The dev had permission to use the name, but has since decided he wants to use a copyright free name when he went to make the third iteration of the mod (which is more like the fourth iteration of the mod, as there was AM1, then AM2 had three pretty distinctive iterations.

They're literally killed eldritch dungeons, removed cool items (like wands), cool things (like nodes) and they replaced them with silly "caster gloves", the author of thaumcraft 6 left this version unfinished. It's not even fun to make any progress there cause research (at the beginning) is very complicated and resourceful, time consuming and not as rewarding as it should be. Boots of traveling are basically endgame now and there is nothing more
@@warmmage2218 in my opinion, a glove with magical stones is much cooler than a wand, look thanos for example. nodes were cool, but i think this distribution and cleansing of the vis is much easier to understand, like, everything that used to be benefitial still is, the silverwood trees do not have pure nodes but help replenishing vis and destroy flux faster, which is broadly the same as before researching is not resourceful at all, you can literally make a squid farm, kill 1 chicken, get a few greatwood, 3 sugar cane and between going to the mine and coming back, go harvesting those canes to get paper, i filled a shore full of sugar cane and had no problem with paper ever, for doing research in the past, you had to scan everything instead of getting theories out of things and using those to do things i will give you that eldritch artifacts and void in general is not worth it and is severly underdeveloped, but that literally the end game, the only thing that i would complain outside of that is how grindy it sometimes gets with the researchs,but after playing a full playthrough of both thaumcraft 6 and astral sorcery, considering how that is more "grindy" because you literally have to spend days to do something, then i thing giving 10 mins on a table is not that much

This mod reminds me of witchery sooo much with the wand and the rituals and the chalk. There is a new mod called Bewitchment that aims to be a successor to witchery. Idk how good it is though.
I’ve been wondering where are magica has been for a while I got excited when I discovered ars nouveau, which takes inspiration from ars magica but this is a lot closer to the original.

I’ve recently been playing Thaumcraft 6 on 1.12.2 which is how I discovered your channel. Is this mod pretty similar? It looks a lot different, but there were some things that looked similar.
Had my first shot at Mana & Artifice's system recently. Previous attempts I failed to find the tome, but now I'm just starting the real crafting adventure. 😄 Vinteum definitely occurs at about the same rate as iron, some of the iron ores in a world get replaced as vinteum. I recently played a world posted by Hewlett Packard that was advertised as being great for livestock. When I originally played it, it had surface iron, which is awesome, btw, but in Mana & Artifice it has surface vinteum instead. If anyone's curious, try seed CANTBESAVED with and without the mod. It's an awesome seed for the early game, there's even a savannah village nearby, but it's particularly good in Mana & Artifice as that village is better equipped in the mod to help a beginner. 😉

And it is Ars Magica 2. It's just an updated form by the creators of Ars Magica 2. Really, it should've been called Ars Magica 3, and it almost was until the main dev got scared that he doesn't have the rights to the name anymore, so it's now called Mana and Artifice.

my biggest gripe with this mod is its offputting high-res textures clashing with simple poly designs. If there ever was a 16x res resource pack overhaul for this mod I'd be 100000 times more inclined to put it in modpacks
The big question. If the flowers are woldgen only, it's possible to run out of them? (World size limits, server restrictions via world bourder, or just dumb luck). How else can you get flowers? Is there a ritual? Bonemeal next existing ones?

I really, really want to like Mana and Artifice, but it's just so disruptive. The fact that you're *forced* to choose a faction to progress, and therefore are subject to assassin squads just teleporting on top of you out of nowhere for the rest of the game, is just not worth the effects that unlock at the upper tiers. ETA: maybe the progression has been eased on that front, though I'll be somewhat surprised if that's the case. And at least with Thaumcraft's warp, you could take steps to mitigate it; once you can make purifying bath salts and sanity soap, those will protect you from major warp effects pretty much forever. With at least the early versions of M&A there is no such protection. Wherever you are, at any time, with no warning, you could just be suddenly swarmed. If some means of mitigating the attacks is put in, I'll be much more fond of the mod.
Honestly, I'm glad that they redid factions for that exact reason. When I saw them in action at first (many "You Died" screens were involved), I felt like it would be a major low point and was sad that the official developers of AM2 did this, but now they changed it. The only problem involving things spawning right on you are (unless you use other mods) the vanilla entities of the Phantom, Pillager patrols, and (worst of all) Wandering Traders and their Llamas.
@@officialj-rem4756 How foolish. You underestimate the rage generated by the Wandering Trader. Now that I think of it, there is no mob (even modded) that can be more annoying than the Trader.
That means you cast often enough you can now make spells with it changeable customizations on the fly and no longer need to cast it as a specific spell scroll.

Hey, this is still good. Ars Magica was *the* 1.7 magic mod and was the first time Thaumcraft actually struggled to be the number 1 choice. Now, we have AM2's sequel (by the same devs). If you want a TC successor, I would say Arcana (is that what it's called? Can't recall), but I don't know what its status is. Honestly, the last time I checked how Arcana was doing, people were still hoping that 1.16 would've been the ever-elusive cave update.

mana and artifice is made by the same author of ars magica 1 and 2. ars nouveau is a spiritual successor to am2. you can use them together.
