    Late to the party but just bought a Type R so I'm enjoying your vids.
    I did this adjustment at the weekend as my pedal was on the floor and I couldn't select 5th at high revs along with the notchy 2-3 change. I couldn't get the movement on the 12mm spanner so bought a brake pipe spanner (£6 at Halfords). With that it was an easy job. I knelt outside the car with the seat right back and leaned in. I went a turn and pedal has come up slightly on the bite point. The 2-3 is still occasionally notchy but the VTEC changes are now sweet so worth the effort.

    Like your determination and diy mentality, I’ve made lots of gaffs along the way. To lengthen a spanner 🔧 just lock an appropriate ring spanner on the end and bingo. Takes a bit of practice but you’ll get the hang of it. 👍

    Alright Lew, thanks for this video. Just had my 1.8 Type-S's clutch replaced as it'd been sat for some time and the pressure plate was sticking. Only issue now is my biting point is practically on the floor so I'm getting some... Erm... 'Notchy' gear changes. Did you ever manage to get this sorted?

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  3 роки тому

      Hi mate, no problem. I actually haven't sorted this but my car has a clutch at home ready to be installed in fact. So I'm gonna asses the situation when the new one's fitted.

    Did you ever get around to doing this? Adjusted the biting point on mine and its so much better now. I used a bit of old timber and wedged it between the peddle and seat to hold it down so I could undo the 12mm nut.

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  3 роки тому

      No I didn't mate. To be honest I'm just gonna leave it now but well done one doing the task yourself 👍🏻

    Did u get this job done in the end, I managed to adjust the pedal, used a breaker bar to hold the clutch pedal down, I've adjusted the push rod half a turn its made a difference however the issue is the pedal height is lower than the brake pedal

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  4 роки тому

      No I've not tackled it since.

    I found completely removing the cruise tube and disconnecting the four electric connections above the pedal assembly allows room for a normal spanner to have sufficient room to undo the 12mm (disconnect negative terminal of battery and leave for a minute)
    Does take some effort depressing the clutch pedal with left hand. I found laying on my back in the footwell worked better and I'm a big lad (seat back, steering wheel up to maximise room and remove the lower dash trim and the outer seat rail cover)
    The Competition Clutch video is helpful.
    Doing this adjustment transforms the clutch / gearchange, it's now smooth and rewarding!
    Spraying some lithium grease on the rod that you're adjusting and the springs lower down also cured the squeaky pedal!

  • @PrivateCustard
    @PrivateCustard 7 років тому

    Yep, my first attempt ended in defeat too! Get someone to sit in the drivers seat and push the pedal fully down. They'll need to be flexible, as their right leg needs to be out of the door, so you can fit in the gap!!
    It's never simple with the FN2. I've just spent two days fitting the Piper catback system. The old exhaust was screwed, so had to be cut off, and the threaded studs on the cat were wrecked, so I had to cut them off, drill through, and fit new nuts and bolts in situ. Many thousands of heat cycles has turned the metal into some massively tough material, which killed about ten brand new drill bits.
    We don't have a two or four post lift, only axle stands and ramps. I'm in absolute agony now!

      I found that turning around the 17mm spanner (that I had used to undo the nut holding the cruse control switch) and placing the 13mm or other end of the spanner between the depressed clutch peddle and the bracket that holds the clutch peddle jams the clutch in the depressed position exposing the 12mm nut you need to undo. You could try other spanners or tools or anything that can resist the pressure from the clutch return spring.
      It is a bitch of a job to do, but so worth not having to have to bury your foot hard into the carpet every time you want to change gear.
      Good luck

      4 hours fitting all the exhaust including the manifold,and also in this time removing the old one too...not so hard.

    Think I'll leave mine to a professional this Tuesday and hoping they can sort it out, painful when she crunches/pops 3rd gear, I imagine it can wear the clutch out earlier too?

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  5 років тому +1

      Yeah it does sound like it's causing some damage. I've still not done this to this day. I've heard polybush engine mounts help aswell.

      Have you ever replaced a Clutch in her?
      I wonder due to the gearbox if Type R's frequent replacements.

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  5 років тому +1

      I haven't no and it's not a known problem. As long as its engaged and disengaged properly I would think the crunching gears won't hurt the clutch

      What year is your FN2? This was a common issue in 2008 models I believe. Was rectified by Honda in later models. A local Honda dealership will know how to fix this for you.

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  7 років тому +1

      SHAWSIE64 it's an 07 so the car wouldn't have had the fix yet. If I can manage it to save money I'd rather do that than pay a dealer.

    it's when u got out the car and said......no.........no.....lol so funny mate. ur vids are entertaining. my clutch in the fn2 is very low also , as is my friends. I hear alot of people saying about 3rd gear issues. (crunching) (popping out of 3rd) (difficult to engage 3rd) my 07 fn2 has 126k on the clock and has never had these 3rd gear issues!!! ...it is a 1 owner from new and still on original clutch.

    • @jordan4541
      @jordan4541 3 роки тому

      @@FNLEW By freeplay I mean the amount you push the clutch down before you feel resistance. You may have like 1 or 2 inches of floppiness/slack before you feel it resist

    • @FNLEW
      @FNLEW  3 роки тому

      @@jordan4541 not really mate. The biting point is low down but the resistance is all the way through.

    Not a easy job! I tried unsuccessfully for over 3 hours and all i got was bad back pain! I took it to my local garage with a photocopy of the article you used off civicinfo. They charged me £35. Job done & 6 months later it seems ok. The clutch has always been heavy & makes the odd clicking noise but but a few squirts of wd40 and its fine!
