I downloaded WA for the first time. I'm stuck on the prompt to "restore you chat history from iCloud." Is this necessary? I have no history, nor do I have enough storage on my iPhone. If backup is necessary I would need to use something other. Can you help?

I don't understand. WhatsApp asks me for access to my contacts but I should not be giving that. Those contact details were given to my privately and I don't have a right to pass those details on to a third party without going through the entire list asking each person if I may. And yet if I don't give access, "Not now" sends me into a loop and I can't make a call.
