Thanks for this very well made video!
I drove trains for 30 years.
I have retired, and now work on a narrow gauge railway.
So naturally I have just bought this Railmaster!
My kind of luxury watch. Low-key & discreet yet high quality.
My sentiments exactly. I love a high quality, technologically advanced but under stated automatic watch. The only thing I would change is having a display back.
If you’re digging the innovations that Omega is bringing to the market but are concerned that the AT will look a bit dated in a few years, get the Railmaster, it’s as timeless of a design as any comparable Rolex.
Fake aged lume is going to look dated in a few years.
@@mrdisco99 it’s just another color. It works within the context of the design. Modern watches, aren’t going to patina in a way similar to vintage watches and that itself comes off a bit odd over time in its own right.
A neutral white would simply look too stark. That’s something they did use on the denim version and it made sense there- though subjectively, that’s probably my least favorite of the three.
@@mrdisco99 I disagree and think this model is going to grow more sought after as time goes on….It’s a stunner that’s not going to get old…Quite the opposite. People are going to celebrate this model for not being very popular when it came out and then over the years people realized it’s a quiet work of art
@@waterfordrs22- Exactly my thinking, sometimes a lot bone white on a dial comes across sterile and cold and you loose the warmth of tan, orange, and yellows hues of a flickering flame.🔥 I have this watch and it’s one of my favorites!
Spot on it will age pretty well . Brushed case hides the scratches unlike some other Omegas with an ultra shine that show every mark
I recently purchased the grey dial on the bracelet. I have many watches and this is already one of my favourites.Lots of interesting comments about the watch. If your showy ( you know who you are) and want / need people to "notice" your timepiece then this isn't for you. If you want a classic sporty/ dress combination (yes it looks great in a suit to) with a great movement, no date and great symmetry with a slight retro contemporary vibe then look no further. I can see this appreciating more over time and becoming an ageless piece.
Love this one. Understated, not shiny/flashy, flying below the radar. My kind of watch. Fauxtina is fine. Case size is perfect. Value buy. Getting one myself
I love everything about this watch. Even the faux patina works here in my opinion. The thickness/beefiness of the case, everything brushed, twisted lugs the warmth and style of the dial. Despite the watch being really understated it stands out in terms of uniqueness to me.
I have this watch. Quality beyond expectations! The movement is equal to rolex!
This blows away the rolex mate. (I own 2 Rolexes). 15000 Gauss, that absolutely will never have an issue at the airport.. Anyone who knows, and truly loves watches would take this one over a rolex.
This movement surpasses anything rolex piece mills together.
I wouldn't rate Rolex movements that highly!
They are not exactly that great. This movement exceeds Rolex.
Many watch makers make watches far superior than Rolex. They are bought by people who know nothing about watches,as a status symbol.
People are indoctrinated by Rolex marketing.
Bought it this week (Jan 2020) - absolutely love it!!
And the contrast in dark light is marvelous. Rockin' this thing mostly!
Thanks for the review! The dial steals the show for me, however those aggressive indices are also stunning. Definitely a worthy competitor to the Explorer I
The Explorer I is one my 3 favorite Rolexes. Having this Railmaster would not stop me from having the Explorer I as well, but the Railmaster definitely has more "under the hood" and is more watch than the E I, and for less money. If it were an either/or scenario, this Railmaster wins in my book.
That beautiful old lume color is spectacular.
One of the best watch reviews I've seen. I own an Aqua Terra with orange accents, which I love, though have now finally decided, thanks to your thorough and thoughtful analysis, to purchase a Railmaster as a quotidian alternative.
This is perfect, the size, the lume, the non-date, chronometer certified. I kinda wish the 3,6,9 and 12 were applied instead of screen printed. I would definitely pick up a used one these.
This is one of the more desirable offerings in Omega's lineup today. Why? Because it is understated, pays tribute to its heritage, and comes in at a modest size. It reminds me very much of the Railmaster 2403 I had but with modern improvements.
What could possibly make me run out the door tomorrow to buy the new Railmaster? If it was offered in 36mm like they used to. I think it would be incredible to see Omega offer this at 40 and 36mm - Tudor did it (and I now daily wear the BB36), would like to see other companies do the same.
36 or even 38. It's so frustrating for something like me (16.5cm wrist) to have these beautiful watches but I feel it's too big for my wrist :/
The two-color lume on this one looks fantastic. Great review, been looking forward to this one!
Now that's a review -- not an advertisement dressed up as a review in order to sell the watch on somebody's website. Thanks!
This is a watch for Omega purists - I once heard the phrase “those who want a piece of jewelry buy a Rolex, those who appreciate horology buy Omega”. I deal with the public a lot in my job and always connected with people over the watches we wore,
Omega owners always represented that earlier statement to a tee. This Railmaster flies under the radar entirely...
Great review. Cool watch- my kind of watch. No bling, vintage inspired, tool watch. Love the beige lume. I also love that there is no polish, and even the hands are brushed. That's a nice touch. I had 2005 Railmaster and let it go, and I have been waiting for a reissue. I would have prefered 38.5mm case size, but 40mm with short lug to lug and a bracelet that hugs the wrist nicely will do. I wasn't sure about this at first but I'm really warming up to it. Pretty sure I'm going to get it. Can't wait to see it in the store and try it on.
Patrick MacLeod
Did you buy it?
Impressive watch, Omega has step their game up. This is will be a classic watch, black dial, 40 mm case, 20 mm lugs, etc. Wish I could afford one
I think you really understand what this watch is about, it very much draws you in. One thing I don’t quite agree with is the description of the black dial as faded black. It very much depends on the light. The dial treatment is quite special and in strong directional light, at least with mine, the dial is a deep inky black and the brushing is gone to the eye. Where I’m at now it’s quite overcast and that soft light does bring out a kind of charcoal tone along with the brushing. There are other tones that make an appearance, it can appear silver or as a black with a bit of purple.
If you look at this video closely, you’ll see the dial modulate between a very inky black and charcoal grey, that’s not simply a function of the studio lighting, that’s simply a sample of how the dial presents itself.
These are remarkable watches in that they do that while remaining a true tool watch.
You're the first person to explain that it's part of the aqua terra line giving me confidence it may be a robust watch, I hate that the aqua terra line are see through case backs... I wish this had more water resistance also am just glad it's solid case back
150m water resistance is more than you'll ever need unless you're an actual diver, and on the point of open caseback the ATs are still sealed to 150m water resistance. Having the clear caseback doesnt compromise the water resistance.
Great video, thanks! I think replacing the brushed dial with a nice textured/matte black would make this watch spot on for me. And maybe a slightly smaller size like a 38mm. Still in contention for my next watch though!
Brilliant review. Rare to see one so thoroughly
What an excellent detailed discussion into this awesome watch. Waiting for a few more paychecks so I can finally buy it for myself!
I love watches, but couldn't talk continuously and coherently about one for 30 mins. That's a skill that you have and I do not. Engaging throughout. Good job!
Brilliant video! Very enjoyable 30 minutes. I own a 2000's Railmaster and it's a watch I'll never sell, but this new one looks very very nice, and I would love to own one also.
Such an amazing watch, I do wish it had a display caseback though.
That is an absolutely beautiful watch
Excellent review!!! This baby is in my sights,
The singular of indices is INDEX!
Very good in-depth review of the new Railmaster. The all brush finish makes it a nice tool watch. Still not too sure about it. I think I'll stick with my beautiful blue Master Co-Axial Aqua Terra.
always loved the old Railmaster , like this one as well but the prices are getting up there for Omegas.
If you look up "AWS Sunflower" you'll see a visual warning system used on many UK trains - I think it strongly resembles this Railmaster's dial. Perhaps that was intentional.
The only Omega i'd really consider purchasing. Nice review.
would run out and buy it if it was 36-38mm, I love the vintage look of it
Great little vid that - enjoyed the education.
I like this watch too. With their anti-magnetic movements, they could have easily added a date feature. I think that would have significantly increased the number sold, I'd have one. Also, the four arabics look like an afterthought to me. I don't know what they could have done differently. Thanks for the review.
Great review and love the watch. It's my favourite from Basel 2017
I love those cream colored indexes, or "faux patina".
Great review. I’m actually bought one because of you.❤
Nicely done review(almost too in depth). This is one that has really grown on me, wasn't over keen when announced but I think it really looks special now, love that dial! Had I not liked my ST I would have been seriously considering this.
Great looking watch, i love my Omega! :) Nice review on this watch too
Just bought one and I LOVE it. Thanks for this incredible video. You helped me make my decision. OMEGA should send you a check ;)
Awesome, thank you!
I’ve been admiring and thinking about this watch for a few years and just got a great deal on one, it was worth the wait!
good review but I'm even more impressed by how a video talking about a normal looking watch can be half an hour long
JY C That's what you call an in-depth review. I appreciate videos like this.
Haha Thanks! There's a lot of ground to cover with this one.
Should have had a display back on the Railmaster and a solid caseback on the Seamaster
All movements should be visible. Such a weird thing to not see the beautiful movement.
Great review! I just ordered my rail master!
"Omega-Seamaster-Aqua-Terra-Railmaster-Co-Axial-Master-Chronometer"!
That's a mouth full! 😉 I want this watch. But it's too similar to my Rolex OP as a sports watch. But maybe one day...
I wonder whether Omega should divide the Seamaster and Aqua Terra line. There are too much Seamsters: Professional Diver 300, Professional 300, Planet Ocean (which could be a line by itself btw!), Aqua Terra - have I forgot one? 😉
Totally agree. The line is too complex and diversified.
I think it's significantly different than the OP. The OP is dressier with the polished parts and white lume. This being all brushed with beige lume makes it much more casual and warmer. More like the Tudor Ranger. I think having both the OP and RM would be a great combo. Of course it all comes down to personal taste.
How about going with the black dial on leather strap so it's different from the OP?
Railmaster should be absorbed in speedmaster.
I really enjoy your watch reviews, you are the best!
Someone needs to do a Railmaster vs Oyster Perpetual video.
I think the competitor of the Railmaster is rather the Rolex Milgauss, what do you think ?
Still my only daily rocker despite owning the explorer etc.
Great review mate! Exactly what I was looking for
could you please do a review of Longines railroad?
like the look of it very much~
Great video and article. Love this watch.
The dial is so flat, that the dome feels empty. If they changed the dial and used applied markers and a clasp with micro-adjustment, this would shit on the OP. Yeah, you heard me.
I would like a little bit of crown guards.
Great video review of a fantastic watch
Excellent review! Very thorough
Very solid review, nice job!
When will it be on the Omega site?
Nice watch
I thought this reference number was just a Seamaster Railmaster …no AT (only an AT case)??
This, or the new JLC Master Control Date with sector dial?
The omega has the COSC and METAS certified movement going for it; if it had some polished finishes and applied markers for visibility, it'd be perfect
Great review!
Interesting review. What’s your opinion about the grey option? Is well finished?
Is this watch a comfortable fit? How many links did you remove?
Does the bracelet have the capacity for micro adjusting?
No it doesn't.
Does this wear large? I have small flat 6inch wrist
Ooo I didn't know that, the rail master rivals the miliguass
Uzeyr Hassan 1,000 gauss vs 15,000? In that aspect at least, seems pretty clear that the Railmaster blows the Milgauss out of the water
I'm not too fond of the dial color. I looks like a faux wood paneling and I think it cheapens the watch.
Anyone know the weight of the watch ? Does it feel heavy on the wrist ?
Anyone know if this Railmaster bracelet will fit a regular Speedmaster Pro?
I like my lume all one color personally.
subtle elegance!
I love it
bluemystic7501 .... I wuv it
Is there a release date yet?
When is it available?
P K It should be available this Fall.
For when you just can't decide between a Seamaster, a Railmaster, and an Aqua Terra.
Caliber 8806? Or 8800...?
How is this watch holding up as an investment? Will it hold it´s price?
I like where this watch is going, but it seems to have a bit of identity crisis. Textured dial, crosshair, sector seconds track, lollipop seconds hand. Pumping a laundry list of vintage-esque traits into a watch doesn't necessarily make for an attractive timepiece. Pick two from the list and I'd like it better, I think. Maybe they will refine the design in the future.
Nice watch though
Crown is similar to IWC pilot and radiomir
what's the intro song?
The watch looks gorgeous, but I'm just wondering, are you showing the watch with two different dials? Sometimes the dial looks matte black then sometimes it looks like brushed blue. Is it the same dial in different lighting?
Same dial. It changes dramatically depending on the light.
I thought I didn't like the polished center links on the AT until I saw this. All brushed bracelet looks much worse yuck 🤮
How much it costs? I suppose a lot
5100
Nice one
No micro-adjustment on the clasp. Again.
And no screw down crown. W T F !!!
I stand correct, the Railmaster does have a screw down crown indeed for sure.
The unit we reviewed did not have a screw down crown.
Omega 556
I'm just broke college kid dreaming to have this one asap. Damn it!
I have been waiting quite a while to see this one at my AD. I was told November but now it has been put back to January 2018. No micro adjust, again, is a deal breaker for me. What's wrong with Omega? I love the watch so it would have to be on a strap. By the way, you spoke for 30 minutes and never even mentioned the water resistance. Did you run out of time?
The water resistance appears on the spec card at 28 seconds ua-cam.com/video/HxnxshwIBf0/v-deo.html
wornandwound . It also appears on the back of the watch at 29.04. I was just surprised you never mentioned it when going through the spec. I enjoyed the review and I think there must be a delay in the production of this model. Really looking forward to viewing and trying this one on.
i was told they were changing the factory, thats why we have to wait.
I liked the mid-2000’s Railmaster. This one, not so much. I'm getting really tired of the faux-vintage lume trend on so many new watches. Don't like the new bracelet either, it's too plain, but I do like the new case back though.
I’d like to see a crown guard on this even though not historically accurate to the original
I am still waiting for Snailmaster, omega.
Nice homage to the Corgeut
Nice low key quality watch.
However I dont like flat saphires, they look cheap.
It looks like a Grand Seiko
Nice watch but if you get it you'll always stop by the window of Rolex boutique and wish you got an Explorer 1.
