the legion always looked better than the rog strix scar...now not anymore hmmm legion has an oled though and the scar a mini led (and i can never decide between the two)
Why would they change the design from the 2023/2024 version????? It's so freaking ugly now. And moving the ports from the back to the sides is a MASSIVE L. The rear ports was a large factor in why I ended up going with my 2024 Pro 7i as I primarily use it 'docked'. My wife loves the new one though. Because I don't want it. 🤣
I also dislike the ports moving to the sides, but it might have something to do with designing a proper cooling system. Let's see how it looks on the inside. I am more concerned about the top facing fully open speaker grills. When you close your notebook, they are just facing upwards, unprotected, all dust and everything is free to get in there. Yikes.
I got the Legion 5i Pro from 2022 and with all the ports at the back, it sits well with by desk set up and cables are barely noticeble. The rear port will kinda push me away from purchasing one, kinda makes the cable management more of a nightmare.
That's your own opinion. Nobody gives a shit. As long as we are getting excellent performance we should not be considering design. Dont buy Lenovo. You are a mac fanboii
@ did you just call the 4090 mobile outdated, lmao. It’s not like them changing their whole design language and removing the rear ports is good. It’s an ugly design, simple as that
I’m definitely not sold on design (the back). Step back over the last 3 years, gone from classy looking to almost basic. I’d switch the back lights off to hide the hexagon thing. Is the power button have a finger print scanner ?
I am 50-50 on that. I honestly do not know if there is a finger print reader, but I will try to find out. It looked like we get a windows hello camera tho!
Damn. Legion design team really dropped the ball this year. I remember that was what I liked about Legion when they first entered the market. Gaming laptops which looked like normal machines, without the Razer-tax.
I mean, I usually agree with your impressions on design. Maybe it looks better in person? It certainly looks very gamer-y though. And not particularly unique, either. More Acer than Alienware.
Maybe they will keep for the non pro which was suposed to be more casual than hardcore form me the change its good as long they keep only for the pro model
I am still happy with my Lenovo Legion 9i Gen 9. It seems they use the Legion 9i chassis for the Legion 7 Pro 2025. What I want are: TB5 port, wifi 7 and GTX 5090.... and less hot CPU :)
Core i9 HX CPU plus 175 watts gpu in a chassis that is barely thicker than a human finger and less than 2.5kg light? How could someone expect thermal issues? :P
Gaben is going to save us from MS screencapping our credit card numbers 🙏 (And yes, ports on the back is one of the reasons my last three laptops have been Legion 5s)
Moving the ports off the rear is a fail. By a quirk of fate, my two primary laptop locations have wall sockets to my right. Any laptop with power inputs on the left, which will leave me with a power cord snaking across the entire table, is a pass. At least with power input on the rear it didn't really matter which side my sockets were on. All that RGB is ridiculous to me, also.
Now they have Oled screen I think this is best gaming laptop out of them all love the way it looks wish they would have made a glacier white one of these with Oled screen and all this fancy lighting
Hi :) do you know if the Legion Pro 7i has a full-metal aluminum chassis (screen panel, keyboard/palmrest panel and bottom panel)? And has it a glass touchpad?
Oh man... The new Legion Pro 7 is a pretty weird one. I was hoping they improve the gen 9 with new core components, but not with a completely new design... The year just started. I'll just wait what the reviews (like Notebookcheck) have to say. The Gigabyte Aorus Master 18 caught my attention as well.
Yes both the new Aorus 16/18 notebooks look pretty interesting. If they price them right they could "democratize" Premium screens in more affordable chassis.
I'm so confused. Does that mean the 9 series is done? I don't want to buy a 5090 7 series only to end up not having all the features I want, and then have a 9 series with all the extras come out on 3 months.
For those that have been waiting to buy a new 50xx laptop and liked the old legion 7 pro, i think the answer is the new hp omen max 16. Its metal, no gamer desing and has back facing connectors. This gen also comes with some extra features that may be good or only marketing... there is little info still
Wonder why they resesigned it. Its the same 175 TDP GPU, and gen8/gen8.01 cooling handled it just fine. Sine there is no way newest Intel/AMD CPUs are as much of a heater as raptor lake was, its hard to see why they needed to change something that worked. Particularly sacrificing ports at the back and understated concervative look at the process, both were quite wellcome. Still, old Lgeion 7 was a no frills performance beast in a well built upgradable chassis, often at over a grand less than its performance competitors. If its more of the same, those 24gb of VRAM just might sell it.
I dont know i like this design change previously was wonderful but to fancy to be a gaming pc this one becomes more classic gsming design but still fancy i hope they keep the previous fancy design for the non pro models which supossed to be more casual and less hardcore(more profesional) and bring back the slim name cause like that its more easy to separate them like that it would be easy to notice which one will be strix competition and the zephyrus competition
man, gotta say i just love your content, always very down to earth opinion. I´m confused about the new lenovo Pro 7i, it looks old and modern at the same time but at least they done something decent different than the alienware´s area 51, they really made look like and old machine i guess.
I really hate how they handled the legion laptops this year -only one laptop shown, where all the other brands gave a pletora of different model to show already. Here we'll have to wait God knows how much time to see the others -the laptop looks horrible let's be real. 0 subtlety, screaming way too much "hey look at me imma gamer" with the back rgb (hope you can disable it at least otherwise you'll look like an idiot outside of home) -the ports, really? I dont care how good their new ventilation is, the ports on the back is the best thing Legion had above the other brands, it's so stupid now -no 16" cheaper option? I hope they announce another legion slim later On the bright side, the screen and keyboard got some improvements, but the design and chassis alone makes me want to skip to next year directly (or buy the older models)
Only the Legion 7i received no redesign; Lenovo updated only its screen, CPU, and GPU. Unlike other Legion gaming laptops, it also did not get a 5MP webcam. Edit: No announcement of the Legion 9i.
I think the 2024 model looks like a tank but the newer one looks like a basic office laptop😂 i'd still prefer 2024 model and ill get it if i catch it in a sale
i have a legion 5 and it has served extremely well all these years, time for an upgrade and i wanted to stick with the brand but now i dunno. gonna wait for reviews and tests. I also use it for work, so i really don't like this hdmi port on the side
I hope they don't redesign the mid range Legion 5 because this looks tacky. The biggest killer is the replaced back ports with useless LEDs. The back ports were the main selling point of Legion.
I still owned my 2021 legion.. and somehow their design keeps making me scratch my head... They're so ahead of their game that now other brands are taking their design. Omen, Helios and all, yet lenovo seems to lose touch with their own design.. I still love the look my white legion 5 2021and still not loving these 2024/25 versions with all exhaust on the back and ports on the sides, it just doesn't feel like a legion no more...

It's always going to be a subjective thing, but having ports at the back you don't use as much as a regular USB-A, like the power connector, HDMI, networking etc. makes for a much cleaner setup, if you ask me!
@@NotebookcheckReviews probably but I don't know way would anyone bought this one when you can buy 4080 2024 model for less than a 2k. Also they didn't created any new "slim" model this year and I really hoped for a new yoga pro 9i or legion 7i with oled and low power intel cpu 😞
One of the main advantages of Legion laptops was the somewhat understated design as far as gaming laptops go.
Yeah, that's a thing of the past ... At least if you keep the RGB on!
the legion always looked better than the rog strix scar...now not anymore hmmm legion has an oled though and the scar a mini led (and i can never decide between the two)
