As a child in France, when I said Iplayed Recorder, people laughed at me...in our country many people even among french musicians in our Conservatoires (high schools of music), do not still consider Recorders as "noble" instruments. So it is a shame to practice these instruments...so and when I listen to Lucie Horsch end other recorder players from North Europ, I feel very glad and proud. Thanks a lot for your talents and generosity in your playing
Lucie Horsch est excellente et tous les profs de musique devraient faire écouter ses performances aux élèves, et montrer ce dont elle est capable alors même qu'elle est une jeune fille. Voilà qui pourrait impressionner et inspirer nos jeunes.
And yet, so ironically: in your own country, the French Baroque era established a golden time capsule in time of specific recorder techniques etc, techniques and interpretations that we meticulously try to copy today. Go on and enjoy the noble instrument and don't mind what others have to say.
I don´t know how talented you are but perhaps try help change that a little-also what many people don´t know recorders can be very expensive several hundred Euros but you can also get a violin for 100Euro new (not a Strad of course) but loads of people don´t know that
Thanks for your answer and now I do not care what people think in first I prefer listening them after a performance with the band I usually play "I do not know a recorder could sound like that" or" what I this instrument ?" when they discover the Bass recorder. @@CapeTownrecorder
Yes it is true an alto about 300 euros (pearwood baroque Mollenhauer or Moeck) and above 1200 euros in boxwood or more sounding wood, handmade by an instrument factor.
When it comes to the plucked instrument being played, thus not. Single-strung archlute is far from idiomatic, whereas a theorbo should be the instrument for French Continuo chamber music.
I agree - As great as she is, this guy can flat play!! I am amazed at the dedication and time it takes to become expert on such a unique instrument. Glad that there are people in the world with this kind of talent and work ethic.

That ending is simply amazing. She's one of the few people alive who can play recorder on that level, and yet she's still a sweet human being. Don't ever change, Lucie! Well done in every way.
The Spanish theme of Las Folias has inspired so many composers and musicians but never gets old. Love the pairing of these instruments that give the piece such a fluidity and freshness. Bravo!
As a violist da gamba and a recorder player, I can say this is an excellent adaptaion. Lucie effectively interprets Marais' arpeggios and captures the gamba's articulation styles well. Brava!
Lucie Horsch c'est l'énergie, l'aplomb, la maîtrise, la musicalité, cette manière rare de prendre possession de l'espace, cet art de s'accorder à merveille avec les autres instrumentistes, ne pas faire une seule fausse. A seemingly simple instrument, but in the hands of a master musician capable of great emotional and expressive music making. I hope Lucie Horsch will come to the UK at some time, I'd love to hear her live, she would sound great in the Wigmore Hall!
Just found Lucie's latest album while studying. I love it! Puts such a smile on my face hearing this seemingly simple instrument played so masterfully.
Do it then!! I spent a couple of days in Urbino (central Italy), two summers ago, and I heard a trio of recorder, baroque violin and harpsichord... I fell in love with recorder and I started to play it (first the soprano, and then also the contralto)
You should! The recorder is a wonderful instrument, and now it is easy to get instruction via UA-cam for just about any instrument you can imagine. I’ve been playing on my plastic Hohner Alto for the past 33 years. I wish I’d focused more on my technique in that time, as I’d be much better! There’s never a better time than now to start, though.
I bought and started learning the alto just 2 weeks ago and though I can’t play much yet I can play simple tunes and it’s brought so much joy into my life!
4:11 - 4:12 no she did NOT break her embouchure to smile at the musical experience...! Well, maybe she did, but well deserved. What an awesome video. This gives hope to all of us in this terrible time when music is suffering. Thank you Lucie and Thomas!! MAN!!! That is one complex piece of music! She is a total Genius! He plays well with her.
Such an expressive performance, the way she's able to make that recorder respond with so many different colors is truly amazing
There is something unique to wind instruments, especially the reedless group, where breath itself is the voice...
