  • Pruning back my “possum purple” passion fruit. I also go into some detail about how I am growing this delicious tropical fruit. If you live in central Florida and have the space, this plant is a winner!

    I didnt know passionfruit could be trained like grapes. It was an idea i came up by myself. Pruning that way would be easier. Arbor style provides shade but the thought of purning all those overlapping vines, not for me. I'd strain my neck 😅
    My plants are still small. Just bought them. Im thinking of doing some in hydroponic. I wonder how it'll go

    Did it work? Did the yellow passion fruit thrive and produce passion fruit ?

    Thanks for the vid. What do the fruits look like when they first fall off? I’ve only seen fruits in markets (in CA) that look like they’re almost entirely hollow already.

      They look like a ripe fruit but no wrinkled. They are purple !

      @@TheHivefl and that’s perfectly edible already? As long as it falls off by itself?

      @@magnaworld they are best once they have wrinkled a bit , but you can definitely eat them when the fall to the ground right away.

      @@TheHivefl ok, we've got a long way to go anyway; our seedlings are just a few ft tall at the moment

    When is the best time of year to cut down the vine?

      Where I am in central Florida, I would say now. Flowers and fruit form on NEW growth , typically in the spring here in Florida with the purple passion fruit. I just hacked mine way back again since this video was made.

    What does "flush" mean at @5:35?

    • @TheHivefl
      @TheHivefl  9 місяців тому

      Really just means a vigorous growth state in which dormant buds are breaking open.

      @@TheHiveflgot it, are you doing anything to “cause” the flush? Or flush meaning just let it grow freely and expand?

      @TheHivefl  9 місяців тому +1

      @@ExitStrategyNYC the pruning will cause the vigorous growth. You have to be savage with this plant.

      @@TheHiveflI’ve got a yard full of it growing over my front area as a shade structure (via kite lines!).
      Not too much fruit though, maybe because I was over fertilizing it. I’m cutting back to a 10-5-20, but that still might be too much to use with every watering…
