Likely final purpose: a ventilation shaft (wide diameter lowers air resistance and required air velocity for given volume), and probably a downcast shaft (slab does not seem large enough for fan infrastructure). The concrete piles and excavation shown are to overcome the first 50m of soft weathered ground you find everywhere in QLD (they also provide serious anchorage for vent control devices or blast doors later). Once this preliminary excavation is completed, and the collar is secureed a raisebore can be set up over the hole to complete the shaft to full depth. Normally this type of job would use a small excavator in the hole and a skip to hoist spoils, traditional ground support (shortcrete, bolts & mesh, cablebolts) can then be install by hand as the shaft progressively deepens (ie fast, cheap, and easy). However the OH&S in QLD prevents this kind of approach, so "no-entry" methods (as seen in the video) are used instead.
Yes aussie OH & S is usually great but we still had fatalities in tunnel projects . That safety fence around the hole wouldnt pass muster with us since we had a site event where an 85 year old lady with dementia pushed her way through a security fence and started walking past open excavation pits , D10 Dozers , excavators and haul trucks before we grabbed her and escorted her back to the gate. . .
I've been watching tons of videos on a huge variety of topics, machinery, General things, and this is by far one of the most impressive ones I've seen in a long thine. Great job

great footage combined with a bumpin track. please can you tell mw ehat the remix is? Ive foind a few versions of the original but not this one. amazing
You guys are way more careful drilling than we are in America. Not sure if it's the soil difference or what but drillers here punch 3-5 meter diameter holes 30 meters deep and just fill them with water and soda ash to hold the shape.
I'm not in the trade, but I was wondering the same thing myself - I've seen things along the lines of displacement drilling, filling the cavity with "mud" to hold the wall until the entire bore is filled with mud - then they build a slip wall or drop in some rebar and a form and pour from the top... That soil in QLD must be really really soft or something, since they reinforced that entire wall with the rebar columns before even starting to dig.
Notice the Drill bit is constantly changed, they are just drilling pilot holes over and over they seem to hit a snag notice they stop using the large drill bit and use smaller ones to clean up the in side wall it would have been easier to use large bit to bottom, they seem to hit a few hard sections this is why they drill small to start and slowly step up size, also when ground water is filling up a drill hole this can cause collapses so fluid is mixed to increase the thickness of water making cuttings return easier and creating a stable wall inside drill hole, if no water is encountered you can drill if ground is stable like the video Drilling Clay and weathered rock (aged rock) if there were sand and gravel layers then they would require mud to stabilise the hole
This is called bored piers with soldier piles as a retention, the spoil is collected at the toe with the smaller diameter bucket (see the moxy taking spoil away), once depth is reached the remaining spoil is fed by an excavator in a bin with a crane till B.E.L is reached.
Why only so small? You know if you go big enugth you can have the Entire Equipment in the hole too and go basicaly Indefinetly deep right? (That is how it works correct?
They are there to make sure nothing goes wrong and to give information the the operator of the drill.. but yes there are allot of them just standing around.
Having been on many construction sites, when there's something interesting happening everyone wants to check it out, I'd guess every person on the site looks in every time they pass by, I know I would.
NightshadeGaming I think he is saying that because they are putting there weight on that fence directly next to a giant hole and if the fence failed they would fall

Nobody Jimmy Hoffa was the head of the Teamsters union in the US. He disappeared in the 70s and has never been found. Rumors and speculation put him in many places. Mythbusters even scanned a football field with an ultrasound machine to find him.
Is this for a nuclear missile silo? And wouldn't it be easier to bring a giant excavator and dig a giant hole and then build a big concrete pipe and then fill the hole outside the pipe?
The music makes me feel like I just walked into H&M to look at some cheap pants, and some hipster asshole comes up to me and asks if I need help, I tell him Im looking for a pair of slim fit pants, and he hands me a pair of pants that are two sizes up, and I leave the store hating him because now I feel like I'm too fat
Clamshell telescopic excavator on top and small excavator inside the shaft may be a cheaper solution, I guess, unless additional technical information on the shaft's features are provided ...
i could use twelve of these spaced evenly, set up just inside the perimeter of a large circle.... but then i would have to plum all of them to be exactly parallel with each other, compensating for the curvature of the earth and everything else.....
Yeah go on Mathew. If that's all you need to build space tether then these guys can do it for you I'm sure. Call Elon I'm sure he will be happy to pay for it once he gets the hyperloop built.
the tether so to speak, is not really there.. the beams emitted, carrying a compressed magnetic flux, are for the purpose of keeping the platform centered and steady as it travels up or down between the parallel beams. the big holes are to house the beam emitters... if it functions as i have desired to design it, it will be usable at any latitude and not have to be restricted to the equator.

hahahah fuck yeahh!!!!
made me smile
Lmao
😅👌
Functional machines are beautiful. Enjoyed it. Thank you from Japan.
You can tell its and Australian site, the immaculate attention to OH&S. Makes me proud.
How deep does the shaft go?
So it grinds a hole in the ground but how is it removing the ground soil from within the hole its creating?
that smaller round device seems to be the trick - you see it go down and come up just as the front end loader comes by to carry the soil away 😊

Imagine the torque that thing puts out!
TheOneWhoMightBe loaaads
How much torque does it puts out?? ALL !
Is it collecting sand/material in the white pile shaft on the drill.....???
Then the saw binds up in the hole and the crane starts flying around in circles.
whats taking the material out of the hole
Michael Blackledge when you see them change to the smaller size head and move around the hole. It has a bottom on it which picks the dirt up. And ooens when moved awy from the hole.
...a bailer bucket
Need this at Oak Island!
Saw this comment coming.
They will need a big enough cason, otherwise the hole will collapse from the water.
I was just thinking the same thing
Why do you keep putting this same crap for background noise?
For what purpose
Frank Ziola looks to be a windmill possibly?
Wind turbine. I think you are correct.
Description says: Keller drilling out a large diameter shaft at a mine in Queensland, Australia
Probably gonna put in a cage hoist to transport men and materials to the underground mine below
I'm not too sure
How many days for main hole?
How did all the spoil come up and get hauled off?
That is the very straight, very round, very expensive hole
VERY EXPENSIVE.
great footage combined with a bumpin track. please can you tell mw ehat the remix is? Ive foind a few versions of the original but not this one. amazing
handlebaraddict did you find the track?
I think it is "World lift" by PNFA

The sounds kinda sounds like Dub Techno genre
What is the boring machine?

So how deep is it?
I don't get it, what does this hole do??
Waiting to be filled up...
Guy Fawkes if you were to read the description you would know
Those things half to breath some way. Man keeps building over the top of them.
Amazing Working
How does the material leave the hole?
Out the top.
How is the dirt removed
yankeedoodlesoldier shovel
Good job👍
awesome! Thanks
How deep was it?
9001"
All the way to the bottom
A metre

How many months in total, to complete the project?, The time lapse was good.
So, what goes in the hole??
Yo mama.
(not really. I just thought that was a funny thing to say, I'm not sure what this was used for)

anyone know how deep they drilled this?
76m
Is it available in India rental basis???
That's a nice shaft!!!
Thank you.
Seems like a lot of work when you could just dig a trench since the depth doesn't look very deep. What was the purpose of this hole?
289pinto it's for a mine if I remember right it says so in the description which apparently most people don't look at any more
What was the song ?
All this just to dig a hole in the ground. Mankind and determination at it's best...
Wow. You have drilled a big hole in the ground. Why?
Because they're drawfs
what was this hole for?
Dedra Kuhn to put a nerd in it
Cool technique, but it seems to have some rather severe limitations on how deep and fast the drill can go.
That doesn't really matter as long as it can do the jobs it's hired to do cheaper, better or faster than other equipment.
Agreed I see very many limitations with this...
First of all the digging material seems to be in the white pole and not contiusly emptied..
This is called bored piers with soldier piles as a retention, the spoil is collected at the toe with the smaller diameter bucket (see the moxy taking spoil away), once depth is reached the remaining spoil is fed by an excavator in a bin with a crane till B.E.L is reached.
4 what reason?
bot why they made this biggest hole? why??????
Stupid Engineer if you were to read the description you would know what it's for
Finally, time to take a dump.
Really would like some explanation of where the removed material goes?
They dig another hole to put it in.
ধন্যবাদ আপনার কমেন্টটির জন্য !

That's a lot of "supervisor's".
Wait. Wheres all the dirt going?
??? What Music is playing there ???
Are they making a fallout shelter or are they making a underground base?
Aidan Cummings its Australia so no and no. We don't need that shit down here
Where's all the dirt going?
would love to see this used, couldnt find a vid that shows anything like this working
Did they find Jimmy Hoffa?

Very nice
Those people from down under know a thing about continuing down under
Maybe they should do this on Oak Island so they can get the dig over with...
Old mate at 2:14 wanted a better look 😁
Dale dug a hole....
Seriously, cool stuff though.
It never rains in Australia.
Amazing what snow fence can do lol

I'm going to dig me a hole, gona put a nerd in it
why?
Hi sir i am mechanical engineer how can apply job
This was one unusual music video. Very educatianal tho.
Topical construction. 1 guy working while 10 watch
Given this is safety critical, many tasks are done under supervision of many -- they're ALL doing work. You don't pay someone to do nothing.
It's call American unions
It's cheaper to pay those supervisors to make sure nothing goes wrong than allowing something to go wrong.
Spoken like a true union steward.
