The way Laurie says "my lord" with the little shy but embarrassed fond smile makes me think that nickname is used both as sarcasm and chiding but also affection and in places other than in public XD
I wish they stayed true to the book and didn't make Jo "fall" for Laurie out of being desperate and lonely. But the way Laurie talks about Amy is so sweet🤗
Exactly. It would be so MUCH better that way. Seriously. Because i was that lady who dont want to get married even a guy were to beg me because i had things going on and i want to be represented!
I think we watched different films. She is overwhelmed idk. Maybe you just didn’t like this version. I think there are 5. I always thought it would be cool if someone took the best elements of remade films and then mashed them to make a super film.
Jo was never sad for Laurie marrying Amy. She was just mad at them for marrying and not telling/inviting her. That said, I also like Greta's portrayal of this scene.
Why did they make Jo so...... unnecessarily a victim of every situation in this movie. It's almost like all her faults and all her tragedies are greater than her sisters. In the book, Jo LOVED Amy and Laurie, and after reading their engagement news she said they were perfect for each other. She kept trying to set up Laurie with her sisters, knew how to own up her own flaws and didnt come home to nurse Beth while making a comment about how her baby sister (Amy) always has things easy. She was so much more mature than this version. Which is interesting, because a lot of people seem to find this version of Jo (Ronan) more feminist?
This scene is so NOT true to the book. Jo was genuinely happy for Laurie and Amy. And Amy didn’t start making those excuses: “I wanted to write you but… Are you not angry at me?”
The absolute powerhouse acting in this scene is mind blowing. The subtlety and nuance of Saoirse and Florence’s interactions is just fantastic. You know you’ve got a great movie when Timmy is kinda hanging around as a second banana 😂😂 And while they are each their own new and unique actor, I have to say, Saoirse gives me Cate Blanchett vibes, Florence gives me Kate Winslet vibes and Timmy gives me Leonardo DiCaprio vibes.
This isnt my favorite version of the story, but rewatching this scene of Jo and Amy made me tear up. Life's too short to be angry with one's sister. ❤️
I always hated Amy 😅 although I must say the actress is quite likable in this film. Jo and the professor were allright. I could have lived with Jo not marrying Laurie if he had ended up with Beth, but not Amy.
@@hermioned1304 absolutely not. Jo only ever loved Laurie like a brother. He was still “her boy”, just not romantically. What the movie doesn’t convey is the months of selfless, round the clock nursing and care Jo devoted to Beth as she was dying. Jo was beyond exhausted and heartbroken watching her favourite sister die when Amy came home. She felt isolated. And the happiness of her 2 sisters in their married lives compounded her feeling of loneliness. She also felt her dreams of being something die as she knew it fell to her to take care of her parents in their old age when everyone thought it’d be Beth. Book Frederick instantly noticed her careworn appearance when he showed up with “you haf been ill my friend?”. Treat yourself to the books, movies never get it right.
In the book while overseas Laurie vaguely realizes he is starting to think more about Amy. Trying to fight against his feelings he writes to Jo once last time asking her to take him back. We do not see the actual content of their letters, but Jo does write back and firmly says no.
The thing is, Laurie always wanted to be a March. That was always going to happen in one way or another. But he and Jo would have been terrible as a couple, they never would have challenged each other to be better people.
@@Be_With_Me989 because you don’t forget the first love, that feeling never goes away. I think that Laurie’s marrying Amy made Joe started to look their relationship a little sensual (she refused to feel that in the past) but quickly realized that he is now her sister’s husband. Very subtle… the actors are excellent.
Better if they hadn’t made this up for dramatic effect. Worse even that both Laurie and Amy came off acting guilty and appealing/pleading with Jo’s good nature. They knew they did something wrong … you don’t go after a man that your sister has connections with… you don’t go after the sister of the girl you used to pursue. Lastly for the change in Jos character, she knew she made a good decision and you don’t back track on that.Good, pure people like they were in the book keep it clean.
One last thing, you don't make so many rules when it comes down to love anymore. Regardless of having pursued her older sister at some point, he fell in love with Amy. With Jo, it was an expectation. Amy was the true love of his life.
Amy is not a true sister and Laurie is such miserable soul to go after the sister of a girl who he loved and confessed his love already. Jo should live her life staying away from toxic people and relationships. But again I do understand that Jo and May didn’t grow up together in same household which practically makes them a strangers and May always wanted to mary rich 😅
In the books Jo doesn't have this odd change of heart for plot drama and is actually pleased immediately for Amy as they've both matured by then! This is some weird regression on Jo's character growth.
Sister and girl code is stupid most of the time. It should never stop people from being happy just because someone didn't work with another.@@Wonwonssi
@@Wonwonssilegally he can marry Amy..I don't also like this sister's code..if they feel awkward with a person or their exes.. marrying their best friend or sister, they can separate sisters relationship and marriage without ruining it..
I love how he goes "Can we still be friends, Jo? Please". That's how you know how truly important it was for him, to have her in his life.

Florence Pugh's deep voice always throws me off when she plays a young character, just like Miley Cyrus.
Some of us just have lower voices even from the time we were kids.
I think she's had the voice when she was young too...
She sounds like she’s been smoking 40 a day for 20 years 😅 But I think it’s a lovely voice, very rich and full of gravitas.
she has asthma and a condition tracheomalacia@@BanjoPixelSnack
Me too, it really didn’t fit the character, kind of threw me off.

Nope, book Jo didn’t have the struggle depicted here. She was instantly ecstatic at Laurie’s news of the marriage. Phooey on Hollywood
She did struggle.
