When a song translates well from its original rock form to an acoustic setting, you know it's good. Neal Schon is not given enough props for his playing. Would have been interesting to see Journey in their heyday doing an Unplugged session of their hits.
Oh my goodness! Arnel Pineda has now put his "Own Touch," on this Iconic Journey Song, "Stay Awhile," initially Sung and made famous by Former Best Frontman, Steve Perry. I admire that he no longer tries to exactly mimmick Steve's Voice, but is now singing to his content. His Voice is Beautiful and passionate; and YES, He's singing for himself now and NOT pretending to be a "Perfect Copy" of Steve Perry. Arnel Pineda loves, adores and looks up to Steve Perry. I'm sure he feels so Privileged and Grateful that he's been part of Journey, for at least fifteen years now. I've said this before, but I'm repeating my comments for emphasis; Steve Perry and Arnel share at least, two special Qualities. The First, is that they are "Both" Multi-Talented in reference to their Beautiful Voices. The Second, is that they are "Both" wholeheartedly, and undeniably "HUMBLE." I've NEVER heard of Two "Seperate" Journey Frontmen, whom rarely give Credit to themselves. Rather, they seem to put their "GIFTS" to better use by sharing their Voices before Thousands, upon Thousands of fans. Their "TRUE JOY" comes, when they Sing on a Stage, or Record an Album. Especially as they watch their Audiences being moved by the Music, Singing, Dancing and Smiling. This is their true "Accolades!" Being Humble, One certainly reaps internal Happiness. One last thought: I honestly, do NOT believe it's mere 'Coincidence,' that the "Mothers" of Steve Perry and Arnel Pineda, BOTH, played a 'major role' in nourishing, encouraging and supporting their beloved Sons; two "Specially Gifted Singers" to become the Amazing Singers they ate today. Thank you Both, for Kindly and Patiently, sharing your "Lives and Voices, with the World. I Thank also, the Band, Journey for Music that touched and imprinted on everyone. Too bad this guy has to walk in the shadow of the beloved singer Mr Perry. Of course he's not Steve but he is really good. Just a different nasal tone. He is extraordinary in his own right. Just not Steve, no one will ever be. Not Arnel's fault.
He used to be.. The voice is one of those things that goes quickly as we age. And with as much as Perry beat on his all those years, the dudes lucky he can talk. He did come out and sing a bit last year. Google Perry 2014 and you will wish you hadn't..
I've watched all of the EEL's performances with Steve Perry....10 million views the day they hit youtube and millions of views since. The majority of commenters are enchanted by them. The negative comments were mainly coming from Filipinos. Arnel is now lip syncing and they have a new guy behind him on keyboard singing the high notes for him. He holds out the mic to the audience for sing alongs more than he sings. The band is playing louder and very long instrumental solos to cover the problem and to give him time to run for his inhaler....lol. Pineda will not have the talent or showmanship that SP now has when he is the same age. He lost his bowels when he saw Perry command the stage with the eels and immediately sent out a PUSSY tweet offering SP back his place in the band....not Arnel's to give. He's just a tribute band employee. Steve made it.
I honestly can't 'hate' on this performance with Amel. His singing dialect shows mega improvement which was my biggest cringe about listening to him sing at times. BRAVO, Amel and Journey!
