ABOUT MAKING ANY TUTORIALS: It's very unlikely I will do any tutorials about anything, I am really sorry about that. ABOUT ART REQUESTS: I only accept commissions. ABOUT THE MUSIC I CHOSE FOR MY VIDEOS: I am just extremely picky with the royalty free music I put in my videos, lol. Generally, I spend a ridiculous amount of time searching for good royalty free music that fits my personal tastes and that sounds like actual songs we would hear in movies or similar. I also look for the best song that fits the themes / characters / atmosphere of the painting in each, particular video :)My favorite musicians for this are Adrian von Ziegler, PeriTune, Kevin MacLeod, Daniel Lehmann (formerly known as RoughNX) and Sláinte. ABOUT MY ART / LEARNING / IMPROVEMENT: I've been drawing pretty much my entire life to be honest, but I've been drawing more seriously since I was around 15. I did some fast art courses and I was an apprentice in an oil painting studio for a couple of months when I was 17 years old, but I am mostly self-taught from tutorials and videos online. I have this improvement meme chart where I show my art between years 2003-2019 if you want to take a look - fav.me/darraes And here I have some "DRAW THIS AGAIN" memes: fav.me/dbkqddn and fav.me/dbvcb6c and tiny.cc/3p7haz ___________________________________________________________ * Email for contact: celticbotan@gmail.com * COMMISSION INFO! ****** fav.me/d9wxsuw * * KO-FI! ko-fi.com/celticbotan * Society6: society6.com/celticbotan * Instagram: instagram.com/celticbotan * Twitter: twitter.com/celticbotanart * Tumblr: apollo-devotee.tumblr.com/ * Artstation: www.artstation.com/artist/celticbotan * DeviantArt: celticbotan.deviantart.com/ * Facebook Page: facebook.com/CelticBotanDigitalArt
The different textures from the skin to the hair to the glasses and clothes... they are all phenomenal. Your art has such life and vibrancy! I especially love that you add in older/traditional art of her. I find it encouraging when you can easily see the growth of an artist. Keep up the good work!
thank you so much! I think it's nice to show other drawings like that, and other references I might use, so my process / train of thought is a little clearer for people :) thanks for watching!
Your art is criminally underrated; more people should be subbed to your channel 😩👌 This character is stunning and their design is so creative! I loved seeing the evolution of their design ✨
I just LOVE that you're not doing a generic "perfect, pretty, cute girl" that everybody seems to always be constrained to doing ad nauseum! I love that she's an actual character, has a distinct look, is beautifully painted - and it's just so cool. Thank you doing this and for the beautiful timelapse. If you could also post this in real time, that would be super helpful. :)
Generally I really like to make my OCs with something that would be considered "imperfections" by beauty standards - for ex, Ario has this weird pattern of dark freckles and a silvery eye that would look rather "uncanny" for most people in a real life context; Rose is bullied because she has a really big nose and dark freackles all over, Jinn has a tiny scar on his lip, and so on. I've recently made some pirate!AU drawings of stablished female characters from crime shows I like, and all of them have REALLY MASSIVE facial scars and a wooden leg or arm - one of them has her right side entirely scarred by fire, and her right eye is blind because of that; because they are pirates and by doing that is like me reinforcing how badass and fearless they are. I think my most "standard" character is Sarah, she is a default good-looking child normally, but then in her fantasy version she has horns and yellow cat-like eyes because she's a half-dragon princess. One of the reasons why I like to paint eerie-looking / scarred / half-beast characters is exactly to defy perfection beauty standards, and how some of us girls really feel unfit. So I get that and turn into something cool and badass and awesome. Thanks a lot for commenting, and for watching too
@@CelticBotansDigitalArt Oh wonderful, thanks! Yes, I very much agree with you and I love that you still make each character look so beautiful in their own way. I often think this is the purpose of art: to show how beautiful everything is when you look at it with love.
this was lovely! i love seeing your oc designs and learning about them, it's so interesting ! and thank you for more real time content hah. do you pull your designs from your head, or do you use multiple references or inspiration? when i'm building my ocs and stories, i make relevant pinterest boards for inspiration and so i can show others my process! ( my type for characters are people who go through great changes & come out better for it. i also love nature-themed characters, and a lot of mine are based after different types of fair folk! )
Thanks a lot :D I decided to include real time segments in all vids since the Children of the Sun vid if I'm not mistaken, i think it would be a nice, useful touch for those watching, I'm happy you like them. OC designs usually come from things I enjoy, hence some repetitive patterns like long, flowy hair and dark freackles, and other medias like movies and games. I was looking at a lot of ball jointed dolls back last year, a lot of inspiration for Octavia, Ario and Jinn came from the unique elements they have (intricate clothes and makeup, the ethereal vibes and odd animal parts like the "wing ear" thing, etc). Ethereal/fantasy themes are definitely a favorite for me! Some OCs were heavily inspired by musicians I like, Sarah and Rose were created like that (I explain that more in depht in the videos I made for them), and some came from crossover/fanfictions/etc I came up with - like Sam (she was originally quasi-original character in my Harry Potter/X-Files crossover). One of my OCs, Lizzie King, came from the Hogwarts Mystery game, where your character is completely personalized, I created her to play the game and ended up growing really fond of her, haha. I also have a Pinterest if you want to follow me there and take a look at my boards: br.pinterest.com/CelticBotan/ I also love those types of characters! I usually work with those themes more when I am writing fan theories and fic stuff, I tend to be very lose with my own OC's, I kinda shape their backstories on the go, mostly lol - maybe except Sarah and Rose, who are around since 2012 and which I created with trying to write their story in mind (I kinda gave that up after a while tho). Thanks a lot for the nice comment and questions, and thanks for watching!
I absolutely love this character!!! ❤️❤️ Also when you asked if we had a type to our characters, I realised mine is always either dark and edgy characters or the complete opposite, being sweet, gentle and caring 😂😂 oh and all of them can seemingly turn into something else it seems! Anyways love your videos and characters!!
I love your art style so much and this drawing is awesome once again!! I love how she is literally like the opposite of Octavia but she also looks so much like her! I enjoyed your speedpaint of Octavia as well. To answer the question in your video: I draw a lot of kids too, I love how innocent and naïve they look with their big eyes and how they are just enjoying everything : D
Yes! I figured they would be like sisters/twins, which is always an interesting concept to play with, the "similar-but-opposite" kind of dynamics. One of the things I love about Octavia is that she's always so grumpy but wears pastel pink colors, haha. I might paint her next, it's been a while. Thanks a lot for watching!
