    In this video, we depart out of China Lake and take the "experimental" Darkstar up to 120,000ft.
    As I mentioned during the video, the details that Asobo provides for flying the Darkstar are quite vague - if anyone has any further guidance, please let me know!.
    Please note this video and all its contents / materials, is for entertainment / simulation purposes only.

    you need to click the button behind the stick to the right, below the circular green inop buttons, it looks like 4 boxes, this enables the H2 fuel cell and boosts you to mach 10. it also stops the beeping after enabling the scramjets.

    I absolutely love this aircraft. For a fictional aircraft made for a movie, it's about as good as it gets Getting up to 200,000+ with the sun barely peaking over the horizon is unbelievable. Doing the SR-71 style Dipsey doodle is thoroughly enjoyable too

    I think the Darkstar is the most interesting part of the Top Gun DLC. Sure, it isn’t ‘study level’, but it provides unique challenges and Asobo obviously put some thought into how they were going to implement it. They could easily just made it where you just push the power levers forward and point it at the sky. This requires more thought than that. Landings are interesting too .

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, completely agree Paul. It’s nice that the Darkstar has enough depth, that one can’t simply “brute force” it into the sky. I like the cockpit and I think the aircraft’s capabilities should make for some interesting flights. I haven’t tried landing it yet - I shall look forward to that then haha.

    • @zOMGREI
      @zOMGREI 2 роки тому +1

      It's the dedication to the bit that makes this thing so neat imo, there's just enough detail to keep it interesting while also showing off some of the extremes the sim can handle now. I'm getting more Ace Combat vibes from this thing than KSP, though. You're literally flying one of those objectives from AC that you'd ordinarily need to intercept within 90-120 seconds before it rockets off out of missile range lol.

      The Darkstar is basically a maned version of lockheed skunk works SR-72 prototype that should be flying next year. Plus actual engineers from skunkworks helped design the plane for the movie. Apparently it even fooled the Chinese because they turned one or two spy satellites to try to get a photo of it lmao

      @@saminaneen dude, have you even used this sim for very long? The physics ain’t exactly as good as they could be and certainly not when it comes to the extreme edge cases like this. I don’t need to show you proof, and I have no idea why you are so sceptical of this, have you tried to do this yourself and failed many times perhaps? It was extremely easy to get to 180,000 feet in this by the way, as they clearly didn’t go out of their way to limit the plane more realistically from going that high or improve the sim physics at those kinds of altitudes.
      Anyway, I’m not going out of my way to make a video for someone who is sceptical for no reason and doesn’t know how the sim behaves, and I’m sure there is a video out there already by someone or will be soon you can find, but here’s a Reddit post by someone who gave a screenshot of them doing it. Not saying that’s the rock hard evidence you clearly need as there is a way to get any plane to that height, but again, not going to spend that energy as I’m sure you will find out soon enough anyway.

    Took the Darkstar out to see the hurricane near Mexico. Thought I was like, twenty odd thousand up. Took a closer look and realized I'm in the 200,000's, not 20,000's. Was surprised since I skipped the inverted stage. Didn't have the scramjets on either.

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 роки тому

      Haha, I've had a similar experience at somewhat lower altitudes Jason XD
      The inverted stage isn't really necessary. I simply included it, as it's part of the Asobo tutorial (and I think it's meant to simulate the avoidance of negative g) . The scramjets really help on getting you up to Mach 9, as opposed to higher altitudes; still, a great effort there only using the conventional engines haha!

    • @IntotheBlueSimulations
      @IntotheBlueSimulations  2 роки тому

      Hi Mike,
      It's not really necessary, but I included the roll as it's part of Asobo's tutorial. As you say, the g forces are not particularly high, but I assume they are trying to simulate the avoidance of negative g at any rate (and perhaps just add a little more fun / complexity to the challenge as well). Perhaps hypothetically, the Darkstar's fuel system doesn't like negative g's etc. . .
      but yes, the whole profile could very readily be flown without going inverted.

Got it up to Mach 10.3 and hit the max altitude the sim supports at around 275k feet, it was still showing a positive climb rate but I ran out of altitude. Not that I think scramjets would work that high and the control surfaces definitely wouldn't work up there!.
    I blasted my way across the Pacific and then ran out of fuel somewhere south of the Kamchatka peninsula. Cheated some fuel back in and decided to defect to North Korea but then I had a bit of a mishap coming in to land at Pyongyang airport and left a bit crater in the North Korean countryside.

      Hi TPHG,
      Well the tutorial suggests that it’s done, although it’s certainly not necessary. The logic behind it is based on real-wold limitations; by rolling over and pulling through the dive, the pilot (and the airframe) are subjected to positive g’s as opposed to negative g’s - positive g’s are easier for a human to handle. The same is done in the real world during space launches, with the spacecraft rolling over on its “back” as it makes its “turn”.
      I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best! : )

    Maverick update ? IMHO the only thing worth in this update is that the f18 got updated. That’s it. That’s all you will remember in one month from this update. Imagine there is no carrier you can take off from - imagine there is no carrier in the free world. This update is just a marketing stunt.

      Hi Michael,
      I agree that the scope of the update was somewhat disappointing, with the fact that the carrier isn't even available outside of the challenge (yet), being the biggest disappointment of all. Personally I'm actually not too fussed about the F-18 even - the Darkstar was the real highlight of the update for me.

    For all who wanna start the scramjet easy (in free flight). You just have to reach MACH 3. Get there without silly inverted rolls with my Checklist:
    - Start (Full throttle, gear up)
    - climb (full throttle + afterburners) with 15° pitch at around Mach 0.85-0.96
    - for the afterburners bind a Hotkey in the settings or click the thrustlevers with rightclick while holding leftclick
    - reach 40.000ft altitude
    - nose down to -20° for accelerating to Mach 1.45
    - With Mach 1.45 pull up slightly (max 2G) to +10° and just maintain it
    - Scramjet-transition: while the plane is accelerating activate the fuellcell ((Green) Square right byside the yoke) and the Scramengine (open red cover left of the screen and activate)
    - Keep on holding +10° pitch until the scramengine spools up once you reached Mach 3-3.1.
    ---Enjoy Hypersonicspeed in the stratosphere.
    Approachtip for free flight: You can type the ILS frequency in the small upper display. Type it in, click NAV1 ON before enter. You can use the glideslope and locator manually for easy landing even with synthetic view

      Great pointers Ceejay!
      I included the roll as it's part of Asobo's tutorial (I think it is there to minimise any exposure to negative g), but indeed it certainly isn't necessary.

    • @HELERsx
      @HELERsx 2 роки тому

      @@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you for your Feedback. The inverted roll is for High-G-Turns in military maneuvers to avoid negative G-Forces. But it is absolutly unnecessary for this maneuver and just a little "funpart" . But when you fly point to point you have to align the plane with the GPS line everytime again after a roll what is inefficient and unnecessary. Btw even in the turtorial the plane expirienced much more negativ G-Forces while leveling out at Mach 9+. If you do my maneuver right, you can pitch down with +0.5 to -0.5G what is totally okay and no problem for any pilot or plane.

    160 knots on a scram jet............... wow.................
    Ok so whenever your flying any airplane, from a small airplane to a scramjet your going to focus on your indicated airspeed. Mach isn't reliable when talking about your plane and it's engine's performance. If you want to hit mach 10 do this fly up to 20k at about 350 indicated then make a shallow climb so that your indicated airspeed will keep increasing. Ideally scramjets should never be started under mach 3.5 so climb to 45k on jet engines and accelerate as high as they will go while your at 45k, when you reach the upper limit to what your jet engines can do then turn on the scram jet

      Hi Kevin,
      Thanks for the pointers. This certainly wasn't intended to be any kind of a tutorial, I was simply trying to showcase the Darkstar a little and fly the aircraft based on the information I had at the time (unbeknownst to me, "Objectives" should have been turned on to actually see the mission tips, so all I had to go off was the very limited briefing notes). I agree that 160kts isn't going to cut it on a scram jet, a fuel supply always helps as well haha XD

      Hi Christopher,
      Erm, which manual. . . The aircraft doesn't come with one as far as I am aware?
      By default, the challenge loaded up for me with "Objectives" turned off and there was no mention anywhere from Asobo, that they needed to be turned on. So all I had to go off was the briefing tips (as I mentioned at the start of the video) which were fairly vague. Either way, this video wasn't intended as any sort of a tutorial etc - it was merely to showcase the new aircraft a little.
      Once I figured out that one needs to have objectives turned on, I was able to study the profile more thoroughly and indeed make a fairly decent flight in the Darkstar - crisis averted!

      Hi CB,
      “BSing people”? Hardly fair, but I’m sure you know that. We’re talking about a 1.5% error, from a level off with a 40,000fpm rate of climb. It would almost be the same as going on a video and telling someone they aren’t flying at 3,000ft, when you see 2,955ft on the altimeter. . .
      We were 1,760ft low, but doing well over Mach 3. I think we can safely say we had the energy in hand, to nudge the Darkstar up the rest of the way!
      As I mentioned during the flight, the Darkstar’s supposed altitude limit, at least according to Asobo, is 120,000ft (in actuality you can take the craft much higher than that); much better to level off early and finesse the ship up, than busting straight through the altitude limit - I’m sure you’ll agree?

      Yes, I found it a little hit and miss myself. The carrier implementation was rather disappointing (only available during the challenge) and I agree that an F-14 is really a must, even if it doesn't tie in with the new movie. I am quite enjoying the Darkstar personally though, so that's something.
