Homeworld is easily my most utterly treasured game-of-my-youth, it's a tossup between 1 and Cataclysm for the best story. I don't know if I can bring myself to try 3, and risk tarnishing my memories of the narration by Campbell Lane, and hand-drawn cutscenes, and the Beast, and the Gardens of Kadesh....
@@Grombolin I feel ya there. If you avoid the campaign and just play the game for the coop pve or custom game elements it’s pretty good in my opinion. Maybe after a Steam sale XD
Never played a Homeworld game before but i luv this game, aesthetically gorgeous, deep and immersive gameplay, and the additional content the devs are adding is damm fine.
Thanks for making this! I absolutely adore the industrial design aspects of a lot of these ships! Aww, they're just so blocky and chunky and I love them!! Props to whoever did the ship design! They're so great from a design perspective. I really wish games like Sins of a Solar Empire drew more inspiration from Homeworld for their ship designs. I'm not a big fan of the spiky, organic-looking ships :P they just look very impractical, no offense to those guys.
Ship designs tier list (based on look and perceived functionality) Recon, Interceptor, Fleet Bomber : S tier, sleek and deadly, imagine space F-22 and F-35 jeta Railgun Corvette : A tier, the Corvette hull itself looks very well designed but the choice of weapon feels off, why isn't there any anti strike craft corvette? Assault Frigate : B tier, weapons have very limited arcs because they're mounted too close to the hull instead on elevated mounts like the HW2 Flak Frigate. The small bridge tower also blocks the gun arcs. The hull itself is great though Ion Cannon Frig. : S tier, wouldn't be the Hiigarans without their Ion Cannnon frigates. Torpedo Frigate : A tier, a pretty pragmatic solution of sticking torpedo tubes to the outside of the frigate instead of using an internal loading system like the HW2 one, I'd say it looks great, but why doesn't it have any other secondary weapons (when the torpedo frig in HW2 has a secondary missile weapon) Suppression Frigate : F tier Who in their right mind would put point defense weapons as a fixed forward gun? Destroyer : C tier, I'd say it's a pretty meh design and a downgrade from the HW2 one in terms of firepower. (Only 1.5 assault frigates worth of firepower?) Battlecruiser : D tier, very restricted gun arcs, a lot of unused space, and very underarmed for it's size (having about 2 assault frigates and 2 ion frigates worth of firepower) Carrier : S tier, as a bonus it's named after Captain Soban from HW2. Mothership : B tier, looks sleek but has some questionable design like exposing the cores and also weapons on rails while you can just mount more turrets....
I mean they screwed the pooch by taking a survival story about an entire people and culture then turning it into an individual messiah power-trip piece. Ignoring all of that, the game is just a better Homeworld.
@@fillianplays The silver lining is that if they do reorganize the writing team and have someone competent lead things, they do have an out here. The ending of HW3 sets up a 'finding the way home' scenario, but that's going to depend on if they're competent in making the recovery from HW3's base story
@@fillianplays Nah the gameplay of HW3 is overall a huge downgrade from earlier HW. Capital Ships don't behave properly and you have a lot less micro potential, for example no more reverse moving Ion Frigates or Torp frigates to out range Assault frigates.... they'll turn around and then move instead. Strike craft are just badly implemented with hitscan rapid fire guns wiping them out ridiculously fast with no opportunity for skill expression. Unit abilities being reduced to APM burden abilities. Extremely shit multiplayer maps. Multiplayer gameplay being just rush mothership to the middle while spamming fighters, the list goes on....a lot of fundamentals of what makes Homeworld is either missing or severely downgraded and abstracted. wait are we not going to talk about how the recessed turrets of the HW3 battlecruisers meant that the ion cannon turrets on the same ship cant tartget the same enemy? The battlecrusers in HW2 were able to pitch the whole ship to point towards the enemy to deal the maximum damage against other capital ships, but the battlecruiser AI in HW3 seems extremely suicidal and simplistic to NOT point all their weapons towards the threat like WHYYYYY
@@enderteamer8205 I think the heavy suppression frigate is my fave for HW3. I do appreciate how they blended the art from both Taidan and Hiigaran ship designs since those cultures would have assimilated with each other.
@@ehrlinbustamante4290 Not a dumb question at all! Probably Incarnate if I do anything for HW3. Technically could do Raiders but figure I’ll wait for them to add more of the things on the roadmap. Open to ideas if you’re referring to anything other than HW.

@@fillianplays I meant the interceptor with laser, recon with turret, IEM fregate, heavy suppression frigate, Nova corvette (the compendium has a lot of info, including artifacts ones).
The Interceptor had the opposite of a "glow up"... from the slick and advanced design in HW2 to... that. I don't know, a lot of the ships seem... odd. The assault frigate, for example, seems more Vaygr than Hiigaran. The same can be said about some of the other ships... some, like the suppression frigate, seem to be more influenced by HW1 designs, and lost some of the design shapes from HW2. I don't know, they feel more like a downgrade than an upgrade. Mothership, Carrier and even the Bomber are probably the better designed ships of the bunch.
