I’m an East coast writer of 20 years and I gotta say, CBS had a huge impact to the culture. Much respect.
is that aware?
rip aware
@@giannijeong1111definitely not he does have his skull
Minus the fake CBS in NY lol
@@feralone681msk too. Most big crews never went east. And most east crews never went west. Now days its different with the internet. I grew up bombing with ack and msk. I know katsu, clepto, queball, ajar, blink. Pnw baby seattle graf is the mutt of graff styles.
God, this was so good. Literally kept my attention the whole time. Bigs ups CBS. SK8 will live on forever.

Word_ I keep repeating it for the memories.. man I can't say enough to BLEEK1 for releasing this
I grew up in East Hollywood and these dudes were legendary then and now! I remember walking on Melrose scooping up records and I saw a MEAR piece and in the corner he had wrote MearOneRocks… I bit that from him and used it with my DJ name. Sorry Mear for the bite but thank you for inspiring me. Thank You CBS for inspiring all of us!
This was well done, growing up in So Cal in the 90’s, everyone knew who CBS were.
Much love to the whole crew, I'm honored to be able to represent for a legacy that inspired me to paint as a kid.
⚔️🖤⚔️
Have been inspired by Cbs crew every since I started in 07. Doing graff in the 80's, 90's must of been a whole experience.
I cried from beginning to end, with joy, amazement, and grief. Will watch this again and again. So inspiring!!
Thank You, particularly since today is the 30th anniversary of Skate's death.
@@codysmith5414 🤟🥺😥😥 He was all about the art & the love. I wish I could have met him. Come back SK8. The world still needs you.

just busted a tear this is history graff in its purest form. shout out to the all ogs who paved the way
hell yeah
Wow, brought up a lot of memories. My friends and i were in a Hollywood crew during the same time of CBS, only a few miles from them. We were toys compared to them. But CBS was indeed the crew everyone wanted to be in. One time we were on Hollywood Blvd messing around and we bumped into Skate and he definitely was the real deal. No punk at all. He had heart. But one thing for sure sticks out and it was something one of the writers or graffiti artist said. That we were all just kids who didn't have a father to hug (my father was present but distant) us so we turned our friendships into our surrogate family and did graffiti for the attention we craved from our fathers.
That we were all just kids who didn't have a father to hug (my father was present but distant) us so we turned our friendships into our surrogate family and did graffiti for the attention we craved from our fathers.
I felt that 100%
Props to CBS for what they did on Melrose. I would ditch middle school to walk the alleys in the early ‘90s.
I grew up watching this crew tear shit up around 2004-2011 when I lived in LA…and still, their beat isn’t skipping.Big props!
Knew SK8 from the punk scene way back when . Dude really was larger than life . Great documentary here . Lots of memories come flooding in . Rest in Paradise SK8
Graffiti and hip hop go hand and hand and this generation of MC's don't realize or acknowledge the graffiti artist or the b-boys or even the break dancers they ARE HIP HOP real talk
Preach it brother
I started writing in 1993 in Seattle. CBS had a HUGE influence on me and my friends and of course the entire culture. It was incredible to see these legends in magazines when mags started coming out and when I was an adult and able to make it down to LA to see their work in person. Dope documentary and legendary crew!! Also, HOLY SHIT! David Arquette is a writer?? Like a BIG writer?? WILD!
I was surprised as well to see David Arquette a.k.a. Some One.
I'm from Seattle. What do you write? I started in 96'.
@@MrRusty-fm4gb sorry I'm not going to say what I write online but I knew Chek, Ern, Berst, Adek a little bit, Subs and Size in OFA, Met Ego when he was doing the BAM Crew mural on the bus lines. Evers in 3A. Seed. Jeko and Kaper. A few others.

id like to say thank u for the production, time an effort yall put together to make this doc. hands down one of the best documentary ive seen. i had a friend jus like sk8 so i was touched by this in many ways more than one, he also passed he may not hav been as big as sk8 but the the passion he had the drive the love was jus like him n im glad i had teacher a mentor like sk8 was, ik its not nothing similar but i feel the circumstances ar u no. im also a graff writer i grew up on watchin freight trains with CBS on them but never knowing wher they came from, also growin up watchin LA graffiti documentaries over and over gathering information as much as possible not jus LA graff but also watching style wars. rest in paint to all the fallin but never forgotten.
You are very welcome
Damn, I was like 12 when I heard the news the night after skate passed away. Legendary LA shit, much respect to CBS crew
Young artist from Australia, big love to the whole crew for showing us what really crew love is.

I can't be the only one who paused the video every time I saw graff on the walls... Took me 2.5 hours to watch the entire thing.. Great production. False One DTDiS KSB 1913
I heard a story about Les that he was arrested for male prostitution and beaten up by his wife for sucking cock. Have you ever heard that before? From graffiti writer Casino. I also heard rumor about he is in GtaVi.
Rob was a good dude , I was luckily to meet him 🙏 dope artist, dj, and record promoter. He always kicked knowledge. Respect!great documentary.

Killer documentary. I was influenced just as much from the LA writers when I started out in Boston in the late 80's as I was from writers from NYC
New Bedford writer myself. Looked up to this crew since my finger first hit the can
@@johnboygeranimo6526what did you write ?
The first time I got to chill with Rob One at a house party at USC at this chick Sara's place in 1996. How did I know who he was? Well, his ROB-ONE hat was a clue, I guess. We both ended up next to the turntable talking about music and graff. He was not DJ'ing the party, but still was digging through her collection and found a WHAM! record, and with a huge smile on his face, he excitedly shows it to me. He asked if I knew this band, and i said of course I did, not knowing where he was going with this. "He couldn't like that 'Wake ue up before you go-go' song, could he?" I thought to my self. He unsleeves the wax, flips it around to find the track he wanted to find, puts the record on the turntable, and places the needle at the start of the song "Everything she wants" - He looks over his shoulder at me when the song gets going and just nods to me like I knew the song he was playing was gonna be dope the whole time. You are missed, Rob. Glad I met you while you were here.

Beat non stop was one of their headquarters,, the Melrose allies were rocked constantly,, much respect to this infamous crew and putting it on the map,,,🙏
MEAR and the whole CBS crew’s art was a huge influence on me as a kid🙌🏾
KRASHROCK★MEARROCK_1989!
Dope seeing all this. Was in a crew (GPC) in the early 90s in SLC Utah of all places. My homie came back from a family visit from NY with like 5 issues of Can Control and a VHS of Style Wars. Blew our minds. CBS was proper in all of it. We even saw the Cottonmouth Battlers piece when we went out to bomb trains one night. Wild. Seeing so many of the bombs that I used to zone out on for hours in this was wild. Made me feel like I was somehow a part of this. Thanks for the upload!
Man member the homie showing me this Documentary..this one i was feening to see for the longest and homie said i got u...much love and appreciation for the knowledge he passed to me Hip Hop will forever be embedded in my heart funny how this just one element but soooo Big..
I've been waiting to see this forever, thanks for posting this! Didn't CBS loose another crew member to a train death named Power? I followed CBS from afar in the 90's on the East Coast through zines, the first time I visited LA and the Melorose area I was blown away.
Power is still around.
Should of seen the premier in ptown a theater full of writers that sold beer preimering a graff doc......shit got bombed that night anger saying please dont go out and hit up this theater or the small businesses in the area lol didnt matter what anyone said nothing was safe.......

Just like everyone else, Ive been waiting so long to watch this, Appreciate the upload!
You are welcome
Out-fuckin-standing!! I used to write in the mid-late 90's in SoCal. I saw so many of these pieces firsthand. It's been so long, and I had forgotten about ATLAS and the cat pieces. 😂 I remember the piece SABER did in the LA River. You really had to have seen it in person to comprehend just how big that piece was. Never knew SK8 was the inspiration for that to be so big. Excellent film!!
Good stuff brotha . Thanks for putting this in the archives...
RbL crew Texas
The story of redemption at the end is a huge one. Being a graffiti artist is a weird thing and growing into a life that is more positive for everyone vs. just the culture you are in. Can be a weird thing. The world is a lot bigger and at times better than graffiti. Great documentary
That was Dope ! Been waitin' a minute for this. Blessings from Mexicali Mexico !
In 80s and 90s was the best time to be alive. Grownup in those years was fascinating I remember when hip hop became a thing people break dancing on the corners. Sometimes wish we could all go back to the pay phone days.
As a little toy in a tiny northen city in the UK back then those pics of Hex and Slick n Risky pieces that made it over here were a huge inspiration..I wudda killed for a doc like this back then...
This needs a movie
been waiting for a while to see this! it was amazing! congratulations guys!
Very good Doc. I remember first seeing Skate in 1986 at the Jefferson yard doing this funky lizard character!Great times on Melrose at the Hip-Hop shop. Respect to Skate n Rob One, Anger, Axis, MEAR , etc… great legacy film right here. Y’all Cant be stopped n we will keep Rockin The Nation!!!
I was a 90s kid, but I moved too much to ever settle in to a graffiti scene growing up,though I remember liking them very much! I loved graffiti! The coolest kids ever were the highschoolers that would get on my middle school bus smelling like spray paint. It was a huge flex!Watching this documentary confirms its something I would have absolutely fallen in love with and been lost to. I was very impressionable and always loved the thrill of doing something I was not supposed to be doing. Especially if i thought I could earn the respect of the kids older/bigger/cooler than me.
Im glad i never “took the first hit” so to speak. I would have been hooked.
This is so sick thank you for uploading this. Did CBS ever bring out a book ? Any info would be much appreciated
This doc. Is AMAZING. U got so many legends on here. Risk, Saber and Iris from dilated!? ❤
Great documentary! Have been inspired by CBS crew since I first started getting into graff back in 2005-2007.
That is awesome!
Brings back a lot of memories. Went to school & was friends with "Exist"- cool cat! The mid- 90's were something else.
Great documentary, finally got to see it. Good to see how it all connects to Shapeshifters etc
Yo dont sleep on TKO, LTS, & KOG!!!
Never knew the history but definitely was a fan of CBS crew and loved checking out the Melrose alleys and downtown central murals. Atlas was a fave.
Amazing documentary! Much love for this 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man that SABER piece in the river was legendary!!!! I remember seeing it on my way to freshman year of high school and couldn’t stop talking about it for months!

So great to see a glimpse of the past…I really enjoyed the back story to CBS. From what I saw SK8 had a wicked mindset at a young age to create a family unit and uplift those around him to show them their potential…enabling them to create better lives for themselves. Respect!! 🤘
Iv watched this over 200x love it each time
truly heart felt doc right here, much love!
Thanks for the video. Watched the whole thing. Love from South Florida.

Legendary! I had a Rob One mix tape in the mid 90's and used to see CBS running in graff mags. Those were some of the earliest pieces of inspiration to influence the life path I took. It was mind blowing back then and still is to this day.

Oh shit!’ I knew this was gonna be good as soon as I saw this !! I grew up in LA writing graffiti and always looked up to CBS .
About 30+ minutes was cut from this final version unfortunately for a more mainstream audience. The original cut was more raw and had way more 90s footage.
Sick ass doc! Earned my sub fasho! Mear1 is one of my favorite artists. His Freedom For Humanity piece took major balls to put up. Love that shit!
Thank you
Thanks for uploading ... Respect !

GREAT VIDEO. I FELL IN LOVE WITH GRAFFITI AS A YOUNG KID AND PRACTICED IT FOR A LONG LONG TIME, THEN I JUST STOPPED. I REGRET IT TIL THIS DAY!
