I'm french, Gainsbourg fan since childhood, and I feel Baxter is the Gainsbourg of the 21th century (with his own identity, not just a copy cat). Between french and british we hate ourselves and we"re so fundamentally different in a lot of ways (brexit, motherfuck*r ?), but we're brothers, and much more closer than what we think, we cant help it. Come on Baxter, carry on the Gainsbourg heritage and we'll be friend again.
I was listening to Baxter a few years ago and the only songs I've heard from Ian were Sex&Drugs and Hit me (when I was a kid) , so I listened to "New boots and panties" and Oh boy ! such a great reccord. I'm a french listener and when I understood the lyrics I thought they were funny and sexy and also poetic. Ian and Baxter reminds me of Gainsbourg in a certain kind of way.
same here! my dad was a child of the 70's so it was kind of compulsory for me to be a second generation ian dury fan. you can definitely hear some of ian dury in Baxter, but id like to think that baxter has his own unique sound that im actually a huge fan of. Keep it up baxter!
It's perfect! I know, I can hear Ian too, and it's hauting and beautiful as well as baxter has his own thing going on regardless of the genetic material ;)
Defo. listened to it twice back to back and knew I knew his voice. Think it was how he pronounced "salamander". Haha. It's like he's fused the best of the eighties and right now. Best thing I've heard in years.
i heard parrot and jarvis cocker's remix of this song a few days ago and was floored by the savage lyrics. like 'WTF is this and who is this guy?' thirty minutes later i'd found the original, started playing it by ear on my violin and begun slurping down his back catalogue -- i'd never heard of him before. this shit is fucked up and glorious. fantastic storytelling, delicious panty-dropping bassline, just the right amount of guitar seasoning. what a lovely little nugget of black-hearted beauty...the best kind of gateway drug.
Yeah, all too often, the "sons of" turn out into a watered down milked out version of their old Men. For Baxter, I've yet to find a note hinting to the Dury the elder.
I cannot get over this tune!!! Rinsing the arse out of it as we speak … sun shining feeling like a G come on tho .. I’m the main cause…. the urban goose ahhhh ha soundtrack to my life naaah❤
First time I've ever listened to Baxter Dury, didn't know what to expect but this video just blew my fucking mind. Definitely the freshest thing I've heard since finding Sleaford Mods, of whom I'm a massive fan. Wack It Up Bruv's nod to the originator lead me here, and I ain't disappointed!! Didn't think I'd find another artist/group quite on their wavelength but this is just brilliant on so many levels!
OMG!!! You're spot on! I discovered Baxter Dury and Sleaford Mods last weekend. Instantly fell in love with both music styles. Going to see the Mods in Glasgow in November. 😁🖤
I bloody love this so much! Can’t stop playing it. I keep breaking out into lyrics mid conversation with my fella, cockney accent and everything! “ so fuck yaaaaa”! Absolute classic ✌️
Or would he? Not original is it. Good music but other than that just lifted his talented fathers sound totally. Suck the blood from the corpse why not.
@@kevinyoung5129 why so negative? Is it really so unusual to you that the son of a great artist would have similar traits and a similar style and that he would want to continue the legacy?
Great tune, great vibe... been looking for a "clean version" to share with my daughter. Well done BBC Radio. "I'm the sausage man. I'm the shadow licker".
My oh my... This is pure genius! The music, the orchestration, the lyrics and the supporting video clip showing a couple composed of a woman and a man, in love with one another, with water reflecting on their faces while they dance... Everything is beautiful. To me, it's a bit like going back to our roots, what makes humankind what it is: everything starts with love between a man and a woman.
Its like a character from a Guy Ritchie film escaped the set and created a music video. In fact, next Guy Ritchie movie has to have a dance interlude, midfight to this song... (all joking aside, this video and song are brilliant)

This is something special. My friend sent me a link to this and I am very glad he did. It's Ian Dury, it's Carl Hyde, it's Shaun Ryder and even some Damon Albarn. I also read in another comment some Serge Gainsbourg comparison. All of these artists are in my DNA. Looks like Baxter just created his own amino acid to bond with them. Gripping!
Im watching Sex and drugs and rock n roll. I thought i check youtube for an interview with Baxter. Surprised to find this class tune. Off to check more Baxter Dury 😎
I've listened to this an unhealthy amount of times
Very tasteful add to your music mix, thats for sure.
same here 🤪 it's addictive! bassbeat or wot?
I meet people everyday that fit one of the descriptions perfectly...sausage man in particular 🤣

The Haunting Bassline carries the lyrics just fine.
Brilliant, Dad would be so proud, love you man
That "Cockney Serge Gainsbourg" was on point in this song most definitely!

"I'm the sausage man" is by far the funniest song lyrics I've ever heard
Shadow licker
Only topped by "I'm Morgan Freeman"
Agreed
I love the shadow licker and the urban goose 😂
"The sausage man, the shadow licker"? Genius!! xxx
I thought 'It's a pleasure' was great. But this... tears of joy.
My boyfriend introduced me to this song and when we hear the sausage man we both laughed 😉!
I am a massive fan of Baxter's dad, but Baxter is total class too. Discovered him just this week. So cool. 😎
Same. Ian’s music was incredible :)

I’m the sausage man, I’m the shadow licker. Genius Sir is what you are. Thank you 👍🎶
Baxter Dury
Doesn’t need a mention of his father any more an absolute artist in his own right , no disrespect
As an early 90's raver, he's got those slo mo moves nailed down.
Craig Newman I’d imagine he done his fair share of raving and Gary’s lol
Words cannot describe how much I love this track and video. Perfect.
Elégant, stylé, toujours très rock... du grand Baxter Dury !
The strings!!! Oh the strings 😍
Beautifully sleazy masterpiece. I'm only gutted I found Baxter later in his career. What a fucking fantastic back catalogue he has too ✊

The use of the strings over that beat is nothing short of genius... 👍

He sounds so much like his Dad! And that's not a bad thing!
"I'm the shadow licka" bruh that KILLED me 😂
It's a fab mad 70's groove, 90's/00's rap with some nice violin classical thrown in, it's utterly glorious :)
