3PT volume has gone up but % hasn’t really changed. There have been some 50% 3PT seasons before like Steve Kerr has done it a bunch of times, I know Joe Harris did it on the KD/Kyrie Nets on high volume (51% I just checked), Kyle Korver had a 54%(!!) 3PT season, a few other guys did it in the 90s on high volume for the time too like Legler, Schrempf, etc.

This the same thing happen to Celtics with Isiah Thomas but atleast IT would have good regular seasons and playoff runs when healthy. The problem the Knicks have is when your best player is 5’9 you’re not winning anything in this league. And if you ask KAT tk be your best player he’s not good enough. Knicks have a good team on paper yes but they aren’t meshing well. Brunson is to short and takes hard difficult shots that he don’t make in the 4th or playoffs when things get serious. I will say that center is the toughest position to play defensively in the NBA. Just being a rim protector isn't enough. You need to be able to guard the perimeter, switch and stay ahead of smaller, faster guards, and still be able to deny other bigs in the post/paint. You think about it, even a lot of good paint protectors are not really great defenders (Brooke Lopez and Gobert come to mind) because they can be easily exploited on the perimeter. This is the same issue I brought up with Milwaukee. If you have a defensively liability at a guard spot and a big that struggles on the perimeter, it is a recipe for disaster because there's just too many ways to get attacked. Generally, you can hide one defensive liability, but not two.
This is definitely a skill too. A lot of good perimeter defending bigs have great footwork. For example, Al Horford has historically be very versatile defensively, and if you watch his footwork he usually does a really good job with positioning and sliding, which lets him stay in front of a faster player without over committing. Conversely, if you watch Gobert, his footwork is like watching a drunk attempt ballet, and that's the reason he so often gets exploited when he has to move and defend a player on the perimeter. I've compared it in some ways to the foot work that's required for a lineman in football, something that most casual fans overlook, but that makes a huge difference in someone's ability. And then there's KAT's case where his footwork is poor and he is also just soft. I think the guy would be afraid of contact from Payton Pritchard.

  • @TheGallant9
    @TheGallant9 День тому +1

It's not that Thibs is stubborn. He's afraid. He doesn't really know how to coach at an elite level like Budenholzer. They rely heavily on their best talent to carry the weight. He doesn't really know how to assess talent to be confident in potential rotations

Speaking as a lifelong die hard NY Knicks fan. I had a bad feeling about the KAT trade from the moment it happened. Not just the fact that Dante DeVincenso was turning into one of my favorite players on the team, but I just didn't buy KAT being that defensive force people talked about him being. I'm not putting 100% of the blame for our early season struggles on KAT. but he was the big deal this off season, and he was supposed to be our defensive anchor. As a Knicks fan, I'm used to disappointment when we should be doing great. But also as a Knicks fan, I'm still gonna stick with this pain.

As someone who has been supporting the rise of the Knicks over the last couple of years, I wasn’t happy about the trade for KAT. If not getting Bridges meant they get to keep Donte I would have said let Bridges stay his ass in Brooklyn. Dude straight up came over, and broke his jump shot, meanwhile giving up one of the best 3 point shooters in the league who doesn’t hold on to the ball that much. As well as I have been supporting the Knicks, I liked them so much better after picking up Donte, as Dontes resume speaks for itself. If they just rode it out, and waited for Mitch to come back they would have been just fine

So most of the concerns are valid; but no one is actually worried about him sustaining .500 from 3. Even if he drops down to 40 (around his career average) his 2-point percentage will still be high as we’ve seen in games where he hasn’t hit the 3. And last night against Brooklyn when he didn’t play we still had major defensive issues, which means KAT isn’t the real problem. Its Bridges. He’s got to step up. They’re letting guys get to the paint with ease. Also: we have Mitch and Achiuwa. When they come back some of the rim protection will be resolved.

  • @warlockmagic3416

Knicks have a good bench. I'd rest Kat and OG early in first 2nd half & 3 qtrs. 2nd unit- Kolek/McBride/OG/Achiuwa/Kat. Could bring Hart out early to join the 2nd unit too. Spread the Offense/Defense all around and rest guy's early like OG for his age in the first 3 qtrs to rest and come into the 2nd unit.
If we do this as I said.
Starters : Brunson/M.Bridges/OG/Hart/Kat- With 5 minutes to go in each quarter I may rest the same similar individuals because there is less at that position. But since I also love Kolek and McBride. I'd like to switch them into a rotation early as well. Once C Robinson gets back it will make it a much tougher team. Until then you could bring Kat Back in to start the 2nd after resting him the last 5 mins of the first. Then pair him with a tougher/huslte in Achiuwa.
    2nd Unit to Start Qtr 2- Kolek/McBride/Dadiet/OG/Towns
    After 5 mins.
    Timeout-
    Brunson/McBride/M.Bridges/Hart/Achiuwa(Hukporti)
    Timeout, closes 2nd qtr.
    Brunson/M.Bridges/Hart/OG/Kat
Knicks have at least 4 talented rotation pieces, 5 if you count Robinson.. Maybe even 6 if McCullar Jr. begins to ball out.
Thibs needs to realize this will be the best approach for his player's health and to help the whole group find themselves a role and can be better prepared for the playoffs.

How on earth is any of this a surprise? Ever since he came to the league KAT has been one of the worst defensive bigs in the league. KATs main problem that nobody seems to talk about is that he is simply incredibly slow footet, i would say he is one of the 5 slowest players in the NBA. He is great on offense, but the Knicks already have a massive defensive liability in the starting 5 with Brunson, playing 2 bottom 10% defenders in the league makes it impossible to even hide one of them and it shows. The Knicks had propably the easiest schedule in the league to start with and are still only 6-6 despite not playing a single good team so far, concerning.

  • @michaelschneider4082

It's call Tib's playing a 7-8 man rotation and only using McBride off the bench!! This won't work he has to have at least a 10-man rotation and utilize the whole bench!! And allow Ariel to play alongside KAT adding more rim protection which in turn will allow for better perimeter protection.

If by game 20 they are still having the same issues then yeah they screwed up. I also wish casual fans would realize the Knicks didn’t let Hartenstein go he walked in free agency to a deal that the Knicks could not offer because of the CBA. The CBA blocked them from doing it and the league ratings are kinda slipping so these new penalties aren’t working.

Why is everyone blaming KAT he is their best offensive player so far and he can’t do everything if you take a deeper dive it’s Jb’s fault bc KAT has to cover the point of attack defender as well as his

There’s no way you are penalizing the Knicks for playing at a slow pace 😂 that’s always been the thibs Knicks game plan man and it has worked so saying that our defensive numbers aren’t that good because we’re playing a slow pace is stupid.

They made the same mistake all the modern teams are making.. because someone scores a lot they think the person is better than someone that plays defense..smh. bucks aint better after getting dame but releasing the best defender in nba.. that was a downgrade.. picking Kat over Randle was dumb!!!.. kat was always a liability on wolves.. he had to be benched in crunch as he couldnt stop an Ant😂

Kat was soo wore out in that last game. Dude had to have had 35+ mins. Possibly 40mins here soon. McBride was awesome last year and if they aren't gonna get another backup C, Towns will go down with injury before the playoffs..

To me that not kat job we didn't bring him in to be a rim protector. He makes up for it on the offense we are just missing mitch I promise you he does not get credit for his defense enough and his offensive rebounding. The knicks next focus is getting a good center. Of a powerfoward that could play defense and also space the floor
