I just wanted to let you know that your videos have helped me repair two of my Minolta lenses. This one (issue where focusing changed the aperture) and the 135mm f2.8 (dirty/stuck Aperture blades). Thanks for making these videos all those years ago!
Matt - Had an issue with the focus range. It was off and could not focus to infinity as it was not in the correct position on the coil. I believe someone at one point tried to fix the lens, and when doing so, they did not put the focus back into the correct range. To re-adjust the focus, you must remove the focus ring, but can leave the glass intact. Then, manually adjust the metal coil while the lens is on the camera, and set to infinity focus eye-balling it in the viewfinder. Once set at infinity, DO NOT touch the metal focus coil again, and mount the focus ring back on at the point of infinity. Replace the screws and other mount in correct order, and it's fixed!
Thank you for posting this. My 50mm has an issue with the coil... I can't focus to infinity most likely due to some dirt getting into the coil area. Need yo get myself a spanner wrench because using a screwdriver is not allowing me to take the front pieces apart.
Very informative and clear video, thanks a lot! I achieved to fix the issues of my example and reassemble it properly, and then I noticed a finger print on the glass inside the lens... Had to tear it down again, and lost the ball bearing while at it, after ordering some in China, the aperture ring now refuses to turn... I guess I'll have to bring it to someone actually skillful ahah !
Dang I was hoping for an easier way to get at the heliocoil without removing the elements. I believe mine has some dirt in it as I can feel and hear it when I rotate the focus ring. I need to clean it out and regrease to fix is my guess.
Matt, great video! I just picked up a Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm f1.7 and am wondering if you can just use a lens spanner wrench to remove the front lens assembly without pulling the filter holder, or the next ring down. I'm concerned about losing the infinity focus setting. Again, thanks for a great video!
Thank you for this detailed video! Really easy to reach the aperture ring mechanism on this lens. Question: What would I need to do in order to de-click it? Just remove the ball bearing?
Yes. To de-click this lens go in from the back, take off the aperture control ring, and remove the ball bearing. You can probably skip a lot of the other steps if you only need to remove the ball bearing.
Can the front lens group carrier be opened for cleaning on this lens? Almost looks like there is a lock ring on the front element. My MD Rokkor-X 50 1.4 looks similar and has some crud inside that front group.
Great video! I lost ball bearing thing during assembly and couldn't find it. Now my aperture ring won't click to hold in place. Any ideas how to fix it?

看了你的教程我把霉斑清理好了
My copy (bought it today) has a slightly hard focus ring, this can be fixed by wear of the lens or do I need to dissassemble it and fix it somehow?
Thank you
Thanks very much, very useful! I lost the ball bearing as well, but found it again :-)

Yeah, you're right. It was very easy to do that after following your video.
Thanks again!

Is the design similar to the Konica Hexanon AR 50mm f1.7?
I have one with fungi but can't find a video of it's disassembly...
