  • Whitehaven is a welcome center in Paducah, Kentucky. The house was built in 1865 by tobacco dealer Edward L. Anderson. House was sold to Ed L. Atkins in 1903. Architect Alda Lafayette Lassiter remodeled the house in the Classical Revival style. In 1908, Atkins sold the house to James P. Smith, mayor of Paducah. In 1968, caretakers took over the house, where it fell into disrepair. In 1981, demolition was considered for the house, until it was decided to make it into a welcome center. The house was carefully restored using as much original material as possible. Part of the second floor is dedicated to US vise president Alben Barkley. The welcome center was officially opened on June 23, 1983. The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on March 1, 1984. The last picture is a piano that was in Whitehaven, and is now being displayed at the Market House Museum in downtown Paducah. #JCRamZ #Whitehaven #Paducah
