Portmarnock this past summer. Had a great stay at the beautiful hotel and found the course a bit tougher than you guys as there was wind and T-storms making it very tough. Lost a couple of balls in the "wispy rough" after hitting what I thought were center cut drives. In any case, it's a beautiful hotel and a great links course. As to my preference, I'm more comfortable with parkland as I'm tall and hit it high. That said, some of my favorite rounds have been on links and the golf in Ireland is spectacular ...

      Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay at Portmarnock bruh...cracking little venue isn't it?? We definitely got the course on a good day...could be a lot tougher with different weather conditions for sure. Glad you loved Ireland...pretty much my favourite golf destination!

    Hi Raymundo. I want to say I prefer Links, but I haven't really played enough of them. So I'll say Parkland, but get me some more Links golf and I could change my mind.

    Please Rory. Bandon dunes. You want first class accommodations alongside 4 world class golf courses, your golf travel has to go. I’ve been to Ireland, which I absolutely love. Old head. Ballybunion. Royal county down etc. I’ve played them and they are all amazing but I’ve never stated anywhere that you can find 4 courses that are world class within 5 minutes of your room. Come show the world.

    I play in the states and here in Louisiana there no true links courses.
    But I do have a question for you Rory, Spain...Ireland...Scotland...or England...if you had to choose just one (but you lucky bloke don't have too) to play the rest of your life

    • @yourgolftravel
      @yourgolftravel  6 років тому

      Ireland all day. Granted Spain has the weather but I honestly don't think there's a destination in the world that "pound for pound" can compete with Ireland when it comes to golf courses. Scotland maybe but I've not played enough there for it to be a fair comparison.
