I've had 2 79's and one 83...all good bike's
Brings back good memories. I had a '77 GS 750 which I raced in AFM and Manning club races back in the day. Then bought a totaled one and rebuilt it a couple of years later. Rode that thing to Texas and back at one point. Sweet running bikes.
That is super cool! I'm getting more excited about it reading comments like this!
Stop telling lies lad
Man I feel your pain picking that beast back up. I had one in the late 80's, I never should have sold it. So heavy, tho, lolz...
I'm at the point of parting it out haha
Bernie, you're my hero
Ben, you're my hero 😆
I had a 83 gs850. I was young and it scared the shit out of me. I sold it after one summer. Wish I never did that.
That's a great story! Thanks for watching! The bike needs a lot of work still, but I'm excited for it
Stop telling lies lad
My 2 gs 850's never had a Kickstart!
Do not use a hammer to get the bowl off the carbs only use a rubber hammer
😬😬😬
All that rust 😂😂😂 glad you had use for it bud!
Just getting started! It's been pretty fun so far, thank you for contacting me about it!
Engine not smoking so you got really lucky
Yeah, I'm super pumped!
My second 79 850 was just like that
Been there done that, bike ramp solo wrestling 😅
It's always sketchy haha
I’ve gotten carbs like this before I take them apart as much as possible and dump the parts in 90octane non ethanol for a week take em out and 99% of the time they come apart pretty clean it don’t hurt to put a can of Berryman b12 in the mix
Good to know, I'm still learning!
The 1979 GS850G is a heck of a good bike and you’ve really scored there - but I will say that it would pay to be a bit more methodical when trying to start a new-to-you bike or car. Perhaps check for. Spark at one of the leads and also check to see if there is a clutch lever safety switch…
It's definitely cool, also a pain in the butt. The 4 carbs are fighting me. Thanks for watching!
I watched a guy on UA-cam I think she was the bearded mechanic I love the exact same bike you do he bought it real cheap from somebody he took it home and during his disassembly of the carburetors can you just spray WD-40 also spray it into the light switches helps clean up the corrosion and the horn and the starter switch he also sprayed electrical contact spray 2 just thought I'd send that out to you poor future use
Good to know, thanks!!
Can someone explain why on Earth varnish Is Inside the carbs...how the hell does that get in there???
Its old petrol that dries out, and leaves a thin varnish
@@Eana-of-Sussex oh right i never knew, you learn something everyday, thanks for letting me know
just soak the carbs in sea foam for about a month 🙃
I got the bike running, still needs a ton of work. I've decided I'm going to move on
"Don't Tread On Me..." Look y'all we've got ourselves a true patriot!!
I'm not shipping rack just put whole assembly in Clarkson parts washer to soak
I could not agree more
A very heavy bike I'm just doing my cars full of crap not run for 4 year's
