30,000 Silkworms! Short Documentary of Rural Sericulture in Zhenze

From egg incubation on April 28, to silk reeling on June 2nd, this is a short documentary of the full sericulture process in a certain village in the town of Zhenze. Silkworm breeders could also purchase leftover silkworm pupae from the reelers...yes purchase, w/ money, I've always thought they get to take home the pupae for free.
从4月28孵卵，到6月2缫丝，这是今年震泽某村子里养蚕的全过程。随后，可以把蚕蛹从缫丝作坊手里收购回来，但这需要给钱，此前以为蚕蛹是蚕农们自给自足的呢。
When my buddy Ting took us to his place in Zhenze to see waxberry plantation and sericulture last year, we were stunned! Not just me, but also a knowledgeable elder who knows his way w/ farming (grew up hoeing lands, then worked his way into senior management at ABC), who exclaimed his excitement and said he would take his granddaughter here. I for one never had the chance to grow silkworms like many comrades, cuz I left my hometown China Hong Kong when I was young. The experience was eye-opening and impressive, and right there and then I thought I must film this next year. Next year has arrived.
去年挺哥带着我们到震泽看他家里的桑蚕，大开眼界，超级震撼。我十岁离开了老家中国香港，后来在新加坡、美国生活读书，一直没有过养蚕的经历，这种规模的养殖更不用提，完全无法想象。其中一位同行的长者，以前从亲自耕地做到农行高管，算是在农务方面比较博学多闻的了，他也说没见识过，以后还要带孙女来看看呢，所以当时就萌生了拍片的念头。等了一年，终于等到机会了。
Spoke w/ another Zhenze homie about sericulture sometime ago. He said no one does this in his village any more (and villagers don't treat guests to "smoked bean tea" no more). Apparently, the Zhenze-based public company Taihu Snow Silk has a museum that showcases all aspects of sericulture year-round. Does that mean technology has circumvented natural, seasonal limitations? Dunno how long the sericulture cottage industry will last, so I am filming this process as a record.之前跟另一位震泽的朋友聊起蚕桑，他说小时候村里也有，但现在没人干了（也很少以熏豆茶招待客人了）。被誉为北交所“新国货丝绸第一股”的太湖雪就来自震泽，据说其太湖雪桑蚕博物馆常设植桑、养蚕、丝织各步骤的展览，不知道是否意味着工业化、科技化养蚕已经突破传统季节性的约束，也不知道朋友家里这种“不时不丝”的家庭蚕农模式还会流传多久，故而特此拍片记录，留存乡村民间记忆。

Hi, I will be visiting Shanghai in July and would love to see a silk worm farm. Do you know if tours are possible? I have looked online but am yet to find any
Hello, thanks for inquiring! I MIGHT be able to bring you to the farm in the video where my friends cultivate silkworms, but just know that you won't see any silkworms nor mulberries cuz they are only harvested in spring. There is a museum here in Wujiang Dist. (where the farm is located) operated by a major silk worm fabric manufacturer where you can see some of the processes. I am a licensed tour guide BTW, so pls feel free to write me at 278998213@qq.com if you are interested in visiting the aforesaid farm and museum, or other sites and attractions.
