Dialogue #01 - Vulnerabilities of Farmers & Farming Today - Is Agroecology a Solution?
    December 15, 2022
Agriculture and food systems are today seeing a dramatic convergence of multiple crises ranging from rising hunger, climate disruptions and corporate concentration. As in many other parts of the global south, Indian agriculture is also grappling with these issues. Unfortunately, the dominant policy response in India has been to privilege big business and orient the sector towards a free-market driven system of production and distribution.
In response to these multiple challenges, a large number of peasant organisations across the world have adopted food sovereignty and agroecological practices. Agroecological practices are in contrast to corporate-led industrial agriculture and attempt to offer sustainable and just models of agriculture and development.
    Speakers:
Peter Rosset (The College of the Southern Border (ECOSUR),
G V Ramanjaneyulu (Centre for Sustainable Agriculture),
Chukki Nanjundaswamy (Amrita Bhoomi Agroecology School/Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha)
    Moderator:
Shalmali Guttal (Focus on the Global South)
