Good sounding old girl. You guys are getting quite a collection of them. I think that it is a good idea if you get something you know and like, go ahead and get another one. You always will have parts around for all of them.
They're nothing fancy, I'd rather have some 7000 or 7x10 series units, but we bought all 3 of these for what one well used 7000 series costs. And they are far cheaper to fix. Good units for 90% of the work that needs done around here. What is that 30 series you guys have hooked up to the baler? 4230?
yep, 1977 model. pretty much identical tractor as our 4040. i think the only reason deere built the 4040 was to get rid of leftover 4230 parts. got to love the 404 engines in these old tractors.
Not sure on the measurement, the best way to measure fuel consumption in my opinion is fuel use per hour. Pulling a hay rake or round baler you would use in the neighborhood of 13 liters. If you were operating a disc mower it may use up to 18 liters. Heavy tillage at full power will use between 35 to 40 liters

Could you do a video on how to properly drive a quad range? I taught myself so not sure if it’s the right way or not.
I might be able to do that sometime. It's amazing how many people (even around here) who can't seem to quit grinding gears. lol
Do you miss the 4WD ?
We still have a couple of front assist John Deere tractors, for winter feeding. Otherwise no there is no real advantage to it
No Gas Pedal?
arocs4870 No pedal. None of the John Deere's of the time had a pedal, and still most don't have one.
Guy is still sending me payments on mine. I'll get it sold someday lol
Sowerscattleco you still have it then?
DieselFume1 yupp, I can get away from it lol
I would suggest some wheel weights as well, shockloads on the drivetrain are a real bugger on those 30 series Deere's.
How many liters of diesel consumed per hectare? Thank you
