I love Becky's insight and eloquence! Also love how Sam has thrown herself into this new media role, and how generous she is with her questions, a lot of media heads just want to talk talk talk and have their guest affirm their position, Sam instead is always asking an inquisitive question that sets up the guest to give tons of material and then she listens attentively. And again, Becky is so great in those responses.
really nicely put. many "sportscasters" do like you said & also talk over their guests responses. sam doesn't do that. she and becky get along so well. AND my belief is that if becky so chooses she will be a good coach. such insight
"I could tell a person, who they were, by their running gait." Becky just casually having 200 IQ spatial awareness before reaching her full power through corrective lenses.
really generous and insightful analysis from Becky on Sam Coffey's play style and history. Gives us a better understanding of Coffey's talents and growth points! just a really nice way to hear someone speak about a colleague
If I was the head of podcasting, I would have a podcast with the mission to teach and do deep dive analysis of the game. I think we all love to watch matches, but many people didn’t grow up playing or watching soccer, and it’s so much more interesting when the viewer can key into the strategy, what is working and what isn’t etc.
Really intelligent, entertaining soccer talk. Becky has "future coach" written all over her. She communicates so well, and there's a calm vibe about her.
Portland Thorn’s Management is getting Portland Thorn’s player Becky S. involved with coaching aspects of the team play such as the team’s game against the Seattle Reign the other night. When she was on the sidelines she had a coach’s clipboard writing down field observations of both teams playing and discussing her observations with Thorn’s Head Coach Rob Gale. I think this is a perfect fit for Becky in her future NWSL career.
Thank you for your take on the Matildas, I appreciate it. It's great to hear such analysis from US soccer players whose opinion I respect. The Tillies will be my team forever!
This was the best Olympic episode yet - I only want to hear analysis and predictions from Sam and Becky from here on out. SO GOOD. Freakin' go triforce!!
Giving another nod to your discussion on the CAN WNT. that emotional roller coaster was a big part of what finally got me into soccer because i wanted to follow the team in between intl tournaments. The "fk it, we're good players, we know it, and we'll prove it" attitude was very inspiring. It's nice to know that so many other players support the TEAM and know it wasn't the players' fault/theyre not bad people.
Sam and Becky. I listened to Alyssa Naeher do an interview with her local broadcaster after the World Cup final against Netherlands. Rather than the final, all anyone wanted to talk about was saving the penalty against England in the semi, which seemed more important as a turning point as England looked like winning and it was not just in that one interview. Being English, I had to have a begrudging respect, especially as it seemed Steph Houghton deserved to score. All I could think was how brilliant Rose Lavelle's goal had been in the final and yet it was clear Alyssa was seen as the hero. If only Mary Earps' penalty save in the last World Cup final had been as meaningful.
Hello Sam and Becky. I originally wanted to play rugby league. A cousin was later a professional. My wearing glasses meant I even gave up cricket at 11 when the 16 year olds I played with kept breaking my glasses in practice. In school aged 16 the boys were asked to try field hockey against the girls. I went in goal and did not concede a goal, but also martialed the team to where we started to score. I got asked to play against the staff for the school. I then got put in the staff team to play a rival school. Another pupil, younger brother of one of my rugby international heroes, who was himself already signed as a professional footballer, thought I was his referee and was making fun of me in glasses, but it was funny when he realised I had been lent kit to play something myself. I later won competitions at something else in glasses, but it was so good when I eventually got contact lenses and my team took on a cricket team for charity and beat them, with me both scoring runs and taking wickets for just one run. Cricket is in the Olympics in US next time. That eye sight thing should be all coaches first job.
I still remember the USA vs Canada game in 2012 Olympics! Vanessa Gilles will be the new Christine Sinclair is Canada faces USA again! BTW, love Becky's voice.
I disagree - those two seem a tad more self absorbed - at least I find myself distracted more easily from their questioning and narratives. they're ok. sam is imo extraordinary
Great episode! I could listen to Becky talk tactics ( or 🐈) all day. Sam needs to start watching the women’s water polo 🤽 so freakin awesome and it’s like soccer/swimming combo 🤙🏽 and obviously you’re both bada$$ warriors. 😎
The yellow in the Last game was so harsh. there were other plays and tackles that deserved a yellow that the ref did not give. I get their point to give a yellow to have people calm down as long as the tackle deserves it. I dotn think Coffey's tackle was deserving of a yellow.
was expecting Becky Sauerbrunn to scrunch up her shirt sleeves onto her shoulders to answer these tough Mewis questions which of course is her on the field uniform reality.
*Japan is an old foe of the USWNT. The Japanese team have sometimes rained on the USWNT parade. The current team is following the same strategy with strong opponents: Low block with two forwards ahead for the counterattack. One of these forwards runs very fast. So, keep an eye on these two forwards. This is an intense tournament with only two days rest between matches, but remember whom you are representing: The People of the United States of America. Duty - Honor - Country.*
So with Korbin A. also carrying a yellow card.....isn't it dicey starting her in place of Coffey? Instead, start Nighswonger or Krueger if Davidson isn't available at LB and move Dunn to midfield? Definitely see Japan focusing in on Albert with their pressure. But my biggest fear....Rodman picking up a 2nd yellow. Someone hold up a yellow sign - "Chill Trin".
Could be wrong but I'm pretty sure the yellow card accumulation rule is over after the Quarterfinals. If that's true, there is no reason to be cautious of KA and Rodman's yellows
@@cole7726 It resets after quarterfinals, so a card picked up in the quarterfinals means missing the semifinals, but a player cannot miss a medal match because of yellow accumulation. This happened in one of the mens’ quarterfinals today.
@@cole7726 yeah I think the idea of the timing of it is to not have yellow card accumulation affect player availability for the medal round. Although they can still be suspended for a red card in the semis.
I think Hayes is clearly better than Vladko, but I'm worried about one thing just as I was in the WC. Playing the best team in all three games with minimal substitutions leaves them tired for the elimination rounds. I wish she'd used all subs and used them a bit earlier.
Emma is the other side of safe spectrum. Vlatko was safe in terms of playing from the back and too cautiously in the key moments and Emma is safe in terms of sticking to a familiar Starting XI. In all honesty, Emma can't really afford to have a worse result than Vlatko when the expectations and the demands for the team are so high.
@@davidt3956 agree, since Vlatko's team got the bronze at the Olympics if USWNT loses in the quarters this time it would be seen as a huge failure. Especially because Olympics and the women's football tournament have really decent TV ratings, across the normie/non-soccer demographic in particular. For many young kids Olympics is that eureka moment where they discover their passion, this year I feel like it might be rugby.
I would really like this platform or any platform of professional women’s athletes address or comment on male chromosome athletes competing in female sports. Thanks ladies, great show❣️
Is really the USWNT successful in penalty shootouts in big games? They won the final of the WC back in 1999 against China after penalties, but lost the final vs Japan in the 2011 final, as well as the games against Sweden in the Olympic QF 2016 and WC 2nd round last year. In later years I can only recall the victory over the Netherlands in the OG QF 2021.

Speaking of football IQs... Becky's is top-tier. I think she would be a great coach! Great seeing her on the pod 👍

Becky, when I played basketball I shot better without vision correction. The blurry rim looked so much bigger and it helped my confidence!

Can we dial Becky in real quick in Tierna's place, so that Sonnett can safely play 6?
What lalaland drugs are you on?

I want Sonnet to start in the back if Davidson can't, Horan in 6 for Coffey, and Bethune as a distributor to help the Magic 3 pierce Japan's defense.
