Yea, I remember when they came out with that RC logo on cards. Man they had that RC logo on baseball player , that have already been in the Bigs for like 3 or 4 years!

Holy Moley, coming out swinging showing the 51 Bowman Mantle and the 52 Topps Mantle. I agree with all your points in the video is the way rookie cards are determined. Standards should be set.

Love when you share pieces of your insanely awesome collection to go along with these deep thoughts, and you make a really valid point here that I could see being pretty cool.
Modern collectors, many of whom joined post 2020, love the RC logo though. Might be a tough sell because it makes all the endless releases and parallels and inserts with the RC stamp feel a little more "important" when people are opening their newly released product. But the RC logo in present form does feel a bit manipulative and diluting of what a rookie card (not plural) seems to imply as a singular memento. But the times always do be changing, and as you said here, signifying "first topps" amongst many other rookie year (first year) cards could give more distinctive meaning and weight in the sea of modern RC logo'd cards.

Collectors should also consider non rookie cards for their PC, you can get some great ones for cheap because it's not a rookie... but still get the stars. and nice parallels

Agreed. I’m so tired of the RC logo unless it’s cola.
Where did you get the ban rookie card logo shirt ?
I like the first Topps card idea

Gave a video like. Wish that they could standardize the rules so any kids' grandma who doesn't know the hobby could easily find a players rookie card for their grandchild. It's unfortunately so complicated, I can hardly keep track myself of key rookie cards. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Beckett used to have the "FTC" or "First Topps Card" as an identifier in their price guides. Then Stadium Club listed players First Topps Card on the back of the card in 1991. We'd all still have the same argument if Topps goes that route.

I get where you’re going with this Eric. It will never happen though. It would be nice if Topps didn’t franks red hot the RC shield though.

I would have liked to heard your thoughts on the first Star Jordan card & the 86 Fleer Jordan.

since the 1984 Star was a regional issue, i do not see it as a Rookie Card. Quite Costly though!

I love your video , today. The issue I have is every first year card of a player gets an RC... and that includes about 100 base cards from different set, the parallels, the inserts etc... so what is that now 500 different cards? It's kind of crazy. There's about a dozen Topps sets I like to get cards from.... but many others are just silly and frankly just too many... and too many parallels. But still I like the wide array of options... so we buy what we like. But seriously Topps puts out way too much. I also take into account the image from a card to decide if I want it from some of the lesser demand series.
    It is confusing.

Crazy to see a 2nd year card out perform a rookie card over this amount of time. I wonder what modern day 2nd year cards will out perform the rookie. Time will tell

84' Jordan Star Vs. 86' Jordan Fleer This debut will never age well. I agree with you about RC not being placed on inserts, parallels or even air brushed team jersey & Topps Now cards. Topps should add 1st. RC on their base card only. The rest I feel are gimmicks.

Not all the top valued cards need to be rookie cards. People call the 52 a rookie card just because they want it to be. I never hear anyone call the 52 Topps Mays his rookie card.

    • @elitehunters732
      @elitehunters732 28 днів тому +1

Many call the 38 Heads Up Goudey DiMaggio his RC, when there’s a 36 World Wide Gum out there….48 Bowman Stan Musial when there’s a 46 Proagandas out there….🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

They will never drop the logo as long as that logo on shiny numbered inserts is like printing money that’s all that matters to Topps. Personally I’m over it.

Sadly, Topps doesn’t care. They sell cardboard, not even gum anymore. There focus is making money, marketing, and hype.
If they actually cared, the junk wax era would not have happened.
People will always overlook logic when n favor of feeling like they’re “winning”. Watching the PostPan junk wax era/junk slab era in progress is amusing to watch. I haven’t bought any new product since 2019, once I saw what was happening. Good luck collecting. Nice Mantles!🎉
