  • How I reinstall typical KZ1000 type engines back into the frame. Not how to, but how I do it. Plus, we finally get to check out the sprocket alignment to the custom swing arm and rear wheel!

Back in the 70s there was a customer of ours that got an in crate f1. Then he proceeded to take it apart to nuts and bolts and parts. Cleaned up all welds all everything. Then polished up everything. Then put it all back together. That bike was way beyond a show bike. One could not find one bad part or whatever on it. Just stunning. And yea, he rode it.

When i built my z1000a street bike i used a suzuki gsx 1100 swingarm to fit a wider tyre and it worked out really well

Nice job, you can get the engine mounts at Z1 Enterprises in Tampa. The easiest way I found to install the engine when the bike a apart is to remove the forks, set the engine on the floor on its side and lower the frame over the engine and bolt it up. Bam.

Thanks for the tip! I know about the laying of the frame upon the engine, but there's no way I'd do that to either. Too much risk for damage.

Double-cradle frame, all variants, of the McCandless, Featherbed, originally designed by Rex, Cromie and friends in the mid 30s! But made famous in 1950 TT.

One hell of a set up you came up with, that sure beats the hell out of trying to muscle that in by your self and not scratch that beautiful powder coated frame 😜 and that gourges engine. Glad to see your customer is putting the stock swingarm back on the bike, but man all of the work you put into getting that one to work. Can't wait to see the rest of the bike to get finished, it's looking so fine so far. Are you going to have the wheels refurbished? That back one in that close up shot looked like it could use a little attention, but hey just saying. Thanks for the the video. Looks great and can't wait.

Thanks. Wheels are up to customer. The swing arm saga isn’t over yet. More to come soon.

Lay the motor on the right side and then put the frame on the motor

This motor cost $7 k to build. So you think I should still lay it on its side?

Think they're called cradle frames when they're like that. A Japanese student told me that years ago.

What finish is the powder coating? Gloss or semi gloss? Is there a name of the black I’m looking to try and get closest to factory as possible
    Thanks Danny!

I don’t know. Frankly I hate powder coating. Makes my life more difficult. It’s definitely gloss. I think he said it was a regular black.

Want to sell that swing arm to me ? I am restoring Z1R d1 at the present time. Like the vid, thumbs up. P.S, loyal subscriber too. I'd use that swing arm for sure, I seen how much work you put in. Shock absorbers too ?? Let me know. Cheers from Oz 👍👍

Not mine to sell. I'll pass it along and if the customer is interested, I'll let you know. But I doubt it. Meanwhile, just in case I am wrong, where are you located because if you're in Timbuctoo, or Bum F'k Egypt, it may be impractical to price with that much shipping. Cheers.
